To think Tesco are becoming hellish to shop with?

I tried to go back to in store shopping after constant late deliveries and a rude driver (‘can’t find your fucking house’, it’s on an A road and we’ll marked…), but they removed so many checkouts. There’s a big self serve block, but they are crap. Always weighting wrong, poorly configured compared to elsewhere and not enough staff. Really slow to use. The few manned tills have queues to the middle aisle. Staff are demoralised, the store is functioning badly and understaffed. It takes forever.

Gave delivery a last shot and it’s even worse. First week the guy was late, then stood by the van flicking through the phone after dumping it all on the doorstep. Called out politely to him about the receipt/ substitutes and got blanked. Next week they are three hours late after 11pm, no updates for this. Said hello to the driver and got a dead eye glare back. This week didn’t arrive at all. Fair enough it snowed, but the slot was before it fell. The app didn’t update, no calls. They didn’t let anyone know they weren’t coming, and I saw other vans pass so it was possible they’d come. Roads were okish.

Today I queried the lack of info and was told that stores no longer give drivers phones or use the app updates. Said I may as well cancel the delivery pass if they are going to always be late and never let me know if and when they’ll arrive. They just cancelled the pass mid billing period and replied no further.

Do they not want customers? Is it just my local store? It’s borderline bizarre levels of shit service. I’m obviously a creature of habit to try this far, but I have re-ordered elsewhere.

I haven’t personally had the experience with Tesco so I think it’s your local store. My local store is quite small compared to usual Tesco stores but they haven’t removed any manned tills unlike Morrisons which is now 75% self serve (not that I care, I always use self serve anyway). Online deliveries have always been fine except one time when they didn’t deliver a few things, customer services were really helpful and refunded me straight away though.

I think it must be fairly localised. I find our local Tesco service very good. Very few subs or items unavailable and delivery drivers always very polite, chatty and helpful. However when I used Sainsbury's a few weeks ago ( as I had left it too late to get a delivery slot) three of the items were out of date and the chicken breasts were rancid despite having three more days before use by date. Was more expensive too!

We started using Tesco as it's where I pick DH and DS2 up from after they've been at the football. I hate it. By the time I get to the end of the shop I feel like crying and then they have the stupidest layout for the tills so people end up queuing up aisles and you can't judge the right queue to join. I mentioned to DH that I always feel wrung out by the time we're done and pointed out that the background music is loud, the lights are really bright and the shop layout funnels everyone through pinch points so it feels really crowded. Our local Sainsburys is much better designed and not quite so overwhelming on the senses.
