DH poured water from his tooth mug into the kettle.

Just this. I saw him do it. He cleans his teeth in the kitchen (arggh). He had done his teeth and still had some water in his tooth mug, so as not to waste it, he took the lid off the kettle and poured the water in. That would have been in my fucking cup of tea in the morning if I had not seen it happen (or our visitors first coffee). I emptied and washed the kettle and told him that it was the most disgusting thing I had seen for a long time. I said I was going to get a second kettle purely for my use. He promised never to do it again, but what worries me, is what other horrible things he secretly get up to.

He also uses a flannel?! He needs to get in the bin, no saving him.

@AriettyHomily I agree Arietty, he says bending hurts his back, so he has this whole tooth cleaning, flannel for face washing in the kitchen. I make him keep them all in a cupboard, but I can't say I like it.

He really needs to stop attending to his personal hygiene in the kitchen. I would be putting my foot down over this.

C1N1C · 28/12/2022 19:40

Has he come from a poor background? Educate him.

The volume of a mug is 350 ml. He's probably pouring 'back' a third, = 100 ml. Doubled assuming he brushes twice a day. In a year that's 365×0.2 L = 73 L. Cost of 100 L is around £1.50... so for all of his scrimping, he's saved about £1 in a year.

I'd be mortified by what he's doing too so 100% with you here.

ExtraOnions · 28/12/2022 19:30

It was just a mug if water … out of the tap.. that he drank some out of, and what was left he poured into the kettle rather than pouring it away? I’m struggling to see the problem.

You do know that boiling the water would kill off any mythical germs …

No wonder the climate is in a mess

backwash is the word you are failing to see....every time you drink some of it touches your mouth/lips and washes back into the cup.

Kids are far the worst for it, adults less so, but I still wouldn't want someones used water in my kettle.

Merlott · 28/12/2022 19:45

Wtf it just gets worse and worse! Flannels are disgusting!

Can you get the bathroom sink re hung so at least he's in the correct room for his disgusting routines?

And fgs how much do you pay for water that he thinks any of this is saving any noticable amount of money?!

Dishwashers can use very little water depending on what model and what cycle so HIBU on that as well!

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 28/12/2022 19:59

@Bakeacaketoday73 I think this idea of backwash is what was worrying me
(alongside the unwashed mug).

For DH it is a plastic mug that he uses to rinse his mouth when cleaning his teeth. I would hate to tell you any further details.

Do dentures go in this cup by any chance?

FourEyesGood · 28/12/2022 20:46

Even ignoring all of the other stuff, why are you just clicking the kettle on first thing in the morning? Empty the kettle of its old water, then draw fresh water for your tea. It’s much nicer - and then you don’t have to worry about where the water came from.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 28/12/2022 20:51

I often brush my teeth in the kitchen. Genuinely don't see what's wrong with that. I dinneyr have a tooth mug though and if I did, I wouldn't empty the contents into the kettle

SD1978 · 28/12/2022 21:10

I brush my teeth in the kitchen- sink is higher and I prefer it, but I'd never try to reuse the swirling water. Yup- that's gross. Backwash with your morning tea......

LicoricePizza · 28/12/2022 21:18

Is it a mug he puts his false teeth in to clean & then poured the contents into the kettle??
Eeuuwww

KateMcCallister · 28/12/2022 21:31

DH is 6'4 and manages the bathroom sink... is he an actual giant OP?

Where does he empty the penis beaker?

How is cleaning your teeth in the kitchen filthy? Please do explain? I wander round the house whilst brushing my teeth as I end up brushing for longer. There's NOTHING 'filthy' about brushing teeth whilst stood in the kitchen it just isn't how it's 'traditionally' done ffs! That's not filthy. Teeth cleaning is sterile 🤣

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 28/12/2022 21:37

@FourEyesGood You are right foureyes, I never thought there were such goings on with the kettle, but I should have emptied and will in future.

It's not dangerous at all, boiling water would kill any germs, but I still wouldn't do it.

😧😧😧😧 Have you never heard of heat resistant bacteria for fuck's sake?!?!?!? 😧😧😧😧

SinnerBoy · 28/12/2022 21:41

Gobbing in the kitchen sink is repugnant. What if he splashed the clean dishes on the drainer?

Hedjwitch · 28/12/2022 21:42

Is it pronounced tuth mug?

Fifi00 · 28/12/2022 21:45

It's gross but boiling the kettle removes all the bugs that's the point of a kettle!!!

@AriettyHomily I agree Arietty, he says bending hurts his back, so he has this whole tooth cleaning, flannel for face washing in the kitchen. I make him keep them all in a cupboard, but I can't say I like it.

He only has to bend once to spit out after brushing his teeth. It really shouldn’t be that much of an issue.

I’d rather pay for a sink to be installed higher in the bathroom that have someone spitting and washing in the kitchen sink. It just seems so wrong

BeingHeldAtHunPoint · 28/12/2022 21:51

@SchnauzerEyebrows how is cleaning your teeth sterile? Confused your mouth is full of bacteria and you (op’s DH I mean) shouldn’t be spitting where you wash your dishes!

Irridescantshimmmer · 28/12/2022 21:59

Omg
🤣
They can't help it, I think its how their heads are wired.

WHERE IS HE EMPTYING THE PENIS BEAKER?

😂😂😂

ACynicalDad · 28/12/2022 22:06

Be grateful it wasn’t from the penisbeaker

FuntCase · 28/12/2022 22:14

You’re both rank. Not emptying the kettle in the morning is grim. We found an earwig in our kettle one morning, you could be drinking insect stew.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 28/12/2022 22:38

@Hedjwitch Loved the Tuth Mug idea and all the false teeth tropes - though DH has most of his own teeth.
