Can someone please explain how InPost works?!

Sorry for the misuse of AIBU.

I've sold an item on Vinted and it's telling me the buyer it using InPost 24/7 and has given me a digital label to download. This label is not like the Evri ones - it has no address on it, it's just a QR code. Apparently I need to scan it at my nearest drop off point and put the parcel in a locker. Im so confused as to how it will arrive at someone's address this way?! How does anyone know where it's going if it gets placed in a locker with no label on? Confused

I'm a bit concerned about things not arriving!

The driver who picks it up can also scan it to get the details

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 21:19

Thanks for your reply. But (apologies for seeming really dense here) - what exactly does he scan? There will be nothing attached to the parcel itself? I scan the QR code from my phone and then place a blank package into a locker, as far as I can tell.

It arrives at another locker and the buyer collects it from there, doesn’t it? No home address needed, the QR code holds info to get it from your nearest locker to their nearest one.

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 21:21

@Mañanarama

Ok so that's making a bit more sense, thank you! It will go to a locker as opposed to their home. Still confused as to exactly what the driver scans when he picks it up 😂

Perhaps I'm overthinking it ...

I was totally the same when I did this!
It was really easy tho - hardest part is the locker actually having space!

Maybebabyno2 · 18/12/2022 21:32

Honestly I don't know how it works but it does! Not only did the parcel I sent this way end up at the right machine, it didn't get collected and got delivered back to my house! It's like some sort of magic 🤣🤣🤣

You don't put the qr code on the parcel, just wack it in the collection locker with nothing on it. You scan the qr code on your phone and that's it.

RandomUsernameHere · 18/12/2022 21:34

You don't always need to attach a label but when I've used it before they give you a code to write on the parcel.

livelollove · 18/12/2022 21:34

Print the label off, attach to the parcel, when you get to the locker, scan the code and the locker will open, put in and shut the locker. It will then make its way to the recipients locker.

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 21:35

@Maybebabyno2 😂😂

When you sent it, did you place a blank parcel with absolutely no identifying information on it at all? Just a blank package?

It's blowing my mind how this works ....... 🤔

OP posts:
IDontWantToBeAPie · 18/12/2022 21:35

I'd presume that the information is locked into the locker number when you put it in. The driver will look at the info digitally attached to the locker and put on a sticker so it can be delivered to another locker. The buyer will be told the locker number they can get it on.

Now this is where I'm confused.

Do I need to attach a label, or not? 🤔

I've printed a label to put on mine, scanned the code, locker door opens, put parcel inside.

LtJudyHopps · 18/12/2022 21:38

I’ve only used it for returns but yes I’ve put a blank new look parcel in the locker and ended up with my refund both times. The QR code you scan to open a locker must be linked to that locker so they (I assume) scan a code to retrieve it and then it’s in their network with that barcode until it arrives at final destination.

I'd definitely attached the label just to be on the safe side. If they don't need it, they can ignore it.

Hellocatshome · 18/12/2022 21:39

Using Vinted I have found there are 2 ways of doing In Post. One where you get a label to print and stick on and one where you have nothing on the parcel and just scan the QR code it depends which the buyer has selected. I've done both and both parcels got where they were going.

No, if it’s a digital label you just scan the QR code. Also, if you have Evri parcels, they can also go in on post lockers (they do need labels though) handy to know if you’ve sold loads of stuff and everyone wants different couriers!

Babiesarenotrobots · 18/12/2022 21:42

I have sent many vinted items by inpost and always wondered what happened:
You scan the qr code, a locker pops open and boom. I also couldn't figure out how they knew whose parcel was whose. BUT I have now also bought something from vinted via inpost. I picked it up today - they sent me a QR code when it has arrived which I scanned to open the locker. The parcel had a label on it which has obviously been stuck on by the person who empties the machine. Very clever but it works!!

Babiesarenotrobots · 18/12/2022 21:44

And you 100% do not need to attach the label. The whole point of coding inpost as your shipping method is that you don't have access to a printer. Put the blank parcel in the locker.

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 21:47

@Babiesarenotrobots

Ahhh ok so this is making more sense to me now (I think!)

The identifying label gets stuck on by the person emptying the locker, and they know where it's going because that specific locker is now linked with the QR code I scanned on my phone ..... something like that? 🤷‍♀️

Same here. I couldn't get my head around how it actually worked, but I've sent a couple of packages without issue. I've removed it now as I postage option as the lockers aren't particularly close to me and they always seem full.

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 21:59

Yes I think after I've sent this parcel I'm going to remove it as an option, too. Purely because it makes no sense to me and I don't like things I don't understand 😂

FantaTv · 18/12/2022 22:02

I just this week picked up an In post parcel - I chose it so I could see how it arrives 😂 it came with a barcode on it but no name or address. The seller didn’t put the barcode on, just a blank package.

it is magic!

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 22:06

Well that's 2 votes for magic. It must be. There's no other reasonable explanation! 😃

OP posts:
Iwantamarshmallowman · 18/12/2022 22:10

I don't trust it . I always print the qr code and stick it to the package.
