£10 gift voucher from work for Xmas…AIBU to think they shouldn’t have bothered?

So yesterday I get home from a long fourteen hour shift working in a care home to find a gift voucher in the mail. The gift voucher is from my work, one of the biggest care providers in the country, for the generous sum of £10. I can’t help but feel a tiny bit disgruntled about this. I mean, I would have preferred a pay rise in line with inflation to have tackle the rapid cost of living crisis that we find ourselves in but I suppose this shall do. Merry Christmas

Active Care Group?

Nah. Different one. Did you receive a similar token of appreciation?

Carer in NHS got nothing.

RunningFromInsanity · 24/12/2022 22:34

I work 14hours and I didn’t get anything.

You are being very ungrateful.

I would have been happier with nothing. Ungrateful or rightfully aggrieved that I work long hours and still can’t afford the basics. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you don't want it fine, some one else will have it. It's a GIFT. Moan about your pay sure but it's a seperate issue you should never be given a gift as any sort of making up for a shit wage.

Have you considered another job?

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 24/12/2022 22:48

Better than nowt.

tabulahrasa · 24/12/2022 22:51

I used to work in a bookers cash and carry, our Christmas present was a £10 voucher - to be spent in the cash and carry.

Nothing makes you feel valued like being able to get a case of happy shopper beans 😐😂

Have you considered another job?

Who would care for your elderly relatives if we all got different jobs?

Oh behave, my 65 year old mother has stayed behind 45 minutes after her shift ended both yesterday and today and missed the first half of a play she was seeing because of it!

booklovingmum · 24/12/2022 23:03

Ah, so ungrateful.

£10 x number of employees is A LOT.

£10 is A LOT to some people.

£10 is better than nothing.

Chazx · 24/12/2022 23:04

It's a bit of a kick in the nuts but better than nowt. Can you use at a super market? I'd be buying a big box of chocolates

Wayk · 24/12/2022 23:06

That is unacceptable. The money the are charging they could well afford more.I have a parent in a care home and I see how hard the staff Work. Ye are angels.

Gazelda · 24/12/2022 23:10

Plenty of folks out there. IME most care home staff are skivers who don't really give a shit about the people they're meant to look after anyway.

IME, most care home staff are full of compassion, energy, enthusiasm, caring, laughter, kindness and selflessness.

i wouldn’t have moaned last year, or even the year before last but in this current climate I will moan because £10 is barely enough to keep the house warm for a day atm.

It's not overly generous, no

704703hey · 24/12/2022 23:14

It's a separate issue to pay. £10 seems OK.

booklovingmum · 24/12/2022 23:16

I appreciate that @Overthis22 but that's an entirely separate issue as you're not going to use a £10 gift card on heating anyway are you.

Enjoy the £10 gift card treat yourself or spend it on something you'd have spent your own money on and just be grateful for what you do have.

Have a great Christmas

Blossomtoes · 24/12/2022 23:19

It’s an insult @Overthis22.
