To go for a wee-wee?

DH has just mocked me mercilessly for this. We are at home. I said I’m going for a wee-wee. He says I always say this even in company. I beg to differ as sometimes I say tinkle or Jack Dash or Jimmy Riddle or off for a piss.

I am an announcer though. I’ve caught myself lately sneezing and then saying ‘sneeze’ instead of ah choo or excuse me. Also yawn.

It’s not just me though, right? Normal to excuse yourself in this fashion. Yeah ok, wee-wee might be the nadir but it’s a perfectly normal thing to say?

Fizbosshoes · 28/11/2022 23:27

I sometimes say I'm going for a wee. Never wee wee.
If I needed anything other than a wee, I'd just say I'm going to the loo.

Davros · 28/11/2022 23:28

I say widdle and I announce it

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 28/11/2022 23:30

It’s quite usual in our house to ask, “Is anyone in the Bogamite?”

My sister, a rival water company employee, will go to the loo & proclaim,”That’ll give Thames Water something to chew on.”

Suffrajitsu · 28/11/2022 23:33

I would only announce I was off for a wee/going to the loo if it was relevant, e.g. because I wanted to pause the programme we were watching on TV. OP, do you announce every single time you leave the room, irrespective of the reason? For instance, if you were cooking something that needed to be checked every five or ten minutes, would you tell everyone that you were going to check the meal every time you went out to do so? When you've finished hoovering a room, do you tell them you're going to put the hoover away, or that you're going to hoover another one?

justcallmebozo · 28/11/2022 23:38

Never thought about this before. DH and i both announce, but only in the evening, never during the day. As others have said, it just seems rude to walk out of the room and say nothing.

JestersTear · 28/11/2022 23:41

We announce but then we only have one loo, so it's helpful to know it's engaged.
We also have a code for a poo 😂

JestersTear · 28/11/2022 23:42

@CentrifugalBumblePuppy "”That’ll give Thames Water something to chew on.”"

😂😂😂😂

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/11/2022 23:49

On a related note, I was mildly surprised when I was looking at the symptoms for something on the NHS website and it talked about 'peeing more than usual' or something. I would have thought they'd use 'wee' at the very least, if not urinating. Something just seemed odd about the use of 'pee'

Obviously, somebody high up in the NHS is a big Bob Holness fan.

May I suggest a forthright "Time to make toilet!" just like Mr Denton in the League of Gentlemen?!

”That’ll give Thames Water something to chew on.”

Officially, they refer to it as 'user-generated content' Grin

CustardySergeant · 28/11/2022 23:52

"MIL says wee wee and poo poo with a coy smile every time. Just off for a wee wee or had to poo poo then describes the amount and consistency"

Good grief. What on earth is the matter with her? Has no one ever told her that no one wants to hear that?

Booklover3 · 28/11/2022 23:56

I just say “going toilet” or “going for a wee”

FrangipaniBlue · 29/11/2022 06:45

*Exactly. Plus if DH is disappearing I want to know where as there might be something that needs doing on the way depending on where he's going, if he's going to do something that takes a while I might need to do something first while he minds the baby etc.

I would find it so odd to live with someone who didn't say what they were up to and just disappeared!*

I would find it odd living with someone who needed to know my every movement when I'm not even leaving the house!!

In case you needed something doing? How controlling and suffocating.

Zanatdy · 29/11/2022 06:52

I’d say I’m just popping to the loo, I might say in front of family I’m going for a wee (I tell the dog that!!🤣). But in company I’d say loo, and wee-wee isn’t something I’ve said since my kids were potty training so definitely not that!!

FrangipaniBlue · 29/11/2022 06:58

Wallstick · 28/11/2022 21:37

Fucking 'sneeze' 🤣 do you also say 'phone' when it rings? I'm trying to get my 4yo to stop bellowing directly into my ear when he hears the phone, now I've read this I'm not sure I dare hope!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

BoxOfCats · 29/11/2022 07:18

DP often announces it's "time for a poo" Grin

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2022 07:26

Me too. If DH gets up and leaves the room I’m not going to interrogate him as to where he’s going. He doesn’t feel the need to tell me, that would be weird.
Also we haven’t brought the DC up to make announcements either.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/11/2022 07:41

'I am an announcer though'

I initially thought you meant an announcer at a railway station!

Now that would have been weird!

(even worse if you worked at the BBC)

PetraBP · 29/11/2022 08:17

I need to wee wee!

To go for a wee-wee?
Sweetandsaltycaroline · 29/11/2022 08:38

Me and my DH work together. We usually tell each other when we're going to the loo at work. Mainly I suppose so we know they will be back in 5 min rather than say 20 or 30 min if going out to collect something, see a customer, or buy lunch etc

Mentalpiece · 29/11/2022 08:40

We're announcer's in this house.
Me..Oof I need a wee.
Him. Just off to ablutions.
If I'm desperate and he's in my way, I shove past him muttering wee wee, wee wee.
Definitely a door, phone, ambulance family here 😂

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2022 08:44

All you annoying announcers should get a tannoy system set up in your houses and be done with it. You can be further annoying by doing the ‘bing bong’ at the start.

WimpoleHat · 29/11/2022 08:49

It would seem so rude to just disappear.

The phrase “please excuse me for a minute” is your friend here. Particularly in a formal/professional context! “Wee wee” is grim on anyone over the age of about 6. “Just going to the loo” is also fine less formally, without requiring a full rundown on what you’re going to do there…..

plinkplinkfizzer · 29/11/2022 08:50

I am sorry to say I will say I'm going for a wee , like say if we are parking at the house I will say I'm desperate for a wee . I don't always announce I'm going for a wee . On rare occasions I will announce i'm going for a poo .😳

Never thought about this before. DH and i both announce, but only in the evening, never during the day. As others have said, it just seems rude to walk out of the room and say nothing.

"Excuse me" or "be right back" would suffice.

HeatwaveToNightshade · 29/11/2022 09:33

I haven't heard wee wee in years! I would find that funny rather than annoying. When I was growing up, it was widdle, piddle or jimmy riddle and I do still say all some of these from time to time. I do still remember being puzzled at first when my brother announced that he was 'off for a Ben Cartright'. Charming. I wouldn't be surprised if he still says it but he likes to pretend he has more class these days!

HeatwaveToNightshade · 29/11/2022 09:38

Just remembered a song we used to sing on the bus in the brownies:

Cringe alert ...

Stop the bus I want a wee wee,
Stop the bus I want a wee wee,
Stop the bus I want a wee wee,
A wee wee cup of tea.

Those were the days when song lyrics were complex and full of hidden meaning.
