Yorkshire puddings belong on a Christmas dinner

Christmas dinner - other than Yorkshires and pigs in blankets - is fucking disgusting, and that goes for every course

Elf is a crap movie.

Too many parents get over invested in their child believing in Santa. The reason they love Santa is because he brings a shit load of toys. As long as they’re still getting the toys they’re happy.

I always get very down around Christmas eve and all through January.
Hate mince pies and Christmas cake.
Can be an extremely boring day. Just hold up to make it more exciting than it actually is.

SideshowAuntSallly · 27/12/2022 15:20

I hate the time between Christmas and New Year it is so boring. Everyone goes to the gym at times they wouldn't usually go, the shops are rammed so going for a loaf of bread is a mission to avoid those wandering aimlessly down the aisles.

I'm also with Nigella people don't need to over indulge, they then complain about the weight they put over Christmas. Step away from that cake or chocolate then.

Benjispruce4 · 27/12/2022 16:48

Nigella lecturing on overindulging? 😂

Crackof · 27/12/2022 16:54

It's like ex smokers innit!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/12/2022 16:55

Nigella has lost 12kg over the last 3 yrs apparently, so not sure what the fat shaming is about? Hmm

Benjispruce4 · 27/12/2022 17:47

Who is fat shaming? To need to lose 12kg means that she over indulged regularly so is hardly in the position to lecture others.

I used to be a Christmas nut. I now much prefer Easter. Christmas has lost its “christmassy”. Easter is like Christmas but without the pressure and nicer weather for me. I really enjoy it.

and I fucking hate Christmas chart music. Old old classics are great but all the 70s/80s/90s songs depress me to the hilt.

Completely agree about Easter. Even if the weather isn't great, at least the days are longer, so you're not worrying about whether you'll make it home before it gets dark.

Christmas pudding, Christmas cake and minced pies are rank 🤢 ( can you see the theme?)
dressing up for Christmas Day is not necessary, your trying to make memories not attending a fashion show
Presents should be opened before dinner.... IMO it’s mean to make kids wait until after dinner.
Yorkshire’s absolutely belong on Christmas dinner

You would hate our house. We don't open presents until December 26 (Boxing Day or St Stephens Day depending which way you roll).

This tradition started when our DC were tiny and trying to do church, stockings, dinner, games, family visits, games, singing and presents was too much. They were overwhelmed and overtired. So we delayed presents and stockings to the next day. They grew up with this and eventually came to feel very sad for the children who did everything on the 25th and had nothing to look forward to the next day.

they are over 30 now and we still save the very few presents we exchange intill the 26th. Christmas Day is happy enough without them.

That’s genius!

oohyoudevilyou · 31/12/2022 19:26

I hate wine. Especially champagne, prosecco, and all the crap that is twee -ly referred to as "bubbles" and gets shoved in your face over the festive season. Give me a pint of Moretti and just fuck off with your "fizz" will you?

Skodacool · 31/12/2022 20:54

I love turkey 🤣

SmudgeButt · 01/01/2023 06:26

People hate Brussel sprouts. Those who say they like them are either lying or insane.

pictoosh · 01/01/2023 09:26

I love NY fireworks. Ooh...aah...pop bang fizz.

LinguaFranca · 01/01/2023 11:03

I have very fond memories of Christmases spent in continental Europe, where the whole day (24th) is spent in anticipation of the big meal with family in the evening. There is a real sense of building up to the event, and it is in general much less commercial and more traditional. So my unpopular opinion is that I hate British Christmas, which seems tawdry in comparison.

I like them, and I'm not lying (insane is a matter of opinion, I suppose).

Moxysright · 01/01/2023 23:27

Hate having to buy pointless selection boxes / generic gift sets for relatives I don’t see all year but if don’t get a small token gift they’ll get arsey!
honestly I’d be happy to just buy a few things for our own children and save our money! Wish everyone would do the same (ie just focus on your own!)

stayathomer · 02/01/2023 00:44

That new year’s staying up and shops being closed shouldn’t be a thing! (And I work in a shop before anyone says anything!!!)

Crackof · 02/01/2023 00:47

It's still Christmas. Christmas starts on Christmas Day and carries on until 12th night. I'm still all about films and snuggling.

They're delicious, but it's easy to overcook them.

Well I like sprouts! So do dh and ds. Dd not so much. I guess maybe we're insane...

BarrelOfOtters · 02/01/2023 08:11

Love a Brussels sprout. Like them roasted and with bacon….or sliced with soy and chilli and garlic. But on Christmas Day, lightly steamed, they are a lovely bitter little foil to everything else. I grow my own.

Fairislefandango · 02/01/2023 08:15

Surely it's the 'trying to make memories' people who are most likely to do the dressing up? 'Making memories' usually seems to be code for creating Insta-worthy scenes. Doing things that are enjoyable specifically for the purpose of looking back on them always seems kind of the wrong way around to me!

I don't find them bitter! Sometimes they're even slightly sweet. Love the thick texture.
