To ask you to talk to me about Dysons

I have wanted a Dyson for a long time. The one I wanted was V15 animal but it’s £££

There are some cyber Monday deals out there but not on the V15

Both the omni glide and the V10 have over £100 off but omni glide nearly £100 cheaper than V10.

is it worth it? I hoover or sweep daily as we have a dog that brings in lots of mess from the garden. He doesn’t shed so dog hair not an issue, we don’t have carpet all hard floors. It’s a lot to spend on a hoover…

I love my dyson, it’s an upright ball hoover. I had the animal in my smaller flat. But I wanted a plug in dyson for my carpets. Worth the investment in my opinion.

swimmingincustard · 28/11/2022 06:39

Maybe not what you want to hear but after many years of Dyson I don't think they are worth the money IMO.

I switched to shark and they are much better for suction.

I still have my V10 for crumbs etc in our hard floor kitchen and it's so temperamental... gives up with the slightest blockage and we don't even have pets.

If I was spending that sort of money again I think I'd look at a robot vacuum especially in a hard floor house.

FelizNavicrab · 28/11/2022 06:42

We have a v10 and a Roomba.

The Roomba is far more useful and I'd buy a Shark handheld next time.

The V10 has been needy and underwhelming tbh.

medicatedgift · 28/11/2022 06:43

I'd get a Henry.

Youvegotafriendinme · 28/11/2022 06:43

I also hate mine and keep willing it to die but DH keeps it alive! I had a Miele before and it was absolutely great. When I finally kill the dyson the dyson dies I’ll be getting a Miele again.

Justisme · 28/11/2022 06:45

We spent £££ on Dyson animal. It was ok

got a shark animal this year and wow. We love it. Won’t ever go back to Dyson.

Endlesssummer2022 · 28/11/2022 06:46

Stayed at a friends for a few days recently and used their Dyson….spend your money elsewhere. It was a pretty poor vacuum cleaner. The company appear to have spent more on marketing than engineering.

HappydaysArehere · 28/11/2022 06:53

The only Dyson I ever bought was not a good buy. The emptying of the bag was a hassle and resulted in dirtying the filter. Then it developed some fault which gave rise to sparks coming out of it. I took it to the tip and bought a Sebo which I have loved for years.

Lonelycrab · 28/11/2022 06:53

Get a Miele instead. Actually works as a hoover, and the company isn’t owned by a weapons grade throbber. Double win.

Squeezedsquash · 28/11/2022 06:54

Another person who changes from Dyson to Shark and wouldn’t go back.

Goodadvice1980 · 28/11/2022 06:57

The cordless handheld ones are rubbish 🙄

Aprilx · 28/11/2022 06:57

I had a Dyson animal for a while, I thought suction was fine but I spent a lot of time unclogging it. I also couldn’t get my fairly modest size house fully vacuumed on one charge. I swapped to a Shark about two years ago and the battery is better plus there are two of them charging at once. It also has ok suction but it is heavy and I also find it gets clogged up.

If I were buying now, I would try a third option, I think both are over rated.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 28/11/2022 06:59

Hmmmm maybe I stick to the good old broom. V unsure. I really want something cordless.

GimmeSleep · 28/11/2022 07:01

Where are you located I have a Cordless Dyson you can have for £50 😂 It's been replaced by 2 x Sharks 😌

FuckabethFuckor · 28/11/2022 07:04

I don’t think the handheld cordless ones are up to much. And that goes for Shark and Vax as much as Dyson.

I have one of the corded upright Dysons and it’s been really good. I’ve found you do have to keep on top of maintenance; cleaning the filters and clearing out the chamber from time to time, because otherwise it clumps up with really fine dust and this affects the suction power.

I have mine ‘serviced’ about once every 18 months or so, which seems to keep it ticking over.

Mine’s about eight or nine years old now, so it’s doing ok. My mother has had two Sharks and one Gtech in that time.

GrubzUp · 28/11/2022 07:05

The first Dyson I had was amazing (in comparison to the 1980s vacuum I had been using until then.). The replacement I bought when it died ten years later is shit. Heavy, temperamental and plasticky. And the spare parts are so expensive. I can't wait for it to die so I can replace it with something else. It will not be another Dyson.

Surrey. That is so kind

I'd go with a shark too. Dysons are a bit highly strung for my liking. You'll spend your life trying to work out what up with it this time.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 28/11/2022 07:08

Another vote for Miele - much better quality and value.

Both Dysons I’ve had have been awful, and agree you really have to keep on top of cleaning out the filters - but life’s too short to be doing that when you could just get a Miele!

FuckabethFuckor · 28/11/2022 07:11

Mum’s Gtech isn’t bad. She uses it as a kind of daily top-up whizz-round (she has cats). She has a ‘proper’ vacuum for weekly cleaning but views the cordless as a kind of motorised broom. It was £140 or something so a lot cheaper than a Dyson or Shark. Maybe something like that would work for you?

The later V Dysons are better but they discount the V10 for a reason; it’s old tech and wasn’t terribly good even when it was new.

BankseyVest · 28/11/2022 07:18

I've had 3 upright dysons and 2 handheld, and tbh I've finally thrown the towel in and bought another make. They do lose suction (regardless of what they adverts say), cleaning filters is a pain in the arse, I've found with all of mine, they deteriorate after about 12 months. Hair getting stuck in the rollers was the bain of my life (me and dd have long hair). I've also got a dog, so bought the animal version. The uprights are heavy, and the handheld doesn't hold enough charge (and my house won't that big)

I just don't think they are worth the money. I've just bought a cheap Hoover from curry's and taken out the insurance which means over the next 3 years, if it breaks for whatever reason I can exchange it for a new one. Only cost me £120 all in, and so far it's better than they dyson

Sorry op I know it's now what you wanted to hear

Winemygoodenemy · 28/11/2022 07:24

My Dysons cordless battery is going. I didn’t rate it after moving away from Meile. Ended up buying a cordless shark. Best buy every. Hoovered using my Dyson to them compare my newly bought shark. Dyson bin filled halfway wood floors and carpet looked fine. Then hoovered using shark. Shark bin full immediately after dyson. Embarrassed as I thought my carpets were so clean. It’s only me in a flat with a cat. Shark was such a better vacuum

Freysimo · 28/11/2022 07:27

I love my cordless Dyson and the customer after sales service is excellent. I am pretty heavy handed with vacuum cleaners and my Dysons have always survived.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 28/11/2022 07:28

I have had Dysons for years, I have now changed to shark and would never go back to a dyson.

asleeponthetable · 28/11/2022 07:47

I borrowed a dyson recently when my shark was being fixed and the shark was completely full when I hoovered the day I got it back (a week later) despite hoovering every day with the dyson. The person who fixed it for me was in love and done their whole house before handing it back! It’s 5 years old and the brush does need cleaned weekly from the cat hair but it’s the best hoover I’ve ever had. I have mostly hard floors and used to mostly sweep like you but you’ll notice the difference compared to the shark!
