For Christmas?

name changed as I’m likely to be ripped to shreds for this one, but AIBU to give my cleaner some John Lewis vouchers for Christmas or should I give cash?

Vouchers for somewhere else JL is expensive

TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 12/12/2022 21:24

cash or could you stretch to a thoughtful gift?

WallabyWay · 12/12/2022 21:24

I'd give cash

girlmom21 · 12/12/2022 21:24

Cash over John Lewis vouchers for sure

Notimeforaname · 12/12/2022 21:24

Cash unless it's a pricey voucher.

IClaudine · 12/12/2022 21:25

Definitely cash.

KatyClair · 12/12/2022 21:25

You’re kind to even give a gift so JL vouchers are a lovely gesture!

Notimeforaname · 12/12/2022 21:25

Itll just look like you gave her some vouchers you didn't want.

Ramble0n · 12/12/2022 21:26

Cash.

BeardieWeirdie · 12/12/2022 21:26

Cash - comparable items of a similar value will cost a hell of a lot more in JL than elsewhere. Your cleaner may be more concerned about paying for food and electricity than getting a nice new set of mugs of perfume.

TheFogsGettingThicker · 12/12/2022 21:26

Really, best just to give cash.

I like John Lewis, and so might they, but it's better to have full choice.

CranberryPecan · 12/12/2022 21:27

CASH!

John Lewis vouchers might be no good for her for whatever reason.

It's just personal taste, really. Someone we know gives DD River Island vouchers every year and she ends up giving them away as we can can never find anything we even slightly like.

Delandra · 12/12/2022 21:27

Definitely cash

OrangeVelour · 12/12/2022 21:27

Why John Lewis vouchers specifically?

TheSmallAssassin · 12/12/2022 21:29

I gave our cleaners some of the vouchers we get as cashback from our John Lewis Partnership card last year and they were pleased with them. I'd have given them some chocolates and a bottle of wine otherwise. It's a bonus to get anything in my book, I don't get a present for anyone else I pay for a service.

mrwalkensir · 12/12/2022 21:29

If she has a Waitrose near her, she might enjoy them...

WillTryNotToBeGrumpy · 12/12/2022 21:29

Cash. Do you have vouchers you want rid of or something?

panko · 12/12/2022 21:30

Cash
Why JL - do you have vouchers you want to offload !

Blowyourowntrumpet · 12/12/2022 21:33

Cash. I got some John Lewis vouchers for my birthday and there's not a single thing I want from there

SO224350 · 12/12/2022 21:35

My uncle gives his cleaner a John Lewis voucher at Christmas. She loves it as she can't afford to shop there and treats herself to something nice, like a pretty cup and saucer or a scarf etc.

Really? They sell almost everything

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 12/12/2022 21:36

Cash. She works for you, for money. If you want to show her your appreciation, give her more money. She's not your mate .

Thisismadness · 12/12/2022 21:38

I’d like either! If vouchers feel more of a present than cash, do you have a local shopping centre that sell vouchers so you can use them in a variety of shops?

I love JL home stuff. Got a new duvet on its way.

Thesedamnflies · 12/12/2022 21:40

Lovely idea but I wouldn’t get them for John Lewis. I think they are so pricey and would grudge spending them on something I could get cheaper elsewhere (even though they were a gift!). Money or vouchers like love to shop or shopping centre ones that can be used in a few places.
