Yorkshire puddings belong on a Christmas dinner

Christmas dinner - other than Yorkshires and pigs in blankets - is fucking disgusting, and that goes for every course

Elf is a crap movie.

Too many parents get over invested in their child believing in Santa. The reason they love Santa is because he brings a shit load of toys. As long as they’re still getting the toys they’re happy.

Not sure if it is unpopular but I believe most people dislike Christmas and do it just because we "should". Its the same with present giving, its just one giant obligation. I'd prefer to bin it and create another tradition where we aren't made to do this nonsense. A bit like thanksgiving but without the present buying, fake good will and drama. Just sitting down being thankful for things we have, without all the nonsense that makes it tedious.

A lot of christmas staple foods aren't very nice:
Mince pies
Christmas pudding
Christmas cake

Agree!

Whynobreadpudding · 22/12/2022 20:04

I get depressed during the whole period.

IndieK1d · 22/12/2022 20:04

I prefer turkey stew to a Christmas dinner

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 22/12/2022 20:04

Christmas dinner DOES NOT NEED A BLOODY STARTER YOU GREEDY SODS!

Yippitydoodah · 22/12/2022 20:05

Kids are spoilt and get given too much.
Elf on a Shelf is ridiculous
Christmas Eve boxes are ridiculous
I’m not surprised so many are in debt with the obscene amount of spending just for one day
Anyone who buys their kid a PlayStation or Xbox should have their benefits cut

Misspacorabanne · 22/12/2022 20:06

Christmas trees decorated in colour coordinated themes are boring, I still believe it should be ALL the colours thrown on! And loads of multicoloured lights!! Don't get my started on those big flowers, and the feather things sticking out of the top! 😣they may look nice (if you like your tree to look like it's come decorated straight from a fancy department store) but to me it's not how a Christmas tree should be.

PyjamaFan · 22/12/2022 20:07

I agree with PP regarding elf on the shelf, Christmas eve boxes (why???), special bedding and pyjamas.

It's just so much tat and waste of money and resources. And what is it teaching our children?

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2022 20:08

I love Christmas but have never tangled with the elf thing

Christmas pudding is best served as ice cream (not with, as)

The rest of Christmas dinner is divine, and Yorkshires have nothing to do with it

I think the magic of F Christmas is in leaving the mince pies and whisky out and ringing the sleigh bells for the believers. He only brings little stocking gifts in our house, so nothing to do with present love.

What are cheesy footballs?!

Absolutely epic.

Would die on that hill 😁

80s Christmas trees 💯

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/12/2022 20:09

More is definelty not merrier

The best Christmases are child free, involve lots of cheese, booze and lounging around (I have kids)

RosesAndHellebores · 22/12/2022 20:10

I have loved Christmas for most of my life. Mass, lunch, children's joy, presents, carils, concerts, parties- all the sounds and sights and Nutcarcker somewhere in there.

It's difficult at present as MIL and mother reach their twilight years.

Cinnamonandcoal · 22/12/2022 20:10

Turkey is awful.
Special veggie Christmas mains eg nut roast are also awful. The sides are the best bits of a Christmas dinner so the vegetarians are mostly very happy with those.

Santa is ridiculous even for small children. I don't really understand why Santa is a thing. The presents come from me. Stocking fillers are mostly bits of plastic rubbish which still end up being expensive.

Christmas overall is great, but I think there should be a little less Christmas focus culturally and a little more on Chanukah and the festivals of other religions. A million Christmas films and not one Chanukah/Eid/Diwali rom com? Balance!

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2022 20:11

Oh!

But Carols are depressing. It’s the one bit of Christmas I really don’t like.

LuciferRising · 22/12/2022 20:12

We should go back to our pagan roots and celebrate yule and the passing of the seasons.

DipmeinChoc · 22/12/2022 20:12

Christmas cake is horrid and Turkey is dull, if they were nice it would be eaten more than one a year

GooglyEyeballs · 22/12/2022 20:13

Home alone is the worst movie ever.

Everything apart from the bird is the best part of Christmas dinner.

Chocolate Yule log is usually dry and gross.

I wish people outside my family would stop buying me presents so I don't feel like I have to get them something.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 22/12/2022 20:13

Secret Santas can be absolute shit, especially when people know they can anonymously get away with spending literally 25% of the agreed budget, with something they grabbed from a supermarket shelf. If you don't want to do it or can't afford to, just decline politely. Creates bad feeling otherwise. As the fruit bowl/box of roses story, which turned out not to be a fruitbowl proved!

Christmas with the tree and turkey etc doesn’t really have anything to do with religion though does it. They are all add ons from different traditions and countries. I think if someone wants it to be more religious they can do that anyway and ignore all the non religious stuff.

mamabeeboo · 22/12/2022 20:13

Christmas Dinner is a bland glorified Sunday roast.

People taking photos of their Christmas Dinner - why? We are literally all having the same food.

Christmas songs/carols

The inability to possibly have more than one occasion during December. I have 2 people in my immediate family who are born in Christmas week, and i can't even find birthday cards for them in the shops.

Christmas gifts should be limited to children only. There is no need to buy DM/MIL more perfume /make up/clothes /vouchers /anything else. When they don't need it. But every year when i suggest no gifts, i get shot down with "I dont appreciate them as people".

NippyWoowoo · 22/12/2022 20:14

Getting excited over the Radio Times and highlighting shit on TV is a weird pastime. Even weirder is posting about it on SM.

CheeryCat · 22/12/2022 20:14

That generally it’s the people who don’t pull
their weight at Christmas say ‘It’s just one day’

Bubbles2022 · 22/12/2022 20:16

Christmas Eve boxes are not needed.

AnneTwackie · 22/12/2022 20:16

The Holiday is bullshit.
Single dad Jude Law wakes up at the cottage without his kids and hundreds of people go to an awards night ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Did they just forget it’s Christmas?
