It's amazing what people will do when offered a huge amount of money.

Okaaaaay then. So in episode 3, Harry says

"It's amazing what people will do when offered a huge amount of money to sell photos and a story". This was in reference to Thomas Markle agreeing to have photos taken of himself by the papers, looking excited about and preparing for the wedding, for which he was paid.

AIBU to wonder what Thomas Markle did wrong? I thought he looked nice in the photos? The money was probably helpful for him given we are not all multimillionaires. Not sure what he did wrong? What was so bad?

Also, how is what Thomas Markle did worse than what H&M are doing by selling their life story, videos and pictures to every media outlet going for considerably more money than Thomas Markle got? Plus, H&M are managing to put down their entire family, and the UK, in the process.

Harry, when you said "It's amazing what people will do when offered a huge amount of money to sell photos and a story", did you forget that you said this while accepting $100,000 for selling your photo, and your story to netflix? And also selling family photos and stories about your family and country without their consent, for a netflix deal?

It’s funny that H and M have been so careful about protecting their childrens images up to now, but apparently the documentary is peppered with photos and videos of them . Hmm, wonder how they worked that out, knowing that images in the film will now be in the public domain for ever. Is there a sliding scale they agreed with Netflix, £10,000 for a photo, £100,000 for a video…….

It’s another example of their doublethink.

plinkypots · 09/12/2022 13:11

He doesn't seem all that bright and fairly naive. She just seems damaged. It's all a bit sad really. I'm not sure exactly what they will do once they've sold their story. There's only so many times anyone will want to hear this.

Vinvertebrate · 09/12/2022 13:16

If Harry was complaining about the ridiculousness of hereditary privilege, he’d have my full support. He’s actually just pissed off that he can’t be king.

Vinvertebrate · 09/12/2022 13:17

Exactly @viques and compare that to all the hoo ha over Archie’s birthday. It’s clear they just didn’t want to share information about their children for free.

I'm not going to watch but did he say that with a straight face? Having monetised his entire existence?! Hilarious

Quite, blatant hypocrisy from them both. I wish they'd shut up already and go and lives the private lives they obviously don't really want.

Viviennemary · 09/12/2022 13:22

I hope this means they wont be present at the coronation.

sweetgingercat · 09/12/2022 13:25

The only thing interesting about that doco was David Olusega and that other woman talking about inequality and the commonwealth as empire 2.0. The rest of it was self obsessed whining trash. It’s a great shame they didn’t use their influence more wisely. Now they have used it up.

Ponoka7 · 09/12/2022 13:26

Thomas set up paparazzi shots. Meghan and Harry thought that he was being harrased (as her other family members were) and asked the press to back off and got those higher involved in protecting Thomas, they were made fools of. He was selling exclusive stories on Meghan, the wedding and promising inside stories on Buckingham palace. When Meghan was being attacked by the press, Thomas was still promising them interviews and sharing private letters, telephone calls, arrangements etc. He's since tried to hold Meghan to ransom. So in H&M minds, even your own parent would sell you down the river if offered enough.

Alopeciabop · 09/12/2022 13:29

Yes why is it so ridiculous to curtesy to the queen of a country? When she’s visiting other countries she surely bows/curtsies/handshakes/nose rubs/whatever salutation without scoffing.
or is it only the UK which deserves to be mocked?

Plus all that talk of “I didn’t know who he was nor did I care” - well in this very documentary all her friends and her mum said that when she called them to tell them she was in love with this guy she led with “IM DATING PRINCE HARRY!” ……hmmmmm

everyone has toughness in their lives. Them too. Everyone has the right to tell their story. But theirs is told unrelenting, over and over and over again, in a way designed to best hurt his family, without thought to how seriously lucky they are in most ways, oh and yes, whilst branding us all racist in the process.

not cool.

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 09/12/2022 13:30

I haven’t watched this, but I have heard and read bits about it. Meghan is critical about being unprepared to meet the queen, Fergie having to teach her to curtsy and having to Google God Save the Queen….who is she blaming for this? Because surely it was Harry’s responsibility to prepare her?! These two seem to feel quite sorry for themselves. However, the tabloid press is horrific to them and others so I completely understand that part of things.

TidyDancer · 09/12/2022 13:34

Yeah I noticed this. Even the most die hard fans must realise how blatantly hypocritical that statement was.

No matter what anyone feels about them, they are massively removed from reality and lack any credibility whatsoever given the well documented and disproved lies they have spouted before.

I think the pair of them are arrogant and vacuous enough to think they just have to tack the word 'truth' onto anything and people will swallow and believe the lot. Clearly not. Even the most sympathetic of presenters/commentators seem weary of it now and struggling to come up with anything positive.

