No place I'd rather be... is where for you?

I need something to uplift me.
Mine is
Travelling around the Cornish countryside in our crap car, radio on, kids eating lunchables or Greggs happily after a day being slightly cold on the beach. We're half way through our holiday and have a bit of a suntan. The boot is full of tinned goods and we have made some friends at the campsite.
At my mums, there's an old film on their ancient 24" inch telly which flickers. We have just ate beef stew sprinkled with garlic, rosemary and orange zest and have our crumble in bowls on our laps. We might do a puzzle or play a board game. My phone is out of battery.

Sitting in a field, the sun on my face listening to the birds and the stillness with my horses munching happily nearby.

teezletangler · 18/12/2022 17:45

London. No better place on earth. Haven't been for two years and I can't wait to visit again next spring (live abroad).

More prosaically, my other favourite place is also the bath!

Berlinlover · 18/12/2022 17:48

London. Unfortunately I live in a one horse town in the west of Ireland.

Walking the Cornish coast path on a sunny day, the seagulls overhead, the waves crashing below and the pink thrift nodding in the breeze. It is all beautiful to me, but there is one spot where I feel the strongest contentment. I walk there and could just sit there all day.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 18/12/2022 17:59

Carrickfinn beach in Donegal, it's beautiful.

champagneplanet · 18/12/2022 18:37

Our caravan; with no phone signal, sat in the sunshine with a glass of wine and a book, DCs playing, DDog sleeping, DH and I just relaxing.

neverbeenskiing · 18/12/2022 18:55

At my Parents house, all of us around the table tucking into one of my Mum's amazing roast dinners, the kids in stitches at the adults (affectionately) taking the piss out of each other.

In my living room, curled up on the sofa under a blanket with a glass of red wine, a good book, one of my favourite records playing and the cat purring on my lap.

With DH, sat outside on the terrace of a bar in Lisbon sharing Tapas, drinking a Mojito and putting the world to rights.

Outside our tent; it’s a sunny summer evening, we’ve spent the day on the beach. We’re with a group of friends, our kids are running round playing with their mates and I’ve just got can of cold cider out of the ice bucket. Perfect!

Puppylucky · 18/12/2022 19:36

@bloodywhitecat Thinking of you and hope things aren't too tough. It must be a difficult time of year for you

Talaforniababe · 18/12/2022 19:42

On my own, totally anonymous, in a busy city centre pub, savouring a drink. Anywhere really. Or, I love going to the cinema on my own. I'm sociable but I love my own company.

DailyMaui · 18/12/2022 19:47

Ancient woodland at the back of my house. With ponds and a big lake with the remains of an old mill. It was beautiful. I moved, I haven't been back and probably never will. I think sometimes things are better in memory. But it was always my happy place. I played there as a child building camps and climbing trees. I walked the dogs there. My own children played there. It was a big part of my life, 42 years.

Oh Mini this sounds like heaven. I could feel the longing in your post.

Beaconofpope · 18/12/2022 20:14

I'm jealous of how many of you find your home your happy place. Mine just.. isn't. I feel so much pressure at home to clean, tidy, work, do life admin. Then there's the fear of who might bang on the door or what might be too much noise. I feel like I'm supposed to be on the road.
As the great Kimya Dawson sang;
Cos you like to be home most of the time
And I like to be gone most of the time
If I stay in one place I lose my mind
I'm a pretty impossible lady to be with

Reading this has made me sad. You were so lucky to grow up and raise your children in such a beautiful place.

For me, it's home listening to the owls out hunting. I love feeling so connected to nature.

LeevMarie · 18/12/2022 21:06

Hiddensee lying on the sand dunes looking at the clouds. Beautiful and tranquil.

Other than that, we've had some brilliant times in the Yorkshire Dales. Echoing previous posters, I love feeling connected to nature and just living quite simply.

Also super jealous of those who cited their homes as their perfect place! Would love to have the feeling of belonging at home - that really is my dream. I hate it here and can't wait to move (hopefully) in the new year. Northumberland is on our shortlist!

MiniTheMinx · 18/12/2022 21:25

Annabel073 I love hearing owls. I haven't heard one owl since I moved. And trees. I now live at the foot of the south downs, five minutes walk and I'm in the middle of nowhere, but no woodland Sad

SerenaB12 · 18/12/2022 21:51

On my couch in my living room.. preferably with the cat.
No place on earth makes me happier

Annabel073 · 18/12/2022 22:03

MiniTheMinx Oh what a shame. They're such wonderful creatures. I never tire of watching and listening to all of my birds.

Mahanii · 18/12/2022 22:04

Oh these are bloody lovely!
Mine are anywhere with my kids when they're in a good mood, or walking alone through the woods on a cold dry day.

Loafbeginsat60 · 18/12/2022 22:14

Sunbathing on the beach with dh, watching the kids splashing about paddle boarding.

Or at home on the farm at sunset, sheep following me up the field, horses all fed and happy.

Oh one more - on top the trailer when the last bale of hay has been cut and loaded and everyone is dusty and happy!
