To think this is rude?

I took my mum and her husband out for lunch yesterday and paid.

My mum is a difficult woman and her husband is not someone I like very much but as my mum seems to have been trying harder later, I thought I would make the effort.

We were waiting for the food to come and my mum was whinging about it taking ages (it wasn't, it was just being cooked from fresh). Eventually it came and as they had both eaten theirs, announced they were going outside for a cigarette and would wait for me out there. I protested but it fell on deaf ears. I was halfway through my meal and had to sit and eat alone. Is this fucking rude? They don't seem to think so. It's for this reason that I keep them at arms length.

Sort of thing mine would do. Yes very rude.

AngelinaFibres · 27/11/2022 18:30

They are smokers. Foul habit. Foul behaviour

fedupofthiscoldffs · 27/11/2022 21:54

It's very rude. It's bad enough if they did it one at a time but both together is shocking

canfor · 27/11/2022 21:57

Make it your last trip to a restaurant with them - they are rude and they could have waited rather than leave you sitting alone.

OrigamiOwls · 27/11/2022 21:59

It is rather rude, I'd avoid dining with them again.

milawops · 27/11/2022 22:00

They were incredibly rude. I'm a smoker and I wouldn't dream of doing this. You don't leave the table while people are still eating to go for a smoke.

Keyansier · 27/11/2022 17:17

I would say YABU.

They are cigarette smokers and you expected them to wait until you had finished your entire meal because it had taken so long to cook and arrived after their meals had already been cooked, eaten and removed from the table?

Dickhead comment 🙄

DrManhattan · 27/11/2022 22:12

Horrible behaviour. Can't imagine being so addicted to something that I can't wait 5 / 10 mins. Anyways I would go no contact. Save yourself the drama xx take care

DrManhattan · 27/11/2022 22:13

@Keyansier hope this is sarcasm

Dickhead comment 🙄

Why? Just because you don't agree with it? Hmm

cookiesbeforepookies · 27/11/2022 22:49

@Keyansier can’t believe you had your World Cup / Christmas thread deleted because people didn’t agree with you…

Lilabelle22 · 27/11/2022 22:53

They are rude and socially inept by the sounds of things

The thing is no one is agreeing with it. Maybe that should tell you something.

lamaze1 · 27/11/2022 23:09

@Keyansier the op didn't say her food came out after the others. Don't make things up.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/11/2022 23:10

YANBU
They were very rude and ungrateful
They didn't even bother to come back in after their cigarettes!
Don't invite them out again

abblie · 27/11/2022 23:14

I would be fuming if my mother done that though at times I can see her wee brain thinking over time and I would say to her mum go have a cig I'm just finishing this last bit and 9/10 she pays bill on way out lol 🤣

WTF, are you on about? So they smoke, does that mean they don't need any manners?

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/11/2022 23:17

If you can't go NC, at least you shouldn't have to pay. Never take them for a meal again.

I'm not asking anyone to agree with me. But I don't reply to comments I disagree with and refer to them as "dickhead comments" like the other poster did to me.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/11/2022 00:02

Thing is *@Keyansier , you misread the OP, and ignored subsequent clarification.

The food was all brought out together.

I'm a smoker, no way would I leave the table if someone was till eating.

And I certainly would never leave one person at the table on their own.

Sorry you had that happen OP, tough situation after a kind gesture on your part.

It was a blunt response, but I can see their point because you are trying to defend the indefensible, manners-wise.

N....because its a dickhead comment .....like yours 🙄

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 07:41

i hope you told them they were rude?

LikeAStar1994 · 28/11/2022 14:07

This is why I dine alone.

Tessasanderson · 28/11/2022 14:10

Why not call your mum and ask her to return the favour. When all the food comes, pull out a tupperware box, pack it in and go home. When she calls you later just say you though it was now acceptable to leave the table whenever you feel like it.
