To ask how you are supposed to clean a toilet…

ProserpinaProserpina · 09/12/2022 10:32

Without a toilet brush?!

(NOT A POO TROLL! Long time member, name change a plenty though)

I get that in your own home, you can use gloves/cloths etc. But in public toilets/other people’s houses, how on earth are you supposed to clean up after yourself without a brush? It’s wildly obvious if you go into a toilet in a small cafe or something that it was you who left the mess!

And no, not pooing outside of your own home ever is not a sensible decision.

a small strip of tissue, maybe 4 four bits? folded in half in the toilet on the rim at the front, should work.

Or there's bleach in there, that always works.

newtb · 09/12/2022 15:39

Go and live in France where the vast majority of loos in cafés restaurants etc have a brush in each cubicle.

HairyMcLarie · 09/12/2022 11:28

This. A long sheet folded and placed atop the water and kind of down the front/back of pan.
Masks a sploosh too in cubicles. Doesn't block.
Christ what has my life come to that I'm offering this advice on a public forum..Grin

Oh that has made me laugh

IneedanewTV · 09/12/2022 15:42

Re limescale. I thought on MN the toilet just goes in the dishwasher weekly?

Tiredallofthetime · 09/12/2022 15:44

Not sure if toilet roll in the toilet works, it goes down the toilet surely and the loo brush is generally for when someone accidentally hits the sides.

LeakyTapTap · 09/12/2022 15:47

A couple of squares down the lav first helps stop blood pooling too, if you're on the rag.

Spenn · 09/12/2022 15:52

I've never left a skidder Confused how are people missing the water? Never had a loo brush either Envy

DemBonesDemBones · 09/12/2022 15:54

I don't own a loo brush they give me the heebies. I also never poo anywhere but my own house, never have-I assumed that was normal?!

Northernsoullover · 09/12/2022 15:56

Bleach dissolves skidders. Before anyone says it just bleaches it my rental sage green toilet says otherwise.

I bought a multipack of kitchen scrubbing brushes 10 for £4.99, I carry a clean unused one around with me to deal with such scenarios and just bin it after the event.

Do you carry them about in public?

What do you do if the bathroom doesn't have a suitable bin to get rid of them?

I have IBS and very rarely have to poo away from home but when I do it can be a bit messy. I was mortified when I left skid marks in the pub toilet recently, and even more mortified that the basement toilets weren't adequately ventilated (not Spoons a small local pub) so the smell lingered.

(I had intended to go home for my poo and then come back but my sister said I was being ridiculous)

Squamata · 09/12/2022 16:28

If there's no loo brush then I don't use a loo brush. They don't know it's your skid, could be a previous occupant's. I'm not pissing about with protective loo roll layers.

Wipe/scrub the mess away with a scrunched up wad of loo roll, wadded thickly enough that nothing can get through the loo roll to your ungloved hand. Flush and repeat if necessary. Obviously still wash hands extra thoroughly afterwards.

There is absolutely no way I’m doing this in a public toilet. I’ve been in far too many public toilets which have run out of soap to be putting my hands down there.

It’s unfortunate if you do leave skid marks but there’s nothing sensible you can do about it if there’s no loo brush.

As far as smell goes, could you carry a V.I.Poo spray with you?

I do this toođŸ¤£â€¦ it also stops splash back from gross toilet water … nothing more violating than the toilet bowl water coming back up and splashing you right in the bum hole đŸ¤¢

YorkshireLondonMiss · 09/12/2022 18:45

The brush in our work toilets is so gross I wouldn’t touch it!!! Think it adds more ahem…deposits…than it removes…

PrincessofWellies · 09/12/2022 12:51

You can get a device that you drop in the cistern and it prevents limescale forming. I use them in all my rentals, I spent hours getting limescale off toilets before using these. They work the same way as a sacrificial annode on a boat!

Interesting. Do you remember what are they called?

PrincessofWellies · 09/12/2022 19:20

Magnoloo

This is savage feral behaviour to just leave it.
Wipe it with a bit of toilet roll, job done.

SantaBakula · 09/12/2022 19:33

Flushing the loo first or chucking a cup/ jug ( while in someone else's house) of water down helps, wet all the porcelain as wet porcelain is ummm slippery

Daddydog · 09/12/2022 20:22

Great thread! A roommate at uni used to keep an old water bottle next to the toilet. Filled it with hot water from the tap and just pour it down the toilet. Job done - Genius!

I'm a strictly non public person myself - but I do feel most people would be if they didn't have a choice. I'm sure everyone would prefer to do it at home... But if people don't have a choice it's going to be an extinction-level event! In the North Africa/Middle East/India (where it's perminantly Defcon 1) you always get the water bidet hose which does the trick at also cleaning the toilet. Well that's what I thought it was for until you realise after sampling streetfood how pointless toilet paper is. Those would be perfect in UK.

Toilets in UAE airports use warm water to flush which means toilets are sparkly clean! I found this out after perminantly loosing the ability to eat dairy gluten in India and had the pleasure of test driving at 20 of them at Dubai International....such decadence!

Mine actually flushes. It has a handle and everything.

NEmama · 09/12/2022 23:36

Wtf wiping with loo roll.
Full skids under the water. I'm not putting my hand in . Fuck that

I run a cleaning business and you'll be surprised at just how many people don't own a loo brush. Sometimes there's nothing I can do other than to put loo cleaner down and leave it.

Oh no! I’m now worrying about what my cleaner thinks about me as I don’t have a toilet brush! Well, I do have one of the Toilet Brush ones which uses a paper wad thingy but those are kept in my under sink cupboard and the cleaner doesn’t use any!

But I don’t leave skid marks, any that appear are wiped away immediately and I always chuck bleach down the toilet overnight when the cleaner is due. Hopefully she is not telling the neighbours what a dirty bugger I am for not having a traditional toilet brush!

doorheckk · 10/12/2022 00:32

people wipe skids away by putting their hand in the water?!
