GOV.UK checking MOT

Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:17

If you check a vehicle on the Gov site and it says MOT fail, if they get it retested and it passes does it show as a pass?

Yes

Onnabugeisha · 20/12/2022 11:19

Yes it does. The garage have to upload the pass though.

SquirrelRed · 20/12/2022 11:19

Yes it will still show the fail, but also the pass

WTAFnojustno · 20/12/2022 11:20

The fail doesn't get removed, it'll show fail and then pass on the relevant dates.

tiggergoesbounce · 20/12/2022 11:21

It will show both i believe.
So if you MOTing before you sell it, any buyer will see what it fialed for, i think.

GetOffTheRoof · 20/12/2022 11:21

Yes

Lonelycrab · 20/12/2022 11:22

Mine failed on minor items before I owned it. Both the fail, and the subsequent pass are shown on the online mot record.

Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:35

Thank you.

Is there any way of knowing if someone's car has a police marker?

This person regularly smokes cannabis and I'm worried about the passengers.

OP posts:
Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:36

They'll definitely know it's me if I report it.

OP posts:
Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:37

And also has expired tax.

Absolutely not. Police markers are solely held on PNC, not even a hint of it should be with the public.

They will not put a marker on for cannabis smoking unless their driving is likely to be impaired.

If tax is expired, you can report it.

SeatonCarew · 20/12/2022 11:41

Let's cut to the chase. Is this your partner and are the passengers (your) children? I think this will affect the advice you are given.

Skipsandskips · 20/12/2022 11:42

Don't hold your breath OP. My sisters ex partner has been driving around with no MOT since beginning of September and untaxed. He regularly drives under the influence (coke and weed). We reported it, police did nothing. When he was arrested for assault and harassment he hid his car from them. He's out on bail but still driving around to this very day.

Lonelycrab · 20/12/2022 11:45

I would have thought sooner or later they’d get caught by ANPR, cameras are everywhere these days including of course police cars.

But I’m not in the police so I have no idea if that’s true.

Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:45

@SeatonCarew yes, and my ex

OP posts:
Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:46

@Lonelycrab well yes if he's got a marker on his car. He's got a lot of offences including driving ones anyway.

OP posts:
Lonelycrab · 20/12/2022 11:50

Do you need a “marker” for that to happen? The cameras surely just scan the NP, cross reference with records (that are in the public domain anyway) and flag the car as untaxed or not MOT’d automatically. Surely that’s the whole point of anpr?

Thats my understanding of how it works. Like I said, I’m only assuming that’s the case.

Notaboutthebass · 20/12/2022 11:55

I see what you're saying, yes. In that case he's probably been stopped anyway. He won't be arsed though he'll just carry on. What happened if he ignores the police over no tax?

OP posts:
cheesecadet · 24/12/2022 09:37

Surely he'll get a hefty fine. I feel for you as I've been in a similar situation where my ex just thought he was above the law all the time. I would also report him if you think he is driving under the influence of drugs.

Notaboutthebass · 24/12/2022 09:56

I've reported him for no MOT and tax and I've told the police officer how worried I am about the kids being in the car as he smokes regularly. So he's going about getting a marker put on his car (if it's not already got one!), says it might not be before Christmas though and I'm so worried as he's taking them to see family for Christmas. What can I do?

OP posts:
Notaboutthebass · 24/12/2022 12:22

Can anyone help me to stop worrying about this, feeling so anxious and just want to enjoy Christmas!
Am I over thinking?

The police don't tend to actively patrol on Xmas Day, so they probably won't fall across him.

If you know when he'll be driving, an approx route, where he's going to and from etc you could report that and suggest they catch him at the wheel, however if your kids are in the car with him, they'll see the whole thing so you need to be aware of that. If he's arrested or the car seized, you'll also need to be able to pick up your kids, possibly at the side of the road or a police station or he'll be asked to nominate someone to collect them and he may not name you

What evidence do you have that he’s driving whilst under the influence of cannabis when the children are in the car? Has it happened before?
would any of his family members listen to your concerns if they are with him over Christmas? Would they intervene if they were worried?

junglejane66 · 24/12/2022 14:25

If its just lack of MoT and VED I dont think the police will be too interested.

A friend was stopped twice with no MoT, police just said get it sorted. On the second time they said they dont have time to do the paperwork for lapsed MoT's, but get it sorted.
If the vehicle was obviously unsafe they would take action I'm sure
