To think that Sunday is the most depressing day?

I've never been a fan of Sundays, not even in childhood. Now that I'm an adult, I just can't see past all the chores that need doing and the blues of having work the next day.
I love Fridays and Saturdays, but can't seem to reframe the negative association I have with Sundays.

Just me? Grin

My Sundays are far happier now the kids are older. I can get up when I want (I'm an early bird naturally but I go by my clock, nobody else's) and basically do what I want to do. I do like to have something planned and I don't let the worry of Monday stop me enjoying the day

Breakingpoint1961 · 27/11/2022 16:29

Still detest Sundays too, even as a child..

CaveMum · 27/11/2022 16:30

Sundays are not fun, too many associations with going back to work/school.

I hate Tuesday’s too, though I think it’s a hangover from school days - Tuesday was always PE day!

imaginationhasfailedme · 27/11/2022 16:31

When my Sunday blues started to become Saturday afternoon blues, I realised it was definitely time to change jobs. It has a huge impact so hopefully your Blues will disappear! At that point, I was amazed that my OH actually enjoyed his job and didn't hate Sundays or Mondays - I didn't realise that feeling existed so good luck in your new one x

thelobsterquadrille · 27/11/2022 16:33

I love Sundays, but I don't have DC and I love my job which makes all the difference, I think.

Soozikinzii · 27/11/2022 16:36

I agree . I'm not a fan of Sundays. I love Friday and Saturday even Thursday is better ! It's just boring!

TruestRepairman · 27/11/2022 16:37

I absolutely love Sundays, but as PPs said, liking your job makes a difference. I quite like mine, and also, I don't work Mon-Fri, so while I sometimes have to work at the weekend, I also often have some weekdays off.

I'm also pretty lazy, so chores don't generally enter into it. My favourite thing is a rainy Sunday morning, a lie-in, then a shower and clean PJs, pain au chocolat, cafetiere of good coffee, armchair and a good series to watch.

It’s only boring if you don’t do anything!

I hated Sundays when I lived alone. They seem to belong to couples and families.

Nowadays our Sundays have a familiar but comfortable rhythm. Up whenever, fiancé and I both do our respective allocated house jobs, go to the gym. Often a friend down the road pops in for a coffee or we drop in on my fiancé’s parents who live in the same town as us. Going there for a roast this evening which we also do every few weeks.

I do not like having big plans on Sundays. They’re reserved for local people and local places only.

You've just described my perfect Sunday @TruestRepairman 🙂

Yes I suppose it is, if you're a Vicar.

They must wake up and think...
'Oh Bugger, I've got to go to work today. SHIT I haven't done a sermon,
CHRIST what can I do (not a retorical question)?
I know I'll do the alcohol and brimstome one - they'll have forgotten that, not that they listen anyway.
The Bastards.'

I used to HATE Sundays growing up - loved school but hated Sunday as a day. Depressed me (it still depresses my mum, as do bank holidays for their "Sunday-Ness")
Now I make them as nice as possible. Nice breakfast and easy start to the day. Maybe a walk or a tidy up of the house etc, and then a delicious roast dinner which I love cooking with the strictly results show and pudding

Chickenkeev · 27/11/2022 17:34

The Glenroe Fear....

RaRaRaspoutine · 27/11/2022 17:38

I like Sundays but I like my job and have no kids so Sundays mean much the same as Saturdays to me, plus a roast dinner

devildeepbluesea · 27/11/2022 17:40

I’m not a fan, but I’ve made today a good one. Walk with the dog then took DD to rugby, which is a lovely welcoming place. Then we had lunch out and took the dog for a run on the beach. Home now watching The Holiday with a bolognese in the slow cooker and Baileys in hand.

Changedma · 27/11/2022 17:43

I’ve never really understood the Sunday chore thing. Especially in the context of schools… DC need uniform ready and school bags packed 5 days a week so Sunday is no different.

I do have some uniform drying now but it’s not needed for tomorrow but a few days in advance and then by mid-week I’ll need to wash uniform again to see me out the end of the week, so it’s no different.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/11/2022 17:43

The long, dark teatime of the soul...

Mouldyfoodhelp · 27/11/2022 17:45

Normally hate Sundays, but woke up today and it just felt like a Sunday and I had the feeling of wanting to watch the type of films ITV, Channel 4 etc tend to put on of a weekend for the nostalgia of being a kid. I'm yet to have watched a film yet

bangersandmash2 · 27/11/2022 17:57

Sundays are 50% of the weekend- can't you do some of the things you enjoy on Saturday on a Sunday?
I also don't understand things like washing / sorting uniform as an 'active' task - washing gets done in between other stuff?

Theydoyaknow · 27/11/2022 18:07

HATE Sundays but LOVE Monday's ...go figure.

Jeds55 · 27/11/2022 18:07

notnowB · 27/11/2022 15:40

But Sunday is nice. Plus all the shops are shut, so you can't get stuck in a queue for groceries even if you wanted to.

Argh, I hate the quiet Sunday feeling though. If ever I were to move abroad, I'd need to live somewhere with Sunday/holiday bustle and not the feeling that everything has ground to a halt because it's Sunday. It literally couldn't feel like Sunday or I'd feel depressed.

I know, I know, Freud would have had a field day Grin

Totally agree with you OP

I've even had Sunday blues on Mat leave such is the strength of them. Now I'm due back to work in a few weeks dredreading

ImAvingOops · 27/11/2022 18:07

We were all ruined by having grown up watching antiques roadshow and songs of praise and the realisation that having kicked the fan down the road, we really now had to do our homework! Sometimes those school day feelings last forever!

Im mostly okay with Sundays - don't hate them but they feel kind of nothingy.

I don’t usually get the Sunday fear, but tomorrow I have what is probably the shittest meeting of the whole year to get through, and I’ve been carrying a sense of dread about it all weekend.
