Is my hairdresser unreasonable to think that the hair colour adverts are lying when they say celebrities use them?

Hairdresser is adamant there is no way that they could acheive the top quality colours with a box dye and the adverts are lies.

Is my hairdresser spot on?

I’ve always thought that Hollys hair is a bit brassy and often has very visible roots, which I’ve never understood with all the hairdressers and beauty she must have access to being on tv all the time

I worked for L’Oréal and Holly and Davina both use the Garnier dyes.

Never heard a hairdresser use the word dye in my life!!! Hahahah

stressbucket1 · 24/12/2022 09:01

Yeah I've always thought the same. There is no way these celebrities use a £10 box dye. Same as there is no way Jamie Redknapp goes around wearing skechers

I am old enough to remember Andie McDowell and L’Oreal Excellence. “and does it EVER cover greys!” She has now embraced her greys and looks great IMO.

CheshireKat75 · 24/12/2022 09:13

My old hairdresser does the hair of one of these celebs. The celeb DOES use the box hair dye but the hairdresser applies it.

Itsoverflo I agree. Have been colouring own hair for some time.my neighbour and my niece both complimented me.asked where do I go to.urm at home lol

Invisimamma · 24/12/2022 09:18

Stacey Solomon, no way she achieved that change for her wedding from box die alone without professional help and guidance.

Brummymummof2, a 'normal' influencer has had a few box die ads, and her hair looks shit, yellow-blonde, wrong tones, so many colours, orange tinged roots. That's how most people look with box dye after box dye applied. Unless you're doing an all over dark, onto already dark hair the result won't be like the salon.

Given the state of Holly Willoughby's hair most of the time, I highly doubt that's the work of a professional..............

Agreed!

Yes. Stacey Solomon springs to mind with her transformation from red to blonde. You only have to watch a few Brad Mondo videos to see the results home dying achieves and it's never pretty 😂

Brad Mondo is not a good hairdresser, he is just a famous hairdresser from social media.

I would think from an advertising point of view they will have to use the box dye for the actual shoot but it will be professionally applied with good lighting.

I remember an advert featuring Beyonce with long luscious hair of various wonderful colours - it was quite obviously a wig/weave and no way coloured by a box of L'oreal!

Another was of Cheryl Cole - in tiny writing there was reference to Miss Cole wearing a number of extensions/additions or some such description; again no way the whole head coloured by a box of dye!

Of course your hairdresser is right

do you honestly think Holly Willoughby is sat there at home every 6 weeks with a box of garnier open doing her hair in the sink?

I used the Holly Willoughby blonde box colour and mine looks nothing like it. My hair was dark blonde now it's kind of ginger blonde, certainly nothing like Holly's 😆
