Is now code for' the op had their srses hsnded to them and couldn't cope'?
There are SO MANY threads being deleted. I've just clicked on 'threads I'm on' and three have been deleted.

OP posts:

meh. The site is going to hell in a handcart.

SaintLoy · 31/12/2022 15:47

It's the Universe's way of telling you to 'get a life'.

HRTQueen · 31/12/2022 15:49

So what if they do ask for it to be taken down it often turn very nasty and then the bitchy gloating starts

or don’t return as this seems to upset some

there are plenty of other threads

worraliberty · 31/12/2022 15:51

YANBU, it's getting worse and worse.

I mean the trolls are bad enough, there are so many of them and obvious journalists, leading to tonnes of deletions.

But MNHQ are making that much worse, adding to it by deleting non troll threads just because the OP wants it gone.

There's one fairly prolific poster who's been on MN forever, and she keeps starting threads and having them deleted when she doesn't like the replies, like she's got HQ in the palm of her hand.

Why don't they just tell her to stop starting threads instead of wasting everyone's time?

Brefugee · 31/12/2022 16:07

i really wish they would employ a little more thought in moderating decisions.
And i really wish more people would think about which board they're posting in.

Come to AIBU - it's robust so think about putting it in relationships or whatever. And if it's "for traffic"? well, the way to drive the other boards is to post in them. Post on other people's threads and liven up the other boards so AIBU doesn't get all the traffic.

And i really think closing threads to new posts (except possibly the OP if they come back with an update) would really help. Very much indeed.

I honestly think if you’re that aggrieved by thread deletions you’re over invested and need to put the internet down for a while. The OP owes you nothing.

I agree x

RudsyFarmer · 31/12/2022 16:18

Thank you mumsnet for allowing people to change their minds after posting their problems publicly. Some people honestly think they are merely venting to a select number of people so give away far too much information - often demanded for by others on the threads. Then once that thread gets a thousand replies - shit their pants at what they’ve disclosed.

Peoples metal health is bad enough at the moment without adding this worry into the mix. I think there is widespread bullying on this site across many threads. I think people often post something in good faith to then have their words twisted and picked apart and the finale is often it being splashed across an online tabloid paper.

Stop picking over the carcasses of peoples lives.

BackBeatTheWord · 31/12/2022 16:19

Meh. I don't think responders should be so invested in a thread that it bothers them if it's deleted. Even if the OP is being unreasonable we don't need 15 pages of people repetively insulting them!

SaintLoy · 31/12/2022 16:21

@RudsyFarmer - my metal health is copper-bottomed, I am glad to say.

GreatOak · 31/12/2022 16:36

I once started a thread about an extremely sensitive family situation (not in AIBU), and received some very helpful & supportive suggestions from other MNers. I’d never had cause to delete something I’ve posted before, so I didn’t know that I couldn’t delete it myself. Given that the few other things I had posted were quite specific, I asked MN to take down the thread, and thankfully they did. Knowing this now, I would think very carefully before starting a thread like that again.

I agree with PPs that the section a thread is posted in is relevant. AIBU seems a haven for trolls. IMO 75% of those threads belong in other sections on the site, all of which seem far better for providing genuine advice and support.

A thread I was following this morning about Jack Monroe has now disappeared. I went out shopping and then came back to find it vanished

liveforsummer · 01/01/2023 13:08

One this morning is simply 'at the request of the author' in other words didn't like the responses. Agree it's annoying when people have gone to the effort to reply

Ugh.. the one about husband taking photos of women in the gym is down. This is ridiculous.

I'm still waiting for "MNHQ has commented on this thread" to appear next to the thread title :-)
