Who is my car insurance with?

Earlier today a vehicle hit the rear side passenger door.

Problem is I can't find who my insurance is with. Ive checked online and im insured. But ive checked emails, bank statements and can't find it. I've logged onto comparethemeerkat.com but as there is only 4 days left on my insurance it is only coming up with you quotes and won't say who gave the best quote last year.
Strangely I haven't had a renewal quote email or letter.

Can anyone help please?

No one will be able to tell you! You need to search through email or paper files!

abbs1 · 16/12/2022 18:27

Can you check your email history for last year's confirmation of insurance?

Moraxella · 16/12/2022 18:27

If it’s up to renewal in 4 days go through your email with a fine toothed comb for messages in December 2021, junk and all. Surely you must have a credit card or debit card statement with an outgoing amount in dec 21?

DashboardConfessional · 16/12/2022 18:28

You must have paid for it in the last 12 months. Try your bank.

NoDairyNoProblem · 16/12/2022 18:28

Try A plan, they took over our policy last year.

flyingnewbie · 16/12/2022 18:31

I've never used it before, but you could try the Motor Insurance Bureau - www.mib.org.uk/managing-insurance-data/requesting-your-data/

Wherehaveyouhiddenthebiscuits · 16/12/2022 21:21

Flyingnewbie thanks mighty try that.

I think I must have paid with monzo- and i have closed that account .
Not sure why I can't see it on my emails. Im hoping that a renewal letter has been delayed in the past due to the strikes and it turns up tmrw. Failing that I think il ring around the main insurers and check if im. With them.

I had to check my bank account to find out who I had paid

Look under your direct debits

Theunamedcat · 16/12/2022 21:27

Ahh vlosed your account so did you pay for the year last time?

CanadianJohn · 16/12/2022 21:31

I understand nothing of the modern world, but if you were stopped by the police and asked to prove you have insurance, surely you would show them either the paper slip or the phone equivalent, which would include the company name, policy number, and expiry date.

Or isn't that what you do in England?

TruffleShuffles · 16/12/2022 21:41

Even if the account is closed down is there no way you can still log in to access old bank statements?

Yoloohno · 16/12/2022 21:43

Is the other party at fault, contact their insurers and go directly through them.

Yoloohno · 16/12/2022 21:45

Although you’ll need to report it when you find who your previous insurer was and will need to declare it for your new policy.

OneCup · 16/12/2022 21:47

If your policy is due for renewal, you probably got your next quote via post/email?

If not, can you check your bank statements?

OneCup · 16/12/2022 21:47

Sorry - I see it got mentioned. Somehow missed a whole page.

Laquila · 16/12/2022 22:10

Can you remember who it was with the year before?

Laquila · 16/12/2022 22:11

As a pp says, I would go through your emails for that month using the advanced search to look for "policy documents" or similar, or maybe your reg.

whowhatwerewhy · 16/12/2022 22:12

If you make contact with the insurance company of the car who hit you, it will flag on there system who your with and they can tell you.

Figgypuddingpiggyfudding · 16/12/2022 22:14

Could it be esure? I can never find my emails easily from them, have to type it a certain way when searching my emails for my policy.

Can't remember how I type it but it's not esure that's for sure.

twinkletwinkle007 · 16/12/2022 22:17

You used to be able to check insurer details via Motor Insurers Bureau. It costed £3 a few years ago.

Type your reg into the search on your email.

The cops have access to the MIB record and can see whether a car is insured, (and I assume for which drivers).

Runningintolife · 16/12/2022 22:23

Look up LV= on your email this is the only search term that brought up our LV car insurance last week
