Been told not to attend A&E by gp receptionist..

Hello,

Following from another thread of mine, regarding painful ovulation (will summarise below)

• Been TTC for almost 3 years

• Had bloods taken by GP (day 21 bloods) and was advised at the time that this would show endometriosis or PCOS issues

• Had a GP appt yesterday to get the ball rolling with fertility help, mentioned that I get very painful ovulation, and she advised that endo / PCOS wouldn't in fact show in bloods, only a physical examination would determine this.

When I'm in / around ovulation, I get EXTREME crippling cramps in one side of my ovaries / lower abdomen, radiating across my pelvis. They're so awful I often feel like I'm going to split in half. When I sit and then stand again, I can barely stand up straight. It's crippling and lasts a LOT longer than the seconds / sometimes hours that others explain and experience during this time of the month. We're talking days. Sometimes 2/3.. and the pain is MUCH worse than my period pain.

I phoned the GP reception today, as I'm having a really hard time with the pain today. They've advised that nobody can see me there until 2nd week of January; and so I must get on with it until then. Fine, but pain killers are literally not touching the pain and I don't know what to do with myself. I'm at work and can't even stand straight. It's like someone's sawing me in half from hip-hip..

So I asked the receptionist if she would recommend I attend A&E for guidance in the meantime.
She almost screamed 'NO' at me. That they're under pressure (which I'm fully aware of and understand completely) but I honestly don't know what to do with myself 😞

So my question is.. would I be unreasonable to attend A&E after work? I just want help and answers. I'm so scared and in so much pain.

Well said @FuckFuckGo.

niugboo · 01/12/2022 20:57

@PinkSparklyPussyCat the op said uncomfortable later in a comment. Not my word.

re Bartholin calling back later would have been fine. If you went to A&E now you would be waiting much longer. It’s quicker to get triaged at GP and sent in that way.

niugboo · 01/12/2022 21:00

@FuckFuckGo i am literally responding to repeated tags!

and I haven’t once told her she was wrong to do something she didn’t do. I’ve said the GP receptionist was right despite multiple people and the OP trying to convince me otherwise.

And who's to say I would have got an appointment later? But obviously you know so much better than anyone on this thread.

BTW the four hour wait was in August of this year. I wait for you to accuse me of lying...

I haven't told you the receptionist was wrong! Honestly why are you so invested in my situation, it makes no sense. You're reading into EVERY minuscule detail and won't go away. It's weird.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat she hasnt said that though. She said pain, monthly, when ovulating. No other symptoms referenced. Currently under the gynae team. With unexplained issues. Pain that started uncomfortable then became severe when people suggested it was absurd to go to A&E.

we can go back and forth on this all evening but it’s surely clear to all I won’t be moved on this? And given that she was seen and treated by the GP he clearly also decided that there was no need at all to go to A&E.

Are you seriously still going on and on and on about this. @niugboo

You’ve had posts deleted because you’ve been hounding the OP, trying to catch her out or prove something to someone, or I don’t even know what you’re trying to do. I’ve never known anything like it. You’re coming across extremely badly. There’s words for people that just keep going on at someone in this way, What on earth is wrong with you?

niugboo · 01/12/2022 21:07

@KaleAtYale that’s not why the comments were deleted.

shallwego · 01/12/2022 21:07

Also I'm not currently under the gynaecologist team.. I was referred wrongly to them after having been on a fertility waiting list for 2 years. When I got there they told me I had been wrongly referred. The GP that took my details had also mixed them with another patient resulting in me being referred inaccurately.

Why were they deleted then! You've been rude, cruel and in appropriate.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat you might not have and if indeed it got worse then sure go.

if you were triaged and discharged that fast you’re lucky.

if you and others want to abuse a service fill your boots. You clearly don’t care.

shallwego · 01/12/2022 21:12

NOBODY has abused a service for goodness sake. I didn't go to A&E!!!

Can you not go to a walk in clinic

shallwego · 01/12/2022 21:15

@niugboo there's now a thread on here about someone asking wether they should go to A&E with tooth pain. I'm surprised you're not trolling that one, too. Or maybe you have?

I did, I'm clearly responsible for the state of the NHS!

niugboo · 01/12/2022 21:18

@PinkSparklyPussyCat they don’t send you back to the GP. They take the hit. And struggle as a result.

shallwego · 01/12/2022 21:18

If someone feels that they are in need of A&E services they shouldn't be denied attending. They will soon triage you and advise if you need to be there or not. This isn't something that's up to ANYONE else.

There seems to be a few more AIBU A&E posts tonight!

I'm sure certain posters will share the benefit of their 'wisdom' with them...

FuckFuckGo · 01/12/2022 22:09

Don’t waste any more time on us @niugboo, we heard it the first, second, third and fortieth time loud and clear. Get yourself down to A&E in your bouncer uniform so you can question people at the door.

mathanxiety · 01/12/2022 23:25

That is actually horrifying.

This probably sounds really dramatic! But I'm honestly heartbroken. I've been waiting for so long for some kind of help and thought I was getting somewhere finally.. only to be told I was in the wrong place all along. 😞

Back to square one!

No, I think it’s entirely reasonable for you to feel heartbroken by this.

I second a previous poster’s advice to contact PALS and ask for your new referral to be expedited. In addition to contacting the practice manager, asking for your new referral to include reference to your already prolonged wait, and for assurances that the GP practice has reviewed their referral procedures to ensure there is no repeat.

Is there any room in your budget to see a private fertility doctor? It might move things along if you have some idea of what help you might need.

shallwego · 02/12/2022 14:40

Thank you for your advice @Onlythings - I will definitely get in touch with PALS now!

I did email the GP surgery once I'd come out of the incorrect appointment at the hospital, and they were extremely apologetic but that was really it. They booked us in for another appointment (with my DH - this was Tuesday) to fill out the fertility referral form, but apparently this can't be sent off until my DH has had his sperm analysis is results back.. and this won't be until mid January.

Just feel completely gutted and so incredibly deflated by the whole ordeal. And this new pain on top of everything else is just really hard to deal with.

Sorry to sound so down and glum. It's just tricky!
