To say tea was nicer with spaghetti (light hearted)

Scousemarsh · 08/12/2022 18:37

So today i cooked tea for me and the wife (im a bloke by the way). I did meatballs in a tomato type sauce all from scratch. I used a pack of supermarket spaghetti. She was full of praise when we ate (it was bloody lovely to be fair). When i said it was nicer with the spaghetti i grabbed with the rest of the ingredients i picked up on the way home from work instead of the pasta twists already in the cupboard she looked at me as if i was insane and said its exactly the same. I insist it is not. Who is right ?

Spaghetti or linguine for me every single time. It also uses more calories twisting the fork so much!! 😂
My DH refers to me as 'the Witch', so 'the wife' really doesn't bother me!
Before anyone starts - he's joking when he says it. I know this - he knows it - it's banter.

Mine calls me ‘Feral Witch’.

I had it put on a t-shirt 😂😂😂

Peashoots · 08/12/2022 19:03

Take no notice of the people looking to be offended on your wife’s behalf 😆 I would give a toss if my husband called me the wife. I’m sure I’ve called him worse 😂
also YANBU the shape of pasta has to match the meal! Spaghetti and meatballs is the perfect combo 👌🏻

Scousemarsh · 08/12/2022 19:06

90% agreeing with me. I might show her this...
Anyway, on the subject of me calling her the wife, she is in my phone contacts as A Fat Ass Wife.
Im in hers as Chubby Hubby. We are both only slightly overwieght. Those are not nicknames we call each other but refer to times other people have called us similar.

Yep, it should be spaghetti. No-one ever sang

"On top of fusili, all covered in cheese
I lost my poor meatball, when somebody sneezed..."

HerRoyalNotness · 08/12/2022 19:07

I can’t stand spaghetti. But will use fettuccine. Not sure what it is as yes they taste the same, but just don’t like it

MamaBearHare · 08/12/2022 19:10

If you are real about calling each other those names, then surely you shouldn't be advertising the fact you ARE EATING CARBS.

On Mumsnet.

Christ, people get to the real issue in this thread?

mrsbyers · 08/12/2022 19:12

I think it all tastes the same but the right pasta does enhance the experience

my husband insists certain pastas taste better though and doesn’t like twists or shells

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/12/2022 19:15

Nooo I don't like spaghetti and much prefer meatballs and bolognese with pasta shapes.

MrsClatterbuck · 08/12/2022 19:15

Was once in an Italian restaurant in Montreal and you picked the pasta and then the sauce. The waiter then advised I had picked the wrong pasta for my sauce and then explained why. He then made some recommendations. don't remember the explanation sorry

I usually have tagliatelle or linguine with meatballs or bolognese. Dh doesn't like pappardelle.
I use penne for a pasta bake.

Swissnotswiss · 08/12/2022 19:22

I've lived in Italy for over 20 years and, as a result, I'm very particular about what type of pasta I eat. I always make spaghetti with meatballs - and Italian DH complains because it's not an Italian dish. 😄

Not sure about the spaghetti, but you're v v v unreasonable for referring to her as 'the wife'

Really? Do get a grip.

Tothemoonandbackx · 08/12/2022 21:50

I make lasagna with tagliatelle
Meatballs in Cannelloni tubes
Macaroni Carbonara........

I'd say the list is endless, but that's all I could think of off the top of my head (all jokes btw) 😄

Blueeyedgirl21 · 08/12/2022 21:52

I have to have farfalle (bows), penne (tubes), spaghetti (noodly noodles) or tagliatelle (chunky noodles)

twists are grim

Tuichi · 08/12/2022 21:57

There was a good thread on here a few months ago which ranked pasta shapes - amazing, good, shit. Complicated by the fact it does depend on the sauce.

catsonahottinroof · 08/12/2022 22:04

@Tothemoonandbackx I thought you were serious, and those combinations actually sound nice, except the meatballs inside the cannelloni would have to be tiny.
@Blueeyedgirl21 agree about fusilli but thanks for reminding me about farfalle - I love it! (though for some reason only in cold pasta salad or with pesto pasta).

Peashoots · 08/12/2022 22:11

Am I the only one who doesn’t mind the twists?! Wouldn’t be my first choice but deffo edible!

MzHz · 08/12/2022 22:44

Anonymous48 · 08/12/2022 18:49

Fusilli? I really like them. Fusilli with tuna is popular in this house. Also creamy salmon sauce and tomato and mozzarella.

Choccolatte · 08/12/2022 23:01

My DH asks the DC of they want "pasta or spaghetti" for dinner. In his ignorant head Pasta is any shape other than spaghetti. They are now teenagers and don't believe me that spaghetti is pasta.
OP your wife is very, very wrong. As is my simple husband.

FirewomanSam · 08/12/2022 23:03

YABU for not using linguine.

SirenSays · 08/12/2022 23:05

MzHz · 08/12/2022 22:44

awww probably can’t cook good ones 😉

Just find it really boring.
Haha you're right I probably can't. I haven't made it since I was a broke student many years ago and no plans to make it again although I'm struggling to see what the difficult part would be 😂

phoenixrosehere · 08/12/2022 23:16

If you prefer spaghetti with the meatballs and tomato sauce, I’d recommend giving bucatini a try.

I think it easily trumps spaghetti.

CherryLongIsland · 08/12/2022 23:20

I don't really like spaghetti or linguine or tagliatelle they feel a bit weird in my mouth unless I cut it up really small which is frowned upon.
Penne is my favourite.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/12/2022 23:29

I like one I can never remember the name of. Fusilli bucati from a quick Google. Like little springs.

I think spaghetti goes well with meatballs, I just have a tendency to get tomato sauce all over the tablecloth... I'm safer with smaller shapes!
