Been told not to attend A&E by gp receptionist..

Hello,

Following from another thread of mine, regarding painful ovulation (will summarise below)

• Been TTC for almost 3 years

• Had bloods taken by GP (day 21 bloods) and was advised at the time that this would show endometriosis or PCOS issues

• Had a GP appt yesterday to get the ball rolling with fertility help, mentioned that I get very painful ovulation, and she advised that endo / PCOS wouldn't in fact show in bloods, only a physical examination would determine this.

When I'm in / around ovulation, I get EXTREME crippling cramps in one side of my ovaries / lower abdomen, radiating across my pelvis. They're so awful I often feel like I'm going to split in half. When I sit and then stand again, I can barely stand up straight. It's crippling and lasts a LOT longer than the seconds / sometimes hours that others explain and experience during this time of the month. We're talking days. Sometimes 2/3.. and the pain is MUCH worse than my period pain.

I phoned the GP reception today, as I'm having a really hard time with the pain today. They've advised that nobody can see me there until 2nd week of January; and so I must get on with it until then. Fine, but pain killers are literally not touching the pain and I don't know what to do with myself. I'm at work and can't even stand straight. It's like someone's sawing me in half from hip-hip..

So I asked the receptionist if she would recommend I attend A&E for guidance in the meantime.
She almost screamed 'NO' at me. That they're under pressure (which I'm fully aware of and understand completely) but I honestly don't know what to do with myself 😞

So my question is.. would I be unreasonable to attend A&E after work? I just want help and answers. I'm so scared and in so much pain.

And what is it exactly that I’ve said that you thinks so awful seeing as you didn’t go and don’t think you were justified in going?

Because literally every criticism I’ve levied applies to the scenario that you WERE justified in going. If you agree you weren’t then it doesn’t apply to you.

It's more the fact you've tried to imply I've been lying, multiple times in the comments you've made.

Like I said before, I don't have any reason to but it's up to you what you wish to believe.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat if you’ve reached excruciating pain with a bartholin cyst that likely means it’s a abscess and often can’t wait for GP / oral antibiotics. I’ve been admitted 3 times for infected cysts. But that’s not comparable.

There are multiple factors that mean it wasn’t appropriate for OP to go, you can’t break them down individually. It’s the bigger picture.

niugboo · 01/12/2022 18:16

Because with each post your symptoms seem to rapidly escalate because for some reason you’re intent on justifying why A&E was the right place rather than just admitting the receptionist and others are right.

Out of interest, how could you tell from the OPs posts that it wasn't ovarian torsion or n obstructed intestine?

Other than that she was posting on MN and I've seen women on here posting in labour and when they have sepsis so I don't think posting on MN is a fair indicator of not needing to be in hospital.

I was sent on my way with oral antibiotics but as I’ve never had one before I had no idea what it was just that it bloody hurt. I will say I was in and
out of the hospital in just over 4 hours which was better than expected.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/12/2022 18:39

Unless the receptionist is a qualified GP themself, go to A&E.

niugboo · 01/12/2022 18:42

@Heavyraindropsarefallingonmyhead because its been occurring monthly since a previous abdominal surgery. It wasn’t a completely new sudden pain.

Also with both those conditions it would be accompanied by other symptoms, nausea etc.

I've not said anything about my symptoms escalating. I daren't even discuss how I feel since you are adamant I can't be in that much pain.

Please kindly leave this thread now? You're not helping.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat you acted fast that’s positive. But as said you were probably early enough for the GP rather than using up a specialised resource.

niugboo · 01/12/2022 18:46

@Heavyraindropsarefallingonmyhead it’s also quite possible to post on mumsnet when you have sepsis. And if the OP had described relevant symptoms that would be different. But she didn’t. Similarly with labour unless they’re at the pushing stage. Not a relevant comparison.

FirewomanSam · 01/12/2022 18:48

Give it a rest @niugboo! Talk about flogging a dead horse.

But ovarian torsion can be episodic happening repeatedly over several months and nausea only occurs in 70% of patients

Fine okay

I have posted on mumsnet when also suffering from bouts of trigeminal neuralgia which is medically well known to be one of the more painful conditions you can suffer from

Posting on mumsnet is not an indicator of someone's pain levels

niugboo · 01/12/2022 18:55

@Heavyraindropsarefallingonmyhead as I’ve said several times it wasn’t just the posting on mumsnet. That was one of many things that made it clear A&E wasn’t a reasonable next step.

And the fact that the OPs symptoms mimic the presentation of some cases of ovarian torsion which is worthy of an A & E visit?

niugboo · 01/12/2022 19:15

@Heavyraindropsarefallingonmyhead i don’t agree that what she’s described here do fit that description.

Severe pain that comes and goes over a period of weeks?

shallwego · 01/12/2022 19:26

Are you medically trained @niugboo

Also.. why are you still lurking. It screams the fact you've got nothing better to do!

OP posts:
shallwego · 01/12/2022 19:32

If you were able to FEEL the pain then fair enough, you're right to comment and advise but you cant..

You're merely speculating given what I've said in my posts, and are for some reason trying to catch me out?! What for!

OP posts:
niugboo · 01/12/2022 19:35

I’m not speculating on what you said. You literally wrote it.

and hardly lurking.

niugboo · 01/12/2022 19:37

@PinkSparklyPussyCat she hasnt said that though. She said pain, monthly, when ovulating. No other symptoms referenced. Currently under the gynae team. With unexplained issues. Pain that started uncomfortable then became severe when people suggested it was absurd to go to A&E.

we can go back and forth on this all evening but it’s surely clear to all I won’t be moved on this? And given that she was seen and treated by the GP he clearly also decided that there was no need at all to go to A&E.

Cloud9isnowclosed · 01/12/2022 19:42

She described it as extreme and lasting hours in her first post, not sure that is nearer to "uncomfortable" rather than "severe"

Yes it's clear that you've literally got nothing better to do than try to stand a ground nobody's remotely bothered by, to prove a point for yourself.

It's honestly ridiculous and boarder line creepy how invested in my life you seem to be.

And by the time I could get an appointment with a GP I would have been passed that stage. If it happens again, unless I can see a GP that day I will go back to A&E. I tried to call the GP dead in 8am and there was already a recorded message saying all appointments were gone, call back after 2pm for an appointment tomorrow. By 2pm I was home and started on my antibiotics.

FuckFuckGo · 01/12/2022 20:04

@niugboo are you feeling alright? I ask this genuinely because you appear to be having some sort of meltdown over this. It is actually quite concerning how invested you are in telling OP over and over and over that she was wrong to do something she didn’t actually do, and how her pain wasn’t worthy of the thing she didn’t do. If you really aren’t a troll then I’m not sure what’s going on with you, but maybe you should take it off this thread because your response is massively disproportionate to what has (or rather hasn’t in this case) happened and it’s not fair to take it out on other people. Especially when they’re already suffering.
