I’ve noticed a big difference, DH and I earn ok but our money isn’t lasting, is anybody else feeling like this?

OP posts:
holierthanthou73 · 28/11/2022 17:18

Have you seen the other threads on the subject 🙄

FelizNavicrab · 28/11/2022 17:18

I think (almost) everyone has been impacted in some way but I don't think everyone is struggling - though lots are.

Joyfuljolly · 28/11/2022 17:19

No lots of people are not struggling and I’m surprised you’d think that.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/11/2022 17:22

Rishi and Jeremy are alright.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/11/2022 17:24

Not everyone is struggling, but a lot of people are. We are relatively cushioned in that, whilst prices have gone up, the extra has only eaten into what we can save, not what we have available for normal living expenses, though we do eat out/go out less than we might otherwise it’s not a huge impact on our day to day life.

But many many people are struggling and it’s a worry.

BeautifulDragon · 28/11/2022 17:24

I think some people are struggling and some just have less to spend on luxuries/ put into savings etc.

ZenNudist · 28/11/2022 17:31

I don't think I could be described as struggling. Neither could all the people packing out the trafford centre and Christmas markets, or buying the £900k houses in my area, or going on yet another Christmas treat for the kids (it's only November but some are posting their santa train rides, ice hotels, lapland, light shows, theatre trips) plus the hoards of 20 and 30 somethings in the overpriced ma-hoo-sive food market standing room only on a Saturday night and £15 for a burger and chips, £10 a glass of wine. We sit in pret for meetings sometimes and the food is all gone by 2pm £10 for a coffee and a sarnie.

Yes money isn't going as far but hen you're paying £15 for a burger and your overseas holiday now costs £7k. You're considering cutting down from 5 to 3 streaming services and you'll buy a new car in 2024 rather than next year. Playing the world's smallest violin here. (I don't mean you OP, just that there's loads of money still sloshing about).

Nchangeagain · 28/11/2022 17:32

Yes, YABU.

RudsyFarmer · 28/11/2022 17:33

We’re not struggling but once all the tax hikes kick in we’re certainly going to be a lot worse off each month.

SnarkyBag · 28/11/2022 17:34

Everyone’s money won’t be going as far as it normally would but some will be far from struggling.

Ive noticed a difference and cut our cloth accordingly but it would be insulting to many to claim to be struggling

MelchiorsMistress · 28/11/2022 17:34

There are loads of people who aren’t struggling. I’d say the majority aren’t struggling, even if many have had to cut back a bit.

DenholmElliot11 · 28/11/2022 17:36

I think lockdown meant that a lot of people were able to plough more money into savings and many many people are well protected from the cost of living crisis as a result of this.

Hibernationsetting · 28/11/2022 17:36

There’s a whole section dedicated to the cost of living, but no. It’s just you. 🙄

Soothsayer1 · 28/11/2022 17:36

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/11/2022 17:22

Rishi and Jeremy are alright.

Rishi-richer-than-the-king from Richmond, but he must be so worried about us all, wringing his soft little hands, sweating into his cashmere jumper

BabyFour2023 · 28/11/2022 17:36

We aren’t struggling and appreciate we are lucky to be in a situation where we haven’t felt any impact by the price hikes and shouldn’t do. I don’t think it’s anywhere close to everyone struggling.

lljkk · 28/11/2022 17:37

Not struggling. Grateful about it.
Dare say adult DC aren't struggling either.

ThreeblackCats · 28/11/2022 17:40

We (Dh and I) are still very comfortable. I’m still enjoying early retirement, we still turn our heating on when we want for as long as we want, I still shop with gay abandon so YABVVU to be so insensitive as to ask.

You do realise some people are going to bed hungry, but not everybody is struggling. I really don’t know what you wanted from this thread op.

Overthebow · 28/11/2022 17:40

Not everyone is struggling no, I don't think even the majority of people are struggling. I would think most people are affected in some way, but there's a difference between being affected and struggling.

For example, our household is affected as we have now have less disposable income each month, but we definitely aren't struggling as in reality all that means is that we have less money to save each month, or we cut back on small things like the number of takeaways each month. This is the same for our friends circle too, no one is actively struggling, just cutting back on little things.

Bonjovispyjamas · 28/11/2022 17:42

I don't know anyone who's struggling, or if they are, they're keeping it to themselves.

Zippedydoo123 · 28/11/2022 17:43

There are retired couples who are doing ok but are now helping their grown up children who are struggling to make ends meet.

PinkSyCo · 28/11/2022 17:44

There’s a thread going where the OP is wondering where she can buy Gucci sneakers on finance. Take that as you will.

luxxlisbon · 28/11/2022 17:45

Well everyone is impacted by inflation regardless of income but that doesn’t mean everyone is struggling.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 28/11/2022 17:46

We aren't struggling but we are being a bit more careful with our money. My parents definitely aren't struggling, they are mortgage free with excellent pensions and on a fixed tariff from before the price hikes for their gas and electricity.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 28/11/2022 17:46

Yes. I used to be able to save £400 a month from our joint account for holidays and car repairs etc. Now I'm lucky if £50 is left over.

Hoppinggreen · 28/11/2022 17:47

A lot of people are but not everybody
