A post came up in my work place I am the only one who qualifies for it. I was asked if I want it by higher management which could have been ideal but the said manager and I do not get on? What would you do? This manger change posts in March she won't be my direct manager then. What would you do?

I'd take it if I wanted it.

surreyisik · 24/12/2022 20:08

I would take it.

tanstaafl · 24/12/2022 20:11

Especially as they’re moving on in March I suggest you take it.
in a long career you’re going to have to deal with people in all positions who don’t like you.

(what evidence do you have btw?)

Fizzadora · 24/12/2022 20:13

I was in exactly this position and the reality of working with this manager wasn't anything like as bad as I was expecting, in fact we worked very well together and I stayed for a few years.

JackieDaws · 24/12/2022 20:13

Temporally? Is she a time traveller?

Mean. But funny. 😂

tickticksnooze · 24/12/2022 20:16

Take it and be professional.

Spectre8 · 24/12/2022 20:17

If she is definite moving on, then take it and grin and bear it

Grin

Take it. March is 3 months away. If its not you it might be someone else foisted on you. Better to control it than not.

steff13 · 24/12/2022 21:14

What's three months? I'd take it.

NumberTheory · 24/12/2022 21:19

How does this manager “not liking” you manifest?

It’s only three months you’re going to be reporting to her so it seems like it would make sense to take the promotion and put up with it for 3 months. But if there’s a possibility you’d be set up for something career wrecking in that time then it would not be a good idea.

Absolutely not this manager have previously attempted to wreck my career and that was found out. I am not bragging but I am intelligent for managers liking.

I am not sure sorry.

KatherineJaneway · 25/12/2022 07:56

Take it. It is only for a short while you have to work with them and hopefully you can get some coping strategies in place.

Pismascrescents · 25/12/2022 07:56

Behave professionally. Cover my ass as much as possible. Take the promotion

The missed word was inevitable in that type of sentence.

Unlikely that someone doesn't like you being intelligent, it will be your behaviour or something else that's an issue. What did they actually do before? It's hard to advise when you're being hazy about the source of the issue.

Alexxxy · 25/12/2022 08:07

It will be outing to tell the whole story but the manager was unfair to me and her bosses realised that.

OP posts:
Singleandproud · 25/12/2022 08:07

Take the promotion, stick it out then look into moving companies if this manager is that bad otherwise you'll keep coming across each other.

MRex · 25/12/2022 08:56

Without even a hint about what's gone on, it's impossible to advise. Good luck with your decision.

Princessglittery · 25/12/2022 10:03

Take the job, it’s only a short period until March.

If the manager’s boss’ realised they were being unfair it is unlikely this manager would try it again.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 25/12/2022 10:31

With that history... take it.

Show your bigger bosses how professional you are

Cover your back very, very carefully for the 3 months and remain aware even after she has gone.

Defuse anything you spot immediately with an email to whoever, asking for clarity/ confirmation.

Plaster on that professional polite face and do the job well. Vengeance is a life well lived/ a job well done, after all!

Some people just don't like each other, that's fine. There is a manager at work who doesn't like me, I suspect it is because I don't fawn over her.

Meh, it's life. I don't particularly like her either.

It's three months OP, stick it out.
