To ask neighbours guests to more their car?

SweetBlues · 23/12/2022 12:50

So about 40 minutes ago, some visitors arrived at neighbours house… But they have parked across my dropped curb and in effect are blocking me.

I’m in the process of getting ready to take the kids out and assumed because they had a lot of presents in tow that perhaps they were doing a ‘drop and dash’ visit but it’s looking like that is not the case.

Am I being unreasonable to ask them to
budge their car? (They could always park across the road or further along the street).

fyi here is the diagram which I know should accompany these such posts:

my house is A. I have a red car.
neighbours is b. They have three purple cars. One of which is always parked on the road.
their guests who have blocked me in are the green car.
the thicker white sections of line are where the dropped curbs are.

is it grinchlike to ask them to move?

Did someone mention fudge 😋

IsItThough · 23/12/2022 15:21

Ask them quick before they get leathered

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2022 15:21

the time it took to draw the diagram and post on MN would have been much better spent on nipping round to tell them to shift. At least speak to them first and if they tell you no THEN you have a parking thread.

dcut · 23/12/2022 15:24

Are you just trying to start a parking thread in the hope that it ends up in classics?
If you weren't posting just for a laugh, I find this totally bizarre.
They've parked across your dropped kerb. You need to go out. You go round, ring the bell and ask them politely to move. End of.

billybear · 23/12/2022 14:25

knock now bewfore they can say they have had a drink

This is a good point.

Also, it's now 2.5 hours since the OP, surely something has happened by now?

homeishere · 23/12/2022 15:28

Not very Christmassy of you to ask them to move. You should let them stay where they are.

Has to be a joke. Any other time of year the OP would be told big girl pants and DEMAND them to move

ItsACrater · 23/12/2022 15:32

Huh! Well if you need them to move to get out then they’ll have to move it. It’s like a non questions

Wonnle · 23/12/2022 15:38

Should have said OI as soon as they parked there

Whatmarbles · 23/12/2022 15:42

Yep, just pop round and ask them to move for you.
I wouldn't have thought anybody would be arsey about that.

FromDespairToHere · 23/12/2022 15:46

I am the soggiest of wet blankets, the most supine of pushovers and the flattest ever doormat but even I would have no difficulty asking someone to stop blocking my drive!

Thefriendlyone · 23/12/2022 12:51

Is this a trick or joke question? No you must stay home when you need to go out and not ask Confused

This!

Why the need to post a thread about it? Just knock and ask them to move

AndEverWhoKnew · 23/12/2022 16:22

Can you get out by driving over the regular kerb? Is that why you're questioning getting them to move their car because you could actually drive around it?
If I could get out without asking them to move then I probably would - because it's quicker and easier. If you can't drive round them, then of course you need to ask them to move their car.

MeridianB · 23/12/2022 16:29

Definitely ask them to move. Your neighbour should have checked where they parked and advised the, not to leave their car there in the first place.

NoAlexa · 23/12/2022 16:37

Still trapped op? Or did you manage to ask them to move?

ozymandiusking · 23/12/2022 16:43

I'm sure they think you will ask them to move if you need to to go out, they have probably stopped longer than they intended .Just in case they are problematic, do remember that it is illegal for them to block your access to the highway.
Parking across an empty driveway does not have the same implications.

ortonym · 23/12/2022 16:57

Right. 4 hours up. C'mon OP. What happened?

KloppsTeeth · 23/12/2022 17:02

My neighbours visitors parked across my drive this time last year, and I am still trapped in my house because I didn’t want to ask them to move and they just left the car there. 😉

blondie185 · 23/12/2022 17:08

So you have a double drive? It could be neighbourly to offer the space next to yours for their visit? "Hi, I just need to pop out. Could you move your car? You're welcome to use the space next to me whilst you visit today."

Hope that’s a joke.

Survey99 · 23/12/2022 17:23

Can't believe this is even a thread. Knock the door say - "Hi, sorry, but I need to get out my drive can you ask your friends if they can move their car please, thank you😁"

End of story. No drama. No saga.

If you had done that and they told you they were pissed and couldn't drive now, then that would have been a thread!

TheCurseOfBoris · 23/12/2022 17:24

So glad there was a diagram as that's a really tricky one, lol.

Doris86 · 23/12/2022 17:45

Why do you even need to ask on here? Of course you ask them to move.

SavoirFlair · 23/12/2022 17:47

ortonym · 23/12/2022 16:57

Right. 4 hours up. C'mon OP. What happened?

You think they are likely to come back and update the thread after being openly mocked by the fudge-baking innately assertive royalty of Mumsnet?

maybe if some of you bullies discovered something else for entertainment while the baked goods cool down…

Cas112 · 23/12/2022 17:48

You really needed to ask mumsnet that Confused
