not exactly a AIBU but really need to know if I’m being dramatic
Christmas Eve laying in bed with a hot coffee and it spills ALL over my legs and bum. ( worst pain of my life, literally never felt anything like it..would rather give birth again a billion times )
anyway my point is..does this look like it’s going to scar..I’m scared as it’s a large part of my body..slightly panicking.
Ps. Hard to take photos from this angle.

If the burn has spread to your genitals you need to seek medical help. You said your bum but the photo looks like bikini line and I’m sure it doesn’t stop dead on your knicker line so im just pointing that out.

Also if the burn is bigger than your hand (assuming you don’t have giant hands, it looks like it would be) you need to seek medical help.

Go now, it might be quieter at this time of the day on Boxing Day. Good luck.

whateveryouwantmetosay · 26/12/2022 05:45

Not being dramatic. It looks painful. It may scar, only time will tell. Get a good scar cream?

Sindonym · 26/12/2022 05:50

A burn that big needs to be seen.

DinosaurDuvet · 26/12/2022 05:53

I got badly burnt with a hot water bottle a few years back, burns looked like that but they didn’t scar - stayed pink for several months though

although just to add, mine was no where near as big as that and the pharmacy made me go to to my gp treatment room to get it dressed because it was so big. Definitely seek medical care op

Zanatdy · 26/12/2022 06:10

I’d also get it checked out. It looks very sore, bless you

Luckingfovely · 26/12/2022 06:12

I can't even imagine the pain, you poor thing. Not an expert but I also think you need medical attention soon for a burn that size.

TennyTroo · 26/12/2022 06:14

You really do need to get that seen - it looks incredibly painful, you poor thing!

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 26/12/2022 06:16

Get some cold water on it until the sting goes then get yourself to A&E before it starts blistering up.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 26/12/2022 06:17

I would be insisting on A&E with a burn that size, and as quick as possible, the long term damage will be reduced with quicker treatment. I have had burns of that severity on hands and arms that were much smaller and I remember the pain and I am overwhelmed at the thought of how bad it must be for you having that level of pain over that big an area. get to hospital now. don't delay due to the inconvenience to your family. anyone that complains about you going to hospital when you need treatment this urgently does not love you. who has been calling you "dramatic"?

Lizzy1328 · 26/12/2022 06:40

Ex burns nurse looks ok but if shows signs of infection in the coming days seek medical help, keep it clean and dry, shouldn't scar. Stay hydrated. X

KangarooKenny · 26/12/2022 06:42

Keep it clean and dry. Then get some Bio Oil on it, amazing stuff.

EllieRosesMammy · 26/12/2022 06:42

Ouch, get it under some cold water! It looks painful but it doesn't look too deep so it shouldn't scar, as long as you follow the correct care steps x

Augend23 · 26/12/2022 06:46

Time to seek medical attention I think.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/burns-and-scalds/

It's clearly larger than a hand in total so I think you should go to urgent care unfortunately.

AperolWhore · 26/12/2022 06:59

Sudocream and tape cling film over it. I had a horrific burn on my arm a few years ago and that worked for me. Mine had blistered it was so bad too.

herbaltea21 · 26/12/2022 07:09

My hot water bottle exploded on face thsi yssr. My scar was a fraction of the size but I was referred to the. Urns unit due to where it was. They dressed it with silver dressing to aid the healing and as soon as that went on the pain and density vanished and it went from getting worse to start healing.
With that size and placement OP you need to get it dressed just imagining how hard it'll be to heal with clothes rubbing on it.
The better it's looked after now the less likely it will heal poorly.

Clearly you are not an “ex burns nurse”. It is a large burn, that’s discolouring, and you have absolutely no way of assessing how severe it is from a photograph. Your advice is extremely dangerous.

OP please ignore this “advice” and go to a&e. You need medical attention.

WildOats5678 · 26/12/2022 07:14

Some of the advice on here is awful!! Never put cold water on a burn it needs to luke warm/cool and definitely no creams.

Honestly OP you could do with that getting looked at and dressed correctly. Please don’t follow medical advice on this forum and get it seen my a medical professional in real life.

stayathomer · 26/12/2022 07:16

Hospital op and hugs. They’ll know what to do there

Divebar2021 · 26/12/2022 07:19

How did you treat it at the time?

stayathomer · 26/12/2022 07:22

Some of the advice on here is awful!! Never put cold water on a burn it needs to luke warm/cool and definitely no creams.

We stayed in the burns unit in Dublin with my son for two weeks when he was two after he pulled a cup of tea on himself. We were told from the head consultant that with such a burn when it happens you keep under cold water for as long as is bearable, take a break then go again. Luckily we were close to a hospital (although when we were transferred to the burn’s hospital they said the other hospital hadn’t quite gone the right way about it) when it happened so didn’t have to try it out and probably every burn is different but this guy knew his stuff (and definitely saved my son from a lot of scarring)

TroubleInSnowland · 26/12/2022 07:22

The best way to prevent scarring is proper first aid ie apply tepid water for 15-20 minutes. Then seek medical attention. Do not put anything on it except cling film as a dressing to prevent clothing sticking whilst you get to a hospital. Sudocreme, Vaseline etc will trap the heat and cause more damage.

poefaced · 26/12/2022 07:30

Ouch, OP. I did this a while back, spilt very hot tea on my hand. I went to A+E, they saw me straightaway and just put me in a cubicle and opened the cold water tap. I sat there for ages (20-30 mins) just letting cold water run over my hand.

(I felt bad about so much water but it really helped).

I would go to A+E. Coffee that hot can be a real shock.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/12/2022 07:36

Please don't put any oil on it, or anything in it at all advised here in fact OP until you've had it looked at. Not dramatic at all to seek assessment for that and I hope you do.

mrsbitaly · 26/12/2022 07:46

My gosh please go and have it looked at if you don't seek medical advice then it may scar if you are not getting the correct treatment, that's a nasty burn

Lizzy1328 · 27/12/2022 22:07

@PurplePastaBake you've clearly zero idea what you're on about so fuck off back into the hole you crawled out of!!!! How many full partial or full thickness burns have you treated!
