Please help me decide if DD should go to school

DD (5) was at home yesterday because she had a fever the day before. Yesterday her fever only went up to 37.5. In the night she was in the toilet gagging but was not sick.

her little sister has been having very high temperature (39-40) since Monday with vomiting and diarrhoea that started after a few days of fever. And there’s been this sickness bug going around at school. So I am worried she will be vomiting later if I send her to school, but her current symptoms are not bad.

her attendance was really bad last year but she’s been sick just a few days this year.

I've lost count of how many d+v bugs we've had as a family this year, I honestly can't tell you. But comments like this explain how/why we get them so often.

"It's not the last day of term here. I also doubt many Christmases will be ruined by a potential sickness bug which is likely to be well over within 9 days and almost certainly won't need the NHS."

Let me tell you, as a family of 5 when 1 person catches d+v it usually takes anywhere between 2 days and just over a week for everyone else to get it. I was last man standing at day 8 when I got it the last bug we had. So let me tell you if one of my children got a sickness bug 9 days before xmas the chances are at least 1 of us will either be in the thick of it or still serving our 48 hours quarantine in 9 days time. It will ruin someone's Christmas!!! The "they are fine to go in" brigade are why my kids have had so many bugs, selfish!

Well I'd keep her home only because it's Friday, they finish early here on a Friday so usually not much point going in!

Our kids finish on Thursday next week!

her fever has gotten up above 38 today, no sickness so far but I’m glad I kept her home. She would have been too tired for school.

“Well let me tell you” I don’t send my kids in sick so no need to label me selfish. Nor did I encourage OP to send her DD in. You can’t possibly keep all of your kids off if only one is ill. Wait until they get to high school as (gasp) there is NO 48 hour rule, they are encouraged to go back the minute they stop puking. Once again my comment was in reply to a rather dramatic PP. I’m bored now of repeating myself to people who have failed to RTFT so I’m out.

Hope she’s on the mend OP, she’ll be shattered if she was up all night. Hopefully the weekend will help her recover. It’s been a long they are all ready for a break.

Try not to get too hung up on attendance at this age, she’s so small. I got hassle when my DC were that age for keeping them off so often but they just kept catching endless viruses which is completely normal, their immune systems are still developing. I just ignored it because it’s like, would you prefer I sent them in with chicken pox or norovirus?
