To ask neighbours guests to more their car?

So about 40 minutes ago, some visitors arrived at neighbours house… But they have parked across my dropped curb and in effect are blocking me.

I’m in the process of getting ready to take the kids out and assumed because they had a lot of presents in tow that perhaps they were doing a ‘drop and dash’ visit but it’s looking like that is not the case.

Am I being unreasonable to ask them to
budge their car? (They could always park across the road or further along the street).

fyi here is the diagram which I know should accompany these such posts:

my house is A. I have a red car.
neighbours is b. They have three purple cars. One of which is always parked on the road.
their guests who have blocked me in are the green car.
the thicker white sections of line are where the dropped curbs are.

is it grinchlike to ask them to move?

Calling parking enforcement to ticket them would be the Grinch move. Asking them politely to move their car so you can get out is just standard.

Name99 · 23/12/2022 13:16

No, of coutse don't ask them to move how unreasonable.
Either

  1. Stay in all day cancelling your plans and peeping through your curtains or
  2. Start ramming your car into theirs yo get their attention.
TidyDancer · 23/12/2022 13:20

Are the neighbours generally arseholes and making you worried about saying something? That's the only reason I can think of that you would hesitate.

chipsandpeas · 23/12/2022 13:21

YABU based on the non ability to go and ask

poefaced · 23/12/2022 13:22

I think I’ve figured out why OP is hesitant to ask.

I think OP can just about get off her driveway if she manoeuvres carefully. But she shouldn’t have to!!!

spare123 · 23/12/2022 13:24

Really? you've spent all this time drawing a diagram instead of just ringing the doorbell and saying - I need to go out, please can you come now and move your car, I'll wait while you get your keys .

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 23/12/2022 13:26

Have they moved?

Ponderingwindow · 23/12/2022 13:26

Why are you hesitating to tell them to move?

Virginiaplain · 23/12/2022 13:27

Tell them you are just popping out for something - giving the impression you are not going to be long or they will just repark there

Aftersevens · 23/12/2022 13:40

YABU It’s Christmas! You absolutely cannot ask them to waste precious seconds to move their inappropriately parked car.
You need to get over your entitlement and figure out a way to construct a ramp so you can safely get your car out. And please make sure you construct it quietly.

pinkpotatoez · 23/12/2022 13:41

Well obviously unless you want to stay inside all day Confused

Thefriendlyone · 23/12/2022 13:42

UsingChangeofName · 23/12/2022 13:06

Agree with everyone else.
Why is this even a question ?

I think it’s a joke, she even drew a diagram

EasterIsland · 23/12/2022 13:48

Of course they should move! I thought it was illegal to park by a dropped curb if you were stopping someone getting off their driveway?

ShirleyPhallus · 23/12/2022 13:53

What a conundrum, with no reasonable options. I think the best option would be for you should rev your car as hard as possible then let the hand break off and drive in to their car as fast as possible. You may sustain a minor amount of damage and / or injury but it would be worth it to get off the drive.

Yeah, I think so too. "Causing an obstruction".
However, keep it civil and ask, as demanding could have repercussions with neighbours in the future.

pinkyredrose · 23/12/2022 13:58

Do you have problems standing up for yourself?

CKL987 · 23/12/2022 13:59

If it was me I'd ask them to move so I could get out and then tell them I'm happy for them to park there and block me in as long as they are happy to keep moving for me when I go in and out.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 23/12/2022 14:01

Why would you not ask?

OoooohMatron · 23/12/2022 14:01

Why wouldn't you? I wouldn't even ask politely to be honest.

NoelNoNoel · 23/12/2022 14:01

Excellent diagram and clear description of the parking situation OP and yes definitely knock and tell them to move the car.

Wishimaywishimight · 23/12/2022 14:03

Maybe they planned to just drop and go but got into conversation. How is this a question. Just pop round and ask them.

I do sometimes wonder how people on here manage to get through life when they can't deal with the most straightforward situations without consulting a website for advice.

Bpdqueen · 23/12/2022 14:04

Unless that car is an ambulance ask them to move it you have things to do

Brendabigbaps · 23/12/2022 14:05

3 purple cars, that’s very niche!

*misses the point and the irony completely I know, it just made me chuckle

WatchoRulo · 23/12/2022 14:07

Is you car much larger than theirs? Maybe you could just ram them?

Testina · 23/12/2022 13:11

I’m surprised you’re allowed to be in charge of a phone to post, let alone children, if you need to take to the internet to ask this 🤣
FFS!

Not only a phone , a motorised internal combustion engine propelled vehicle as well Xmas Shock
