That she couldn't come to my birthday but she could go abroad?

Invited my friend to my 30th with 3 months notice. I live northern UK she lives South UK. Friends of 10 years. Offered her to stay at mine to save money on hotel which she was pleased about. Generally we'll visit each other about twice a year. 2 days prior to birthday she tells me she feels ill and can't come. Morning of she tells me she feels better but timings are too tight for her to now come (3.5 hour drive)
She then goes abroad (long haul, far away destination) 3 days later. Did she just not want to come? Has talked to me regularly and normally since. Would you say something? I feel a bit hurt.

I can't see how 3 days makes that much of a difference

I got a bug on Thursday, I was the sickest I remember being in many many years. I could not lift my head off the pillow every time I moved i felt faint and light headed, on Friday I felt a bit better but still quite unwell, couldn't eat more than a slice of toast, Saturday I brought my kids to a Christmas Market, still not 100% but a lot better. Today I feel great and ready to take on the world again.

3 days later.

It sounds very plausible to me!

See above thank you

Think they're in it for the long haul.

I can't see how 3 days makes that much of a difference

  1. Because the holiday was booked and paid for, so she'd lose her money, do she decides to go anywat, even though she does still feel a bit rough?
  2. Because her holiday is probably for at least a week, so she knows that even if she still feels a bit ill on the first day, she will be fine for most of the holiday
  3. Because ahe knows she's going on holiday in 3 days, so she decides to rest up to ensure she's well enough to go on holiday, rather than drive 3.5 hours and then potentially slow her own recovery.

YABU and daft
