Soluble cocodamol and fresh milkshakes (or just milk) are your friend.

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/12/2022 21:46

Sympathies @cookiemonst I had similar earlier in the week - could see red blisters in my throat but no pus/sign of infection.

It's been coupled with an awful chesty cough/phlegm on my chest😔

I used throat spray and lozenges to help plus pretty much constant sipping of water.

Throat has eased now but chest is still bad.

Hope you feel better soon!

That’s the first sign of Strep throat for me. I think you need a swab and antibiotics.

Comtesse · 10/12/2022 21:49

Fever and white spots on tonsils (with no cough) is quite likely to be tonsillitis. Out of hours gp a possibility? Could do with antibiotics…

Crayfishforyou · 10/12/2022 21:50

When I had an unbearably sore throat ice was the only thing that soothed it at all

froufroulala · 10/12/2022 21:50

Partner had similar, unable to take in fluids. Turned out to be quinsy.

HyggeandTea · 10/12/2022 21:55

Bless you.
McDonalds style milkshakes will be your saviour. Soothing coldness and some calories. (some of those shops have the ice-cream milkshake machines now).
Definitely gargle with warm salt water as often as you can.
Paracetamol and ibuprofen at max dose if you can take them (but not more).
Sip water or tea.
Doctor if worsening or not improving after a few days, if you have trouble swallowing saliva, continued high temp, white patches or streaks of pus or tiny red spots on throat/roof of mouth.
Hope you are on the mend x

merrymelodies · 10/12/2022 22:00

Ooo! Sounds like it could be strep. Best to get tested.🤞

OrlaCarmichael · 10/12/2022 22:02

I had this last month, the pain was indescribable, and, as pps have said, I had to brace myself before swallowing. Had fever and head sweats etc which is rare for me.

Tried all sorts but only turned a corner when I tried sage and honey - sage from my mother’s garden and honey made into a hot drink

KillingLoneliness · 10/12/2022 22:37

My throat is like this today, had a fever in the night a couple of days ago, tonsils are a little enlarged but no puss.
My daughter has had a cold, sore throat. She had a fever last Saturday but cleared up by Sunday, she is still sniffly and not developed a rash at all. Could it still be strep a?

userxx · 10/12/2022 22:40

Ibuprofen and rest.

MyHobbyIsDogging · 10/12/2022 22:42

Oh God, poor you, OP. I was like this with Covid - I spend four days spitting into a tissue so as not to try to swallow. It was like swallowing a thousand razor blades. All you can do at this point is remember that every minute of it hurting that much is another minute ticked off. It will end at some point, and you just have to count the minutes until then.

Kidsaregrim · 10/12/2022 22:42

I had this recently, throat swab negative, 2 lots of antibiotics done nothing, went for a blood test for glandular fever but they took the wrong blood test 😡then a family member gave me a naproxen and the pain relief was amazing! After two days it was gone!

cookiemonst · 11/12/2022 20:13

I was seen this morning by an out of hours GP. I rang 111 at 5 pm Friday and they rang me back at 5 am Sunday.

Doc confirmed white spots and prescribed penicillin.

Now I'm wondering if I have strep a ? Not necessarily ? Like I said my kids have both had high fevers this week and are both on antibiotics. We don't know if their throats are affected as they wouldn't open their mouths for the doctor to look. ( welll, the baby did and doc said swollen tonsils ).

Anyway, they got sick first and I guess they've passed it onto me, but I can't help but worry I'm going to pass something on to them? That's just silly, right ? DD got sick Monday and DS got sick Thursday. I got sick Friday. I hope my babies will be OK. It's been a rough month.
