Swearing at someone is probably one of the least shocking of Emerence’s crimes given she nearly burnt her parents house down.

There is definitely a ditch in Shocks. The place is flooding left, right and centre due to dodgy drains, and Emerence blocks one of them up with an old scarecrow (as you do). One of the staff falls into some kind of sink hole. I think it presages yet another shift of premises.

Is it the same one where a Dawbarn twin trips over a pig? Or is that just the random Armada cover showing one of them en route to the ditch with superfluous pig?

No those drains were in the Armishire books, that’s why they had to leave. They seem to have a lot of bad luck with drains!

One of the most crazy things that even as a child I questioned was Biddy O'Ryan being found by some of the pupils as if she was a stray puppy and then being adopted not by a family or even an individual character, but by the guides. Surely even then there must have been some sort of system that would have stopped this?
The Chalet School and the Lintons is my favourite, Joyce Linton was fab until she gave in and decided to adore Joey like the rest of them.
