I really hate the words ‘teaming’ and ‘pairing’ - as in ‘I am teaming this hat with these gloves’ or ‘She paired the silk blouse with the red skirt’. Just fuck off.

It’s like nails down a blackboard for me 🤣

The word "treat", I just find it so annoying. I have no idea why. Calling things like McDonalds, and junk food that word. Grrr

Yes! A few parents I know will say to their kids "do this and you can have a treat" meaning a cake or chocolate bar and the word treat just goes through me for some reason 😂

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/12/2022 14:46

Panties - it’s infantile and creepy

And sounds like a little girl word. There's a phrase in a Kathy Reichs book, where she is getting dressed and 'adjusting my panties.' Such a stupid way of phrasing it.

welshpolarbear · 11/12/2022 14:46

Simples.

It's awful! Someone can be making a really good point then will end it with simples and I just want to slap them! I hate it so much!

Cuddlywuddlies · 11/12/2022 14:50

I don’t have many but these drive me nuts!!😆

-“Triggered”or “trigger warning”
-basic/ basically

Moorish (when said in relation to food) - gah. I associate it with greed as my sil once sat eating an entire tray of brownies, refusing to offer any to others, and said “sorry I couldn’t help myself, they were so moorish.”

It's more-ish, which makes more sense. I suppose it's okay if you share but not if you scoff the lot.

ortonym · 11/12/2022 15:04

"of" instead of "have" or "'ve", as in could of, should of, would of, etc, really gets my hackles up.
Also, not the words but the way they're delivered: people who end the sentence at a higher pitch than they started it. It sounds like either a question or someone talking down to you. Clive Myrie is the most annoying and whenever he's on the news I have to change the channel or switch off.

PriamFarrl · 11/12/2022 15:04

I agree with the misuse of ‘staycation’. It means to stay in your house but behave like you are on holiday. Then it became people staying in the U.K. thereby implying that all the people who have had perfectly lovely holidays in the U.K. haven’t actually been on holiday.

PriamFarrl · 11/12/2022 15:06

Brought for bought.
Cause for because.

I dislike "sip" as a verb (noun is provisionally OK). Not dependent on the specific usage; I just don't like it.

Also currently hating: "enjoy" in placed of get, receive, watch, eat, use, consume. "Enjoy three free full-length films on us, when you sign up for one year ..." Fuck off; you can't know if I'll enjoy them.

... kiddies ... "You kiddies have crumpled the serviettes, and I must have things daintily served." - John Betjeman

Bubbly (to describe someone’s personality)
Galore

Fairislefandango · 11/12/2022 15:19

Moorish (when said in relation to food)

I think you mean moreish Grin.
Moorish means 'of or pertaining to the North African Muslim people who used to rule Spain'!

WhatTheFlap · 11/12/2022 15:21

I hate when people use “cross” as an emotion, really cringes me out 😂

Whatatimetobealivetoday · 11/12/2022 15:23

I hate the word “cross” for when someone is annoyed or angry. It makes me cringe, it’s so tame.

Just let loose and tell us you were raging, let it all out 😂😂

KimberleyClark · 11/12/2022 15:25

Mama when used about oneself.

switswoo81 · 11/12/2022 15:26

Grim .. although have never heard it used in real life. It's the most passive agressive self congratulating word ever.

blubberyboo · 11/12/2022 15:27

“Authentic self”

CanofCant · 11/12/2022 15:29

Utterly.

The word "treat", I just find it so annoying. I have no idea why. Calling things like McDonalds, and junk food that word. Grrr

I've never come across someone who tho is this in real life.
The word 'treat' is the WORST.

'I treated DS and gave him a few chocolate buttons'
'I'm going to treat my DD to an apple juice with breakfast today'

Ooooo woooowwww

Using the word 'treat' normally means giving your child some kind of food variation that they really don't give a shit about and would much rather carry on with what they're doing 😂
