AIBU?

Employer just told staff my previous salary

I am fuming.

I have just received an email which has been written by my line manager.

He has disclosed to two members of staff my salary at my previous employer and my location where I live.

I have just sent an email saying “ I do not consent to my home location or salary information being shared with staff or third parties’

Do you think this is very rude.

Completely depends who the staff members are.

Are you new to this company and who were the members of staff?

Report
RandomPerson42 · 08/12/2022 14:56

It does depend, surely several people at your place of work know yours and everyone elses salary if they are involved in company finances.

If it’s HR or payroll then YABU. I can’t see who else would need to know though so anyone else you are probably NBU.

Hugasauras · 08/12/2022 14:57

Impossible to say based off that info. Colleagues who have no reason to know, YANBU. HR, YABU.

Well that's a bit late, it's already been done.

I doubt they'd have noticed until you flagged it up.

Sorry , it has been given out to the marketing team who create CVS to give to potential clients . This just show cases what projects you have worked on etc .

I would be questioning their internal GDPR policies and would consider sharing of home address a breach as it's PI data.

Absolutely no way they should have your salary, or your address. I'd make a complaint to HR.

Has your line manager responded to your email?

Report
purplecorkheart · 08/12/2022 15:05

Why did he email you? Was it to hold his hands up and say sorry and that he was in the wrong?

Report
Fragrantandfoolish · 08/12/2022 15:08

That’s very odd. Why are marketing people doing your cv? Is something missing here?

Our marketing company would do keyfact sheets to send to clients which includes details about who handles their accounts - background, experience, etc. All quite normal. But not salary and home details!

Why would potential clients want to know where you live and how much you earn? 🤔

He just called to say he didn’t realise it had got that information on there .

He had sent the recruitment agents CV without reading it. It even say I’m a Miss as well !!!

Why would your salary at your previous employer have anything to do with anything? "Our client manager Winterwonderlandisicy lives in the X region and handles clients from A to B areas nearby" doesn't seem unreasonable potentially. But "our client manager Winterwonderlandisicy used to work for Twitter/Starbucks as a code developer/barista where she was on a salary of £189k/minimum wage a year" - what's the purpose of that?

givemushypeasachance · 08/12/2022 15:18

Oh cross post - so actually it's your CV from being recruited, and that's been passed on to new clients? Without them proof-reading to see if the information on there is actually relevant? Seems a bit sloppy.

What's wrong with being a Miss.

I’ve had the hump for less.

The horse has bolted re the info out there.

Did he apologise?

The information should not have been disclosed without your permission, but it is not inherently very interesting and is unlikely to grab the attention of 'the whole office".

I mean, why would they care where you live, surely they can see you're "a miss" and they'd have an idea of salary scales anyway.

Fragrantandfoolish · 08/12/2022 15:22

This is like drawing teeth

so basically he fired through your old cv so it could be used for clients and didn’t realise it has this info on as he didn’t read it.
