To dislike my husbands beard

wowserstrousers · 28/11/2022 22:04

My husband has decided to grow a beard lord knows why.He looks like a bloody tramp cant even look his side.It started because he couldn't be arsed getting a shave and it has escalated from there.
It makes him look loads older not in a good way i cant bear to kiss him its that bad.Worse still he knows how I feel about it.

I adore my DH's giant beard and would be devastated if he shaved it off!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/11/2022 13:37

I last shaved my beard off over 25 years ago. I met up with DW that evening and she said 'O

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/11/2022 13:39

I last shaved my beard off over 25 years ago. I met up with DW that evening and she said 'Oh my God. You're not the man I married. Grow it back immediately.
Been happy to oblige ever since.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/11/2022 13:41

And I don't have a 'weak' chin or anything else to hide btw 🤣.

housemaus · 29/11/2022 13:42

YANBU to not like beards. He's NBU to want to be happy with how his body looks.

You'll either get used to it, he'll decide he can compromise and not have a beard all the time, or you'll have to... I dunno, break up?

I like not shaving my underarms. Don't know why - legs smooth as anything, but underarms I prefer not to. If DH decided he didn't like it his choice would be to get used to it or leave me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well you would say that- we’ll never know. 😆

My wife has decided to stop wearing make up lord knows why. She looks like a bloody tramp cant even look her side. It started because she couldn't be arsed putting it on anymore and it has escalated from there.
It makes her look loads older not in a good way i cant bear to kiss her its that bad.Worse still she knows how I feel about it.

Are you always this controlling???

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2022 13:46

@Granddadwentdownthepit i think that poster was trying to make a point, by creating an imaginary scenario as a comparison. Except it doesn’t work as it’s completely different.

FloydPepper · 29/11/2022 13:57

As soon as I saw the make up analogy I knew there’d be a load of posts saying “it’s not the same”.

it’s close though. A person can choose to
look how they like but usually the mumsnet collective view is that you can object to a man’s choices (beard, hair, clothes) but not a woman’s (makeup, hair, clothes)

I know, that's why I went for a stock response from here.

Blueuggboots · 29/11/2022 14:04

Beards are vile. I HATE them.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2022 14:05

It’s really not.

loislovesstewie · 29/11/2022 14:34

I like beards; I would rather kiss a man with a beard than one with stubble, or who hadn't shaved about 5 minutes ago. Properly cared for of course, washed and trimmed.

Beard oil and brush 🤢

EnvyEnvy

I;m so glad I am single Grin

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2022 15:16

Yes ‘sorry I’m late I was oiling and brushing my beard’ 🤮

namechangetheworld · 29/11/2022 15:27

Bleurgh. I'm partial to a bit of stubble on mem but those full on shovel beards that are trendy at the moment (often coupled with a bald head) make me shudder in horror. They look unhygienic as fuck.

i don't mind stubble but the beard and bald head Envy and yes shudder is correct.

OoooohMatron · 29/11/2022 15:44

You'll get so many posters telling you you're shallow, it's his body his choice etc but personally I think why the hell would you purposefully do something that makes you unattractive to your partner? My DH hates really long hair so no I wouldn't let it grow to my waist. I don't like beards, my DH knows this so wouldn't grow one. YANBU OP and if it was my husband I wouldn't hesitate to tell him I find it gross.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 29/11/2022 15:45

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2022 22:27

I think i see what you are trying to do there but it's not the same thing.

It is the same thing.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 29/11/2022 15:47

If my dp told me to shave or to wear my hair a certain way I would tell him to fuck off.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/11/2022 15:51

I shall cry myself to sleep tonight knowing just how many MNetters regard my bald head and beard to be repulsive. 🤣.

Kerebus · 29/11/2022 16:03

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2022 12:33

I can see how they might cover up a weak jawline and double chins, that might be why a lot of men have them.

Indeed, mine hides a multitude of chins...

If I may offer a bearded man's perspective. It's his body so his choice but if it's turning you off so much its putting pressure on your relationship then he really should go back to being clean shaven. Which gives you a couple of options; either be honest and tell him it's a hideous monstrosity that you can't abide or, don't say much yourself but get mutual friends to mention how much older he looks with it. Oh and start calling him "Uncle Albert".

Good luck!

HamBone · 29/11/2022 16:25

My DH has a round face and he feels that his beard gives his jawline definition.

I think he looks years younger when he’s clean shaven, but it’s his face. 🤷

SantaOnFanta · 29/11/2022 16:35

I hate beards, but when my husband grows one I tell him off for shaving it!

crackerscandycanes · 29/11/2022 17:41

When I was little my dad grew a moustache which my mum hated. He refused to shave it off so she bought a short blonde wig (she had long dark hair) and wore it in protest until he shaved the moustache off.

Brilliant Grin
