To be sick of people talking about 'this virus' or 'this bug'

We live in a big ass world so when people say things like 'has anyone else got this bug/virus' it fills me with irrational rage. There are hundreds of illnesses out in the world at any one time. You probably don't have the same one as a random stranger you are chatting to online.

Lol yes correct

NameChangeLifeChange · 17/12/2022 21:51

I agree. I also don’t get the whole ‘we need to start isolating’ ‘we need to start wearing masks’ attitude- surely this is just kicking the can down the road? We knew there would be bounce back infections after a lack of mixing due to covid, especially in small children (we are really feeling this was a nursery aged child who’s ill constantly). Surely this is a power through and build up that immune system time rather than going back to the very thing that left us all so susceptible to ‘these bugs’ now?!

ShakeABake · 17/12/2022 22:10

I also share your irrational rage on this. People are being ridiculous 🤦🏻‍♀️

Changingplace · 17/12/2022 22:12

Yes! It makes more sense if you’re chatting irl to people you actually know but it’s really daft when people think other people online, who could technically be anywhere in the world are likely to have the same bug they have 😆

Soakitup37 · 17/12/2022 22:21

I’ve got said Bug. As do my children but I’m not even bringing it into general conversations irl or online/text. Just letting it be and waiting for it the blow over…..

Soakitup37 · 17/12/2022 22:22

Pre social media that’s what you did! You didn’t come to a forum asking for advice!

Needthisjob · 18/12/2022 11:08

Glad it's not just me.

Yes and also before Covid people would get a cold but they don't seem to get those now it's always 'a nasty virus'😂

susiesuelou · 18/12/2022 14:37

I always understand it to mean does anyone have the same symptoms as me, not specifically the exact same virus or bug. As a sort of solidarity thing, ie does anyone else feel as crap as me, etc. But that's just my interpretation. Maybe people do mean the same specific virus.🤷‍♀️

SallyWD · 18/12/2022 14:43

Yes.

GreenWheat · 18/12/2022 14:55

This gives me the rage too. When people come onto a forum of many thousands of parents asking "Is there something going round?". Well if you ask a massive group of parents if any of their children are ill, of course some of them will be. But then I have always found it pointless to sit around discussing symptoms of minor illness so am probably irrational about it!

Wait until you get it.

I'll be full of sympathy then.

Oh. No. Wait.

purpledalmation · 18/12/2022 14:58

Well I've got a virus! Actually it's just a cold 😀

iliketartan · 18/12/2022 15:09

Blimey OP who shat in your mince pie yesterday?

😂

MarigoldPetals · 18/12/2022 15:12

They are just making conversation. Lighten up.

Thepeopleversuswork · 18/12/2022 15:15

I agree OP it’s so scientifically illiterate. At any given time there are millions of microbes in circulation and in winter people succumb to more. The idea that everyone has the same bug is so stupid.

You would think there were no colds before COVID.

Puppyseahorse · 18/12/2022 15:15

Aaaahaahah I hate this too.

& then a bunch of people respond to say ‘yes! I also have a cough and a sore throat, must be the very same infectious microbe!!’

LOL

Merlott · 18/12/2022 15:15

Well often it is the same bug 🤷‍♀️

The strep A thing for example, it's a particularly nasty strain.

doodlejump1980 · 18/12/2022 15:17

It would make so much more sense if people gave a rough idea of where they are. I’m not going to panic about a big going round London if I live in the highlands 🙈

Literally no one says that

Hazbeen · 20/12/2022 11:50

Well I’m in the south east and I currently have a horrid bug. I’ve actually got a fever. I never get fevers. Sore throat. Skin hurts. Muscles hurt. Cough. And the worst headache ever. Day nurse not touching it.

I don’t know what it is but it’s not a cold and it can fuck off now.

user1471457751 · 20/12/2022 12:14

Yes!! This winds me up so much too, glad I'm not the only one. It's so fucking pointless

Ineedsleepandcoffee · 20/12/2022 12:21

Yes and just as annoying when people think they can't have the same bug as you because your symptoms aren't exactly the same. Your think COVID would have taught people that there is a huge range of symptoms and severities even with one strain if a virus but yet you still see the old line about you can only have flu if you can't pick a tenner off the floor.

MumGoneMild · 20/12/2022 12:21

I fucking hate when people click then read something they are not interested in then make a whole post complaining about the post they read by choice

its so fucking pointless !!
