This is mega outing with my name and condition, If you know me please respect my privacy.
I work for the nhs but also been neglected massively.

after 10 days in the hospital I work in I lost all feeling from my hips down (couldn’t feel when I needed to wee or walk) was told it was my mental health and functional. Blue lighted to a specialist hospital turns out ecuda equida and basically I’m extremely lucky not to be paralysed.

WWYD? Feel so let down and when at a low emotionally and physically time everything was put down to weight and mental health when it was something that could’ve been/is seriously life changing. I don’t want it happen to anyone else

@HaroldandWilly it genuinely seems it’s only us that do work within the nhs actually realise the seriousness of it. I just want closure and no one else to go through this.

Hope you are feeling better OP. I’ve found that if the NHS doesn’t know what’s wrong with you and can’t diagnose any specific illness they will accuse you of having MH issues and say it’s all in your head.

I had severe symptoms for over a year which turned out to be coeliac disease, but I was one of those who doesn’t have the classic symptoms, so-called “silent coeliac”. The NHS repeatedly told me I was making it up, refused further treatment and tried to refer me to a psychiatrist. Eventually one clever doctor figured it out with a blood test. Another time I had swollen breasts with discharge squirting out of the nipples, and when antibiotics didn’t work they told me it was caused by depression.

I don’t know if suing would help, but the NHS need a huge slap on the wrist and told that just because they don’t know what’s wrong with you, that doesn’t mean it’s MH issues.

@Velda I’m so sorry you went through all that. Everything is always put down to MH or weight. Sometimes I’m too embarrassed to even say where I work and I was so proud of our organisation before. I know social care (lack of) is the major problem but I still can’t help but feel second hand embarrassment sometimes.

I’ve had to go private for my parathyroid issues as the consultant said it was caused by my constant raised crp - but wouldn’t find out why my inflammatory markers are high or do anything about it.

Totally agree. Dd has had years of this. Funnily enough coeliac disease has been one of her many subsequent diagnosis.

she had a pulmonary embolism a few months ago and the nurse rolled her eyes at her in a&e when she was describing how bad the chest pain was, that was before they found the clots.

then a few weeks after the PE diagnosis she’s back in a&e with terrible chest pain so knowing she’s high risk now for cardiac issues, heart attack, etc we went back. Told the nurse the medical history and as the nurse is putting on the ecg she asked Dd if Dd had anxiety. No she has fucking blood clots.

If people don't complain then nothing will ever change. My DH cancer got totally missed due to systems in place and human error. He's subsequently died from the cancer which was curable if the correct procedures had been followed and a silly human error !

Our nurse pushed for me to make a complaint and I was hesitant at the time, once I did it it was flagged as an incident and reported differently. I got a 29 page report explaining where it had gone wrong and what they where doing to stop it happening again.

OP hope you get sorted tomorrow ! Can't believe they've potentially missed it again! They need more training.

Thank you for sharing x I know I have had this ruled out by the NHS physio but did you get a numb tummy at all (like a belt wearing feeling cutting off sensations)

I did go to a private physio mid Dec to be told I had simply twicked my back and it would be gone in 7 days - now the 80’s years old have better mobility.

Hope you get recover well from surgery CES sounds horrific, best wishes x

Was just thinking about you, hope you had a scan and they’ve found out what’s wrong with you x

HarriwithanI · 10/01/2023 17:34

@Lmgify osteoporosis of the spine & an impinged nerve on the left side. Unfortunately not a pleasant experience again but don’t want to go into detail to get ripped to shreds again. Thank you so much for thinking of me x
