To park my car here?

I live on a semi busy road and have a drive for one car. Opposite my house there is no double yellow lines and 8/10 times I can park there. Next to our house is a path that leads to the back of our house and a cul de sac.

I parked my car at the back of my house close as possible to my wall/end of my garden. Not blocking a single car, no where near anyone else’s house. Iv parked there twice since getting my first car 3 weeks ago.

a resident came out of her house to shout at me and tell me she’s ringing the police/council because she’s sick of people (there are never cars parked there - I can see from our kitchen window) parking there. She asked me if my car was mine (no I stole it 🙃) and that I’m not allowed to park there again. this was the first time I parked there.

i went to park there a few days later and she had parked her second car there so I couldn’t park. I ended up parking down a non lit dirt road a few mins away. 🙄

Aibu to park there a few times a month?

If public road park there

Move22 · 06/12/2022 07:41

YANBU. She sounds bonkers.

NoSquirrels · 06/12/2022 07:42

You’re not unreasonable to park anywhere it’s legal but your neighbour sounds like they’ll make your life difficult if you do, so depends if you can be arsed with that. You won’t stop her being unreasonable.

OutDamnedSpot · 06/12/2022 07:42

We need a diagram… 😉

YANBU, so long as it’s not a private road? No signs up as you drive into the cul-de-sac?

SBAM · 06/12/2022 07:43

If you have a drive why aren’t you parking on it?

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/12/2022 07:44

Next to our house is a path that leads to the back of our house and a cul de sac.
A path? Have you driven down a footpath or private road or somewhere you shouldn’t drive to access the space at the back of your house? If not and it’s a public road carry on though!

MarianneVos · 06/12/2022 07:57

Are you blocking the footpath? I use a footpath all the time to cut through to another road so would be pissed off if someone from the other road blocked it off by parking badly.

If it's just that it's a space nearer her house, you're legally totally in the right but I'd consider whether it's worth the hassle.

Indoorvoicesbluey · 06/12/2022 08:23

No, the path is a dead end. Our house is right in the corner. It’s hard to explain il draw a pic lol

My husband parks on it. I do when he’s not here on work.

a resident came out of her house to shout at me and tell me she’s ringing the police/council

ask her exactly which law she thinks you are breaking .
and "parking in her on road /public road spot" usn't one , nor is "I don't like looking out at your car"

Roundandnour · 06/12/2022 08:32

It’s a path not a road.
Doesnt matter if it’s a dead end.
Its not designed for vehicles to park on it.

CharityShopChic · 06/12/2022 08:37

We have this near where I live, people think the T shaped bit at the end of our cul de sac is extra-special parking spaces just for them rather than a turning space.

thenewduchessoflapland · 06/12/2022 09:02

My loopy next door neighbour gets offended whenever anyone parks in front of their house on the road.A public road with no yellow lines.

Told us we/our guests can't park there.Has actually come out and starting shouting/being aggressive.

They have a car,it lives in their garage and they hardly use it however if people on the street are having work done and there is contractor vehicles on the street or people have guest cars they will actually get their car out of the garage, park it in front of their house and leave it there until evening and then put the car back in the garage.

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/12/2022 09:05

If it really is a path and not a road then you can’t drive on it…

FleasNavidad · 06/12/2022 09:23

You're parking on a different street (the Cul-de-sac and then nipping down the footpath to your house on a different street?

Indoorvoicesbluey · 06/12/2022 09:31

Absolutely crap drawing.

To park my car here?

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/12/2022 09:34

Um yeah no idea what’s going on with that drawing sorry!

If you’re driving down the road, parking on a public road round the corner and nipping back to your house on foot via a footpath that runs behind your house then obviously it’s fine. If you’re driving on a path, parking on a private road, anything like that, then it’s not ok!

knittingaddict · 06/12/2022 09:49

If you could label that drawing it would help. No idea what is what on there.

Driving a normally static car for 20 yards is a good way to get a flat battery , and of course if they ask you to help with a jump start or a push , you can be conveniently busy ..........

So you’re parking on a public path?

FleasNavidad · 06/12/2022 10:08

You're driving down a public path and parking at the end of it?

WhatTheFlap · 06/12/2022 10:08

She told you you couldn’t park there, but has parked there herself now?

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/12/2022 10:09

So you are parked on a path not a road??? Then no you can’t park there.

girlmom21 · 06/12/2022 10:12

Yeah you can't park on a path
