Chinese fakeaway-difference in price

We’re pretty skint after Christmas, as I’m sure many are. Wanted to do a Chinese takeaway for Dd tomorrow evening and games for mini New Year’s Eve before bed. She’s never had a Chinese before and keeps mentioning it (think she saw on tv)
Would there really be a massive difference in me making it all at home-cost wise?
Spring rolls & prawn crackers and chicken chow mein for 3?

Prawn crackers are discs that go in a fryer - cheap as chips and last ages!
spring rolls are filo pastry filling and baked in the oven - I do chicken spring onion and soy sauce - easy and cheap
chicken curry - very similar to chicken stew with a few spices and a spoon of brown sugar.

Sweet and Sour sauce is vinegar/ketchup and sugar mixed with water or pineapple juice and corn flour. Easy to make!

Why is everyone directing you to the freezer section? Very odd and not the same as freshly cooked.

@Almostbacktoschool

I would get one from Tesco. (Or Asda or Morrisons.) You can get one for about £8 (for 2.) You can then get some vegetable spring rolls to pack it out - I think Iceland do a pack of 30 for about £4. Or Asda do a pack of 12-15 for about £2.50. Also, you can get a pot of frozen chow mein/soft noodles in Iceland for about a pound.

Me and DH had a Chinese takeaway with our DD and her fiancé 3 months ago, and it was nearly £50 for 4. I nearly passed out. Was £37 ish last time we had it (around 6 months before that,) and £32 in summer of 2021. Pre pandemic it was about £26- 27 for the 4 of us.

Fuck knows why it has gone up so much. Piss take. Also the last time we will get one from a takeaway - ever... The supermarket prices were always not much cheaper really, (was £7-8 for 2 (me and DH,) and the Chinese takeaway for me and DH was about £13...) but now the supermarket ones are virtually a third of the price of the Chinese takeaways. As I say, we will never get a takeaway again now.

@strivingtosucceed She’s only 4, but keeps talking about a Chinese banquet 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

Thanks everyone, I think I’ll definitely buy the prawn crackers, spring rolls & dip and make the main. Trying to compare the two, it looks around a saving-ish of around £11, it’s not huge 🤔

She's pretty young so I'd say your plan will work nicely.

Or learn to cook your favorites?

Because it's a 'Chinese banquet' for a 4 year old, done on a budget, and there are only so many hours in a day.

I'd buy the meal in a bag from Tesco or Asda. Get a few sides. Bull it up with rice and should be less than £10.

I think I would just get the takeaway and look for money off (Uber eats usually offers discounts) supermarket stuff never tastes as good

Uber eats and Just Eat add a premium on first so any savings usually take it to the same price as going direct to the takeaway

Asda sell the best crispy seaweed, it's the closest to takeaway I have tasted. What about crispy duck & pancakes, Farmfoods too 3 for £10, you just need to buy spring onion & cucumber & maybe extra sauce if you like a lot.
