Flu jab side effects.

OoooohMatron · 12/12/2022 21:45

Sorry, posting here for traffic as I never seem to get a response in any other topics. Please can anyone advise on how bad the side effects are from the adult flu jab? I have never had one before and am booked in tomorrow but I have a really busy week and I'm worried it will put me out of action for a couple of days. How Ill have you been post jab? Is it just feeling a bit shit but able to crack on, or worse?

I've had it the last few years and the only side effects I had was a very sore arm if the nurse didn't do it right.
We called one Mrs Stabby as she literally did stab you

KangarooKenny · 12/12/2022 21:49

I’ve never had any side effects from a flu jab, not even a sore arm.

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/12/2022 21:49

No side affects. I've had it for 7 years.

bakewellbride · 12/12/2022 21:50

I've had it loads of times and absolutely zero side effects. Perhaps a very slightly sore arm at worst.

Backy · 12/12/2022 21:51

I had no side effects this year (maybe a little tired but that could have been a coincidence). I can’t remember previous years I’m afraid although that probably means it wasn’t too bad. Don’t forget that if you do get side effects, most will be vastly improved with paracetamol.

Rachaelrachael · 12/12/2022 21:51

Had it once when I was pregnant, absolutely no side effects at all

GreenSeaGlass · 12/12/2022 21:51

Same as everyone above - just a sore arm.

Lcb123 · 12/12/2022 21:52

I had a sore arm until next day, but took painkillers and it went away

Marymary987 · 12/12/2022 21:52

I’ve never had anything more than a slightly tender arm.

panko · 12/12/2022 21:52

It was so awful for me this year. Other years have been fine. Would do it again though

ShinyPikachu · 12/12/2022 21:52

Slightly sore arm but not as bad as I've had from any of my Covid jags.

darkwinterdays · 12/12/2022 21:53

None, tiny bit of a sore arm.

picklespark · 12/12/2022 21:53

Sometimes I feel a bit tired and get a sore arm, but it really isn't that bad.

And trust me, it's nothing compared to flu. It had me bedbound for 2 weeks the last time I skipped my flu jab a few years back. I had post-viral fatigue for months afterwards.

I know jabs can be nervewracking, but it's just a tiny pinch and all happens very quickly - it will be over before you know it.

RunnyPaint · 12/12/2022 21:54

No noticeable side effects this year. Unless I prodded the injection site really hard...

RiverFlowers · 12/12/2022 21:54

So I have had the flu jabs many times, worst I have had is a sore arm. However I had one on Saturday morning, felt fine until the evening when it was like a switch had been flipped and I had a horrendous headache, sickness, fever (freezing cold and couldn't get warm) and body aches. I honestly felt awful, it lasted all night and most of Sunday morning. By Sunday night I was ok.

It was unexpected as like I said, never had a reaction before but this year I know of far more people who have experienced similar to the above so I don't know if something is different about it this year?

Most likely, you will be fine - at worst, feel like crap for 24 hours.

OoooohMatron · 12/12/2022 21:54

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to postpone so fingers crossed I'll be OK.

I've not had it this year as I felt so dreadful after having it last year. Previous years not had any issues though.

Unsureofitall · 12/12/2022 21:59

I had a really sore and slightly swollen arm for about 4 days. It was so bad that if I rolled onto it at night I was in pain. But apart from that, no other symptoms. Would have it again any day over flu.

Thank you. I'm not bothered by needles it more after effects I'm scared of I'm shit at being ill and getting on with things. I agree though, much better than flu!

That's similar to me. I think they change the strains every year so maybe one of them is particularly nasty.

How long were you ill for afterwards?

I had it on a Monday lunch time Tuesday through to Thursday I felt bad enough I had to work from home (tuesday I really struggled) Friday I managed to go into the office. By the Sunday I was all good could have just been unfortunate timing I guess.

ThinWomansBrain · 12/12/2022 22:06

I've had it annually for about ten years - occasionally a sore arm
one year I felt a bit grotty for maybe 24 hours, but nothing serious

aSpanielintheworks · 12/12/2022 22:08

I reacted really badly to Covid shots and Boosters, but had my first flu jab this winter and had absolutely zero reaction to it. Even my arm only hurt for about an hour.
