To complain

I have been having some gastric issues mostly bloating, nausea diarrhoea vomiting.
So couple of nights ago I went all funny after finishing my tea and when I stood up I was dizzy and swaying about I became really unwell my dp was desperately holding onto me and I dropped to the floor and he had to help me up he called 999 and they asked me alot of questions which I struggled with as I was ready to pass out. The call operator then said I don't need an ambulance but somebody will call within the hour.
During this time I passed out several times and lost control of my bowels sorry tmi they called back whilst I had passed out on the toilet to start asking the same questions as before and my dp was pleading with them to just send an ambulance but they refused.
My dp had to break into the bathroom as I had passed out on the toilet and he called a relative who took us to the hospital.
Blood tests showed infection and my blood pressure was 45 over 60 which gradually improved they then sent me home because I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow.
Dp wants to complain what you think pls.

It sounds awful but you've got your colonoscopy tomorrow so hopefully you're on your way to some answers. I wouldn't waste time and energy complaining.

Lemonlady22 · 11/12/2022 19:47

I’m medically trained 45/60 is impossible, 60/45 you would have been near to death, but they sent you home? Did you read that on a machine? if so it was faulty.

Obviously agree with you on 45/60 but 60/45 isn't far off what my blood pressure was when I was in hospital for an ultrasound at 30 weeks pregnant and suddenly felt unwell a few months ago and, whilst they were obviously concerned, I wasn't admitted at all and went home when it went back up.

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 19:50

Lemonlady I'm sure it was but I'm guessing you could be right in that it was 60 over 45

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 19:53

Is 60 over 45 close to death did I hear that correctly

CatchHimDerry · 11/12/2022 19:54

I was in this very same situation one week ago, now awaiting colonoscopy also.

I wouldn’t have dreamed of calling an ambulance, perhaps because I lost a close family member to a heart related event and that was even with a rapid ambulance response. But not quite fast enough…So I’m sensitive to always somebody more in desperate need

I was conscious and knew I’d be triaged accordingly when I got there, which I was.

I got my mother to take me and she kindly stayed the entire 18 hours of my stay with me

The poor NHS staff are stretched to their limits at the moment but I couldn’t fault the care. Drips, countless blood tests, CT scan and now referred

Service may be lacking a little at the moment but i do believe they do their very best, at least they do where I am in S. Wales

If you're being dramatic then yes, sort of, but, if it goes back up then it goes back up. It went back up so don't dwell on it. If it stayed that low then you may die but it didn't and wouldn't. You weren't well and your blood pressure indicated that - it's somewhat more of a concern if your blood pressure is low and that's normal for you.

What happened exactly

OP posts:

I suffer from high blood pressure I'm diabetic and I take hypertension medication so way unusual for me

I'm not sure why you posted or why you pretended it's your partner who wants to complain. You're arguing with everybody and clearly you're going to complain.

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 20:02

Why so hostile I'm not arguing with anybody but clearly your up for a argument with me I'm having a simple discussion fgs.

I suggest you go off on another thread because your clearly not a very nice person.

CarefreeMe · 11/12/2022 20:05

Yes I would complain.

If you had passed out several times, emptied your bowels and was unresponsive whilst DH was on the phone then I think they’d send an ambulance out immediately.

I’m not one for complaining usually but I do think this warrants it and hopefully the call handler will receive extra training.

Thedoglovesmemore · 11/12/2022 20:05

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 19:35

Well they can't tell what's wrong with somebody for sure without physically seeing them in person so no wonder people are misdiagnosed and end up dying.

You were seen!
this was a transport issue. Not everyone ill can be transported by ambulance so they are reserved for people who need immediate life saving treatment at the scene or where time is absolutely critical like a heart attack.

I do think this kind of expectation fuels the crisis further OP.

CatchHimDerry · 11/12/2022 20:06

@Anotherproblem to me?

Very similar to your situation.

Lack of bowel control, keeled over presumably due to loss of fluids etc.
It had gone on for a few days. By day 3 when I carted myself off to A&E it was every 10 minutes passing just blood and other unpleasantness. And not small amounts either.

They did regular BP checks, ECG as heart rate was high, blood work, three drips, urine test and finally a CT scan which showed severe inflammation

Strangely the bloods weren’t really abnormal.

Referred for colonoscopy. Additional bloods and stools for calprotectin done at GP

The end result will, we think, be either an ancute infection or an IBD eg Crohns / Colitis. Hoping not but at least I’ll know I suppose

I am 33 for reference

Wishing you well OP it’s not fun xx

Notimeforaname · 11/12/2022 20:11

Complaining won't do anything. There are simply not enough ambulances to go around so you made alternative arrangements. Glad you're feeling better.

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 20:11

CatchHimDerry
Have you had a fit test mine showed blood hence the colonoscopy that was before this episode.

OP posts:
CatchHimDerry · 11/12/2022 20:11

Oh yes I was given antibiotics in case infection caused by a pathogen or C.diff or some other such nasty

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 20:11

I am 52 by the way

OP posts:
CatchHimDerry · 11/12/2022 20:15

@Anotherproblem not sure if they’ve done FIT test, I’d hazard a guess not necessary given the volume of bleeding. Wouldn’t need test to see it! I also took them lovely grim photographs

Ive had small amounts of bleeding for years but apparently could be a different issue believe it or not eg haemorrhoids or something

Or could be linked, won’t know more until colonoscopy as they take biopsies then

CourtneeLuv · 11/12/2022 20:18

I wouldn't complain. The NHS is fucked. Why didn't he take you in a taxi or get a relative to take you straight away? And why lock the bathroom door?

Anotherproblem · 11/12/2022 20:21

CourtneeLuv
Yes he asked my brother to take me and think I locked the door because I was embarrassed with the bowel issue also I wasn't all together with it

Complain. Doesn't matter if people think it's pointless, you have every right. The Tories have destroyed this country yet people still support them.

CatchHimDerry · 11/12/2022 20:46

@Anotherproblem no, I wouldn’t say I have that

They were looking for weight loss amongst other things too, which I also don’t have

But then everyone is different aren’t they

They'll know more from your colonoscopy, did you say it’s tomorrow?

Best of luck if so! I’m nervous for mine but I’m sure we’ll be fine

I suffer from high blood pressure I'm diabetic and I take hypertension medication so way unusual for me

Unfortunately, when you have hypertension controlled by medication, one of the things that can happen is that your BP goes a bit crazy when you get ill- especially if there's vomiting or diarrhoea.

When BP drops suddenly, it feels wretched and your body will often jettison whatever's in the digestive system because it needs to focus its energy elsewhere-- usually on getting blood around your body.

But it came back up and you took away some useful tips in case it happens again.
