Washing up bowl

Ladies and gentlemen, can I ask what may be a controversial question - do you use a washing up bowl or do you wash your dishes in the sink itself?

I personally think washing up bowls are pointless and inexplicable, but am interested in the Mumsnet consensus and willing to be educated on what the reason for using one is.

YABU - Washing up bowls serve some useful purpose
YANBU - Just use the sink that was designed for washing dishes

I could never date anyone one that used one.

So. Many. People in floods of tears right now that they can’t date you, I’m sure 🤣🤣🤣

I feel like I'm harbouring an embarrassing secret in the utility room now. Who knew! 😀

Washing up bowl in both kitchen (1.5 sink) and garage (belfast sink).

Washing up bowls are totally ridiculous. They're always too small to wash stuff in and therefore are POINTLESS. I loathe them with an irrational vengeance.

What on earth are you washing that won't fit in a bowl. Are you a giant?

primeoflife · 09/12/2022 19:00

@Aquarius1234 you are hilarious!

I love my bowl and the planet and would very much like it to be here for my children. But if you don't like it he ho! Don't worry I won't try and date you 😜

The grill pan in my oven which is the width of the oven is too large to fit in a washing up bowl.

I have disposed of my bowl since reading this and it definitely works better for me without one. I regularly clean the sink too now and I didn't before 🤨. It looks a lot better too! I'm going to use the bowl for the dogs feet as easier than the bucket I currently use .

You can get liners/mats for the bottom of butler sinks to stop them getting scratched and means an ugly bowl isn't needed.

My grill pan won't fit in my sink either. I have to scrub one end, then reverse it to do the other.

A wok is too big for a washing up bowl for a start.

Secondly, I like to soak the dishes first for a while before washing them. So the bowl is useless...once 4 plates and a couple of cups are in there, there's no room for saucepans to soak in there too.

Total waste of time they are 😂

primeoflife · 09/12/2022 21:29

A wok isn't too big! We wash ours in there, you dip and turn 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'll let you waste water and kill a polar bear every time you soak stuff 😆
