Hello all

Had a recent thread re my ex and the abuse

We are now no contact

My kids need a passport and I don't know how to do this without his signature?

We have a non mol in place

Do I need to go to family court to apply for tue passports?

Thanks all

I dont think you need his signature? You apply for it on their behalf. Use your details, your passport number (assuming you have a British passport), and put down his details for passport as unknown.
Pretty sure DH never signed the kids apications.

Mumof1andacat · 20/12/2022 12:24

You don't need his signature. I didn't need my dh signature to apply for my sobs and we are together. You do need to list dad's name (I think)

thisisasurvivor · 20/12/2022 12:24

We were not married

Someone said I need to go to court to get this granted

TeenDivided · 20/12/2022 12:25

Will you need his permission to take them abroad with the passports?

thisisasurvivor · 20/12/2022 12:25

He's not involved in any way

He abused us and the kids

We now have non mol in place

I applied for my daughters first passport recently. All online - no signature and her dad didn’t have anything to do with the process.

dementedpixie · 20/12/2022 12:34

You dont need the other parents' signature. There is a space to put his details.

Put what details you have.
Just apply in the normal way. Online is cheaper

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 20/12/2022 12:34

I have never involved my exh in our kids' passport applications. Put your details on the form, that will be sufficient

thisisasurvivor · 20/12/2022 12:44

But he's on the birth certificate

Sorry if this is ridiculous question

Just leave them off. Even when me and my ex were together (not married) he had nothing to do with applying for passports.

ThreeblackCats · 20/12/2022 12:51

You’ve been told by 6 other posters that you don't need him to sign anything, give permission etc.
You will need him to sign permission to allow his children to leave the country.
I’m unsure how much clearer you need this info. But everything you’ve been told is correct so far.

Bluebellsand · 20/12/2022 13:01

I'm with dh and all I needed from dh when I applied for dc passport was his information. Like his name and date of birth.

I heard people saying they need permission from the dc parents to allow children to leave the country.

dementedpixie · 20/12/2022 13:10

You don't need his permission or signature to get your kids a passport. Strictly speaking you're supposed to get his permission to take them abroad. Think there's something you can do through the courts so you don't need to do this part.

milkysmum · 20/12/2022 13:13

You do not need his details or his signature to apply for or renew a child passport -100%

Sorry if this is ridiculous question

It's only ridiculous if you keep questioning it - many people have answered and told you, you don't need his signature.

thisisasurvivor · 20/12/2022 13:16

Ah thanks all

He is in the birth cert

But I can apply online with my details only

Thanks again.

www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport
Just apply online. In the section where it asks for other parents details you can either just put what you have or put that you don't know the details. You don't need a signature.

Maybe the courts set aside his parental responsibility when they issued the non-molestation order.

OP, does your ex still have parental responsibility?

Or do you have a child arrangement order stating that the children live with you?
"You can take a child abroad for 28 days without getting permission if a child arrangement order says the child must live with you, unless a court order says you can’t."

Myself and my ex sort the kids passports between us (generally split out which ones we sort) and when one needs renewing I just go online and sort it, no signature or anything from her required. We keep them all at hers for ease but make sure they come over/go back when holidays are coming up.

thisisasurvivor · 20/12/2022 13:35

And online can be used also?

So send the birth certificate separately?
