Why did this happen
I felt shaky and weak and I felt I'll

I've showered and taken 2 anhistamines

Doctor fully booked

1 kid had sf last week
Other had tonsilitis
Other had chest infection

Worried

Had you eaten something? Sounds like a possible allergy.

Whattown · 12/12/2022 17:33

Sounds like an allergic reaction - what have you eaten/touched in the hour before this happened?

gamerchick · 12/12/2022 17:34

Yeah you need to go to hospital. Now. Husband developed anaphylaxis from a random thing and it got serious fast.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 12/12/2022 17:35

Yeah. Hospital.

Why take the chance?

stopbeeping · 12/12/2022 17:36

I haven't eaten or touched anything new
Think the antihistamine has worked I was so scared
But why did that happen? Can you suddenly develop an allergy?

OP posts:
Whattown · 12/12/2022 17:37

Yes you can develop an allergy to something which was ok before. Also any soap, lotion etc that you normally use can change its ingredients.

stopbeeping · 12/12/2022 17:37

I've got three kids
Going to see if it calms with the antihistamine
I've got no trouble breathing

We are two mins from the hospital
And I'm with long wet hair I'll freeze if I go there now

I thought it was the flu the way I felt all of a sudden but must be something I touched

Just trying to work out what was on my eyes

Magssss · 12/12/2022 17:38

You can develop an allergy at any age to anything. It sounds almost anaphylactic so I would get allergy testing done asap as a second reaction is sometimes worse. You might need an Epi pen

stopbeeping · 12/12/2022 17:38

Look I'm so shocked

Just came over head to toe in a rash

Yes you can suddenly develope allergies to things you were previously fine with. I know of a few women who had this happen in their 30s/40s

stopbeeping · 12/12/2022 17:39

This was an hour ago as it started to come up

Just came over head to toe in a rash

Do you dye your hair? PPD in hair dye can cause this type of reaction

POTC · 12/12/2022 17:41

You really do need to go to hospital, you don't know what triggered it and they said to my friend the second time is often a worse reaction than the first so gave her an epipen because it could be triggered at any time until they found the cause (bananas, but there were then a few other things randomly caused it)

Whattown · 12/12/2022 17:41

It's a great sign if you have no trouble breathing. I would though write down everything you have touched or eaten in the last hour for future reference. I have a child who suffers from anaphylaxis and the next encounter with said trigger may not be as great, it can get worse each time so please make a note so that if it does happen again you may be able to pin point what it is.

stopbeeping · 12/12/2022 17:41

The antihistamines have def finely worked I feel so much better

So it must be an allergy
Shall I go to my GP to discuss this

It's frightened me

I agree, you need to write down everything you've eaten or touched today. It's really worrying how quickly it came on.

Ponderingwindow · 12/12/2022 17:46

Adult onset allergies can come on quite suddenly.

It’s normal to start asking if you were exposed to anything new, but you can actually have an allergic reaction to something you have used your entire life. Sometimes in retrospect you might be able to say there were some clues, but that isn’t always true.

OneTC · 12/12/2022 17:51

Cold weather urticaria maybe?

Shower definitely won't help. The right antihistamines definitely will

LittleScottieDog · 12/12/2022 17:53

It could be urticaria (disclaimer - I'm not a doctor). I had my first attack one summer's day, starting with severe itching around my hairline which led to hives all over my body that were incredibly itchy.

I was diagnosed with spontaneous and heat-induced urticaria, which have, in the past, taken me to A&E. I've never had any breathing issues though.

I hope you get it sorted. It's not a very nice thing to happen, no matter the cause.

mattyprice4004 · 12/12/2022 17:53

Ring 111 for advice, they’ll signpost you to the correct place

FrostyLadyBoutique · 12/12/2022 17:55

Have you taken a new B vitamin? Niacin (B3) can cause quite an intense flush.

Got2besoon · 12/12/2022 18:11

Reaction to a food eaten today, or to something in the home like a Christmas tree or beauty product?

Apparently getting hot (e.g. a hot shower or bath) isn't advised as it can make an allergic reaction worse. Hope you're OK OP x

Marigoldandivy · 12/12/2022 18:18

Yes, allergies can suddenly come on. One morning years ago I woke up with a face like a balloon. Out of nowhere. Dr prescribed antihistamine and that sorted it out. Hope that’s how it is for you!