OrraBoralis · 09/12/2022 12:33

It's her doing that over dramatic curtsey that finished me. What a disgrace. This was filmed before The Queen had died, she thought it was amusing, I'm not sure many others did especially Harry.
She needs to go away, they need to go away. I am over saturated with the beggy bastards.

If you're over saturated with them you could just, you know, stop seeking them out....

Aussiegirl123456 · 09/12/2022 13:50

I don’t know much about the royals, harry and Megan etc. But the irony isn’t lost on me. Megan criticises her father for taking money from the press and selling his story about her, claims she’s hurt etc. Yet this is exactly what her and harry have done to their families? Rather than keep a dignified silence, she’s slipped to his level. Hypocritical.

PrincessScarlett · 09/12/2022 14:02

Thomas Markle didn't just pose for photos. He was in the tabloids endlessly selling stories on his daughter and I believe the final straw for Meghan was when he published a deeply private letter from her to him.

Although Harry is hypocritical calling out others for selling stories when surely that is exactly what they are doing. Even if it's the truth.

Onnabugeisha · 09/12/2022 14:03

Cheeseandhoney · 09/12/2022 12:49

I honestly can’t believe how much harry and Meghan have sold, their childhoods, their relationship, the, proposal, text messages, private family info, info and images of their kids, I mean they have literally sold all their privacy, and that of those around them, to the highest bidder. And clearly always intended to, as they were videoing it from the start.

it’s shocking they have nothing left, they have sold it all. From a couple who declared ro want privacy, it now looks like they just wanted to keep it private to sell to the highest bidder.

but they judge others for doing a tenth of what they are doing.

they haven’t sold their privacy, they sold a carefully curated and heavily edited version that shows what they think are their best selves.

Travis1 · 09/12/2022 14:03

TodayIsFridayHooray · 09/12/2022 12:39

Oh yes, I wasn't keen on that curtsey bit either! Megan looked very proud of her own joke and her put down of years old royal tradition. Well done her. Great she's informed the UK how ridiculous our long held traditions are. Thanks Megan, what a saviour.

She’s not wrong curtsy’s are a fucking ridiculous tradition and again just aim to put the ‘little people’ in their place. Whole royal family need to fuck off to fuck.

BigglyBee · 09/12/2022 14:05

The thing is, we all have the power to stop the circus. All we have to do is to collectively stop watching. Don't read stories about them. Don't buy books written by or about them. Just ignore them.
This stuff is only everywhere (apparently, I've only seen it here, really) because people pay attention to it. Removing the demand for it would stop the supply.

Onnabugeisha · 09/12/2022 14:06

And I agree OP pure hypocrisy and breathtaking entitlement.

Honestly I'm not even remotely interested in whether it's the truth or not.

They are ultra privileged and tone deaf. They are hypocritical.
They are so far removed from reality that anything they have to say is utterly irrelevant.

To say that Brexit was motivated by racism as an American? Erm wtf. I'm as pro EU as it gets but seriously that's not reflective of concerns at ground level.

People voted for Brexit often because they were disaffected by the established government at the time. Or because of bin collections and pot holes! That's what the actual research shows.

But nope these two know better. Cos obviously they went out and canvased people and know what people on the street think.

Honestly some of it is xenophobic nonsense from Megan who hates British culture and some of it is from a man with a massive chip on his shoulder. Rightly or wrongly.

They now define themselves as martyrs rather than establishing their own lives. They can't do anything without having a swipe at others. That just bitter

They could be so much more positive and do good if they want. It's an active choice to make all this personal and have a go at the country that they don't want to live in anyway.

I’m not watching it on Netflix. I’ll read free news reports about it but I’ve decided that since my clicking on their reality TV show about themselves = money in the bank for I’m not doing it. It’s a money grab and they think they’re entitled to our money because they’re famous.

No Hate Watching! That’s me and my friends’ decision on the H&M mockumentary

RedToothBrush · 09/12/2022 14:11

Fwiw I'm deliberately avoiding the circus click bait.

I only clicked on this thread cos I thought it was going to be about traitors.

I'm utterly sick of the whole sorry me me me show taking up news minutes and column inches.

It just allows for news to be buried which actually affects the general public whilst this pair of dead cats feed their egos.

She was surprised that the facade we see, is the same behind closed doors. She didn't realise that when the great grandchildren visited, they had to curtsey before they were acknowledged. It doesn't surprise anyone of my generation because we see the clips of the Queen shaking hands with her very small children after being away for weeks.

Tell that to the newspapers. They're the ones that turned it into a circus.
