To say tea was nicer with spaghetti (light hearted)

Scousemarsh · 08/12/2022 18:37

So today i cooked tea for me and the wife (im a bloke by the way). I did meatballs in a tomato type sauce all from scratch. I used a pack of supermarket spaghetti. She was full of praise when we ate (it was bloody lovely to be fair). When i said it was nicer with the spaghetti i grabbed with the rest of the ingredients i picked up on the way home from work instead of the pasta twists already in the cupboard she looked at me as if i was insane and said its exactly the same. I insist it is not. Who is right ?

I love all shapes of pasta but meatballs and Bolognese need to be eaten with spaghetti! It's a different mouth feel than chunky pasta twists or tubes

SouthwarkSwish · 08/12/2022 18:39

Not sure about the spaghetti, but you're v v v unreasonable for referring to her as 'the wife'

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/12/2022 18:40

You are 100% right that different pastas taste different, and one can be nicer than another with a particular sauce.

Italians would be very definite about which sauces go with which pasta shapes.

I might be wrong but I don’t think spaghetti is actually the traditional vehicle for meat based sauces, but other than that yanbu.

Merryoldgoat · 08/12/2022 18:40

They type of pasta is a game changer. I don’t like fusilli (twists).

Spaghetti or penne 👌🏾

lookersnoopy · 08/12/2022 18:40

It's not the same at all. I only eat fusili or spaghetti. Any other shape is a no!

Fairislefandango · 08/12/2022 18:40

It's a bit different texture-wise, but obviously it tastes the same, as it's literally the same stuff but in a different shape.

This 🤣

unpocamasporfavor · 08/12/2022 18:42

Of course it tastes better! Spaghetti is my favourite pasta by far. I know that it's just the same stuff in a different shape, but I don't care. Spaghetti is the best.

Mrsjayy · 08/12/2022 18:43

I don't like pasta twists with a tomato sauce and definitely not with meatballs spaghetti everything.

Absolutely agree with this. It's a horrible term!

And of course different shaped pastas don't taste different, but they do change the whole experience of the dish. Spaghetti is traditional with meatballs, so you were right there.

SouthwarkSwish and Testina. Im slightly overwieght. She calls me Chubby Hubby

I like tagliatelle too, bit thicker than spaghetti. Or fusilli. Penne is sooooo dull.

I don't know why but the type of pasta makes all the difference to me!

Merryoldgoat · 08/12/2022 18:45

Ffs. I need pasta now.

MzHz · 08/12/2022 18:47

Bolognese I think is supposed to be served with linguine or pappardelle , but yes way prefer spaghetti to fusilli, but sometimes if you’re gluten free it’s easier to get fusilli

not in holiday in Italy of course, the range of gluten free is amazing!

MandyMotherOfBrian · 08/12/2022 18:47

Gawd no, fusilli is most certainly not the same as spaghetti when it comes to meatballs. You’ve married a wrong-un there I’m afraid.

catsonahottinroof · 08/12/2022 18:47

I agree everyone has a preference for certain types of pasta. It doesn't actually taste better, it must just be the overall texture or something. In our house, 3 out of 4 people prefer penne with bolognese sauce.
The only dish I really prefer spaghetti with is carbonara, but I do like spaghetti. My favourites are penne and shells.

SirenSays · 08/12/2022 18:47

Makes no difference to me at all, but then spaghetti and meatballs would be the last meal I'd ever choose to eat

ouch321 · 08/12/2022 18:48

Spaghetti is more likely to get splashes of sauce flying around so I like it less for that reason.

reallyhatewinter · 08/12/2022 18:48

Spaghetti or linguine for me every single time. It also uses more calories twisting the fork so much!! 😂
My DH refers to me as 'the Witch', so 'the wife' really doesn't bother me!
Before anyone starts - he's joking when he says it. I know this - he knows it - it's banter.

Why????

Scurryfunge12 · 08/12/2022 18:51

Spaghetti is more trouble than it’s worth to eat 🤣 I’d chose fusilli or penne over spaghetti for any pasta dish.

Should’ve gone with “the old ball and chain”

Anyway, I like pasta twists best with meatballs…

It isn't Bolognese, it's marinara sauce and meatballs. I think it's definitely better with spaghetti.

I have a wide range of pasta preferences. We usually have linguine, tagliatelle, penne, macaroni and orzo in the cupboard - and spiralli or fusilli if the teen's been to the shops.

orangegato · 08/12/2022 19:02

Am I the only animal that mixes pasta shapes together in one dish, so penne/fusilli for instance.
