Why is absolutely everyone I know having baby boys!

I'm at that age where absolutely everyone I know is having kids. A large number are now on their 2nd kid. So me and my husband have no kids (happily childfree have 4 nephews no nieces) but we are so fascinated by the fact that absolutely nobody we know is having girls.
Literally in the last few years we are talking at least 30 boys and only 2 girls (one of which my friend told me she gender swayed for a girl and it took her like 10 months to get pregnant as she was actively avoiding ovulation).
It's became a joke that me and my husband say to eachother as soon as we hear of another pregnancy announcement "another boy then 😂".
Anyway I've been reading about the returning soldier effect where after World wars there's always far more boys born. There's a recent study regarding this.
Wonder if the pandemic has made men produce more y sperm 🤣.
Or is it perhaps because I'm at an age where women are actively tracking ovulation and with the popularity of ovulation sticks they are all having sex right at ovulation so more likely to produce boys. 🤔
Wonder what others make of this and are you all seeing the same.
Also seen there's a US nurse talking about it on tiktok.

I think they should do a study to see if men produce more y sperm after having covid.

It's probably just where you are from and coincidence. I mean slightly more boys are born than girls naturally. Personally I know lots of people having girls and a fair amount of boys. My son is in a class with 15 girls and 6 boys my other son slightly more girls than boys. The school overall has more girls than boys. Just 20 minutes away in the car my friend has a girl and is totally out numbered by boy and there are more boys than girls in that primary school.

Coconutcream123 · 26/11/2022 22:19

My friends and I are also at the life stage of most people having babies. Out of 10 babies born in past 18 months, there's only been 2 girls.

Msgrieves · 26/11/2022 22:21

Doesn't seem like a good omen.

OttilieKnackered · 26/11/2022 22:22

I had my 20 week scan on Wednesday and the whooping cough/jab nurse said mine was the first baby boy she’d heard about all day (this was mid afternoon).

I think it’s just coincidence/anecdotal.

RebeccaCloud9 · 26/11/2022 22:23

I've just been reading about how the boy/girl timing theory has been debunked.

Comedycook · 26/11/2022 22:24

Yes I know what you mean op...there always seems to b

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/11/2022 22:25

It’s just coincidence OP.

If there was a significant national tilt to boys I think we’d have heard about it.

justanotherlaura · 26/11/2022 22:25

I'm one of 4 friends to have babies this year, we've had 2 boys and 2 girls between us

Comedycook · 26/11/2022 22:26

Posted too soon.

More boys than girls. In my dds primary class there were 21 boys and 9 girls.

Problemorno · 26/11/2022 22:26

I had DS in June and, out of 7 babies on the post natal ward, he was the only boy.

WhiteFire · 26/11/2022 22:27

Seems to be lots of baby girls at work.

PinkPlantCase · 26/11/2022 22:28

I don’t think the when you have sex in your cycle is an actual method of having a boy or girl.

I don’t know if there is an overall trend at the moment or any other factors but I’m fairly sure that timing of sex and ovulation isn’t one of them.

Namechanger965 · 26/11/2022 22:28

It’s probably just the people you know. Out of the 10 babies of our close family and friends born in the last 5 years there’s been only 1 boy (mine!), he’s very much outnumbered by girls around us.

In the wider family/people we know of it’s about even, lots of people with one of each and a few with 2 girls, only 1 couple with 2 boys.

Eek3under3 · 26/11/2022 22:31

I had a baby in August. Of 8 friends that had babies from June-Aug, one had a girl!

TheGoogleMum · 26/11/2022 22:31

I'm currently pregnant with a boy, but the Facebook due date group I'm in has a good mix of boys and girls

Folks · 26/11/2022 22:33

What does ovulation have to do with it?

I’m pretty sure the sperm dictates the sex?

CryCeratops · 26/11/2022 22:36

It’s probably coincidence.

Fleur405 · 26/11/2022 22:38

It’s coincidence. I have a 9 month old and go to various baby groups - it’s around a 50:50 mix of girls and boys in all of them. I’m sure it’s possible to see data on the number of girls and boys whose births were registered in 2020 and 2021. I’m willing to bet it’s 50:50

MargaretThursday · 26/11/2022 22:53

I think there's an aspect of coincidence and confirmation bias.

When dd1 was born they commented she was the only girl born that week at the hospital. Her infant school was 2:1 boy:girl. So I did wonder.
However when she got to juniors it evened out.
The juniors mostly came from 2 feeder infants.
So then I was talking to someone from the other infants and they commented that they'd been 2:1 the other way, and someone else said that there had been a rumour going round that one of the infants was better for girls, and the other was better for boys. So people had chosen accordingly. (low birth year so genuinely a choice)

Male sperm are stronger so if there are X and Y sperm present the Y will be successful. Female sperm live longer so if you wait until a few days after ovulation, there are likely to only be X sperms present.

Neurodivergent women tend to have more boys. I don’t think that’s scientifically proven - just an observation.

Tangled123 · 26/11/2022 22:53

I know of 9 local babies born since January last year, 5 have been girls and 4 have been boys. I know two women who are currently pregnant too. If both of those are boys, it’s a pretty even split, but going in favour of girls otherwise.

Needsomeadvice33 · 26/11/2022 23:00

Hmm maybe it's weirdly just my circle then. It seems to strange thats its massively skewed towards boys. I know there's always more boys born than girls but surely not this much! It will be interesting to see the stats of this over the next few years.
At every gender reveal I always say boy and I always correct lol
I agree with the person upthread though! Hope it's not a bad omen!

It’s funny how these things always seem to go in runs. In one year at my DC’s primary school there are 60 kids split into 40 boys and 20 girls. Conversely in my NCT group of the 8 of us I was the only one to have a boy. Felt like everyone was having girls that summer! I very rarely met another mum with a boy. That’s played through to DS’s class- he was the only boy with a summer birthday.

That makes no sense whatsoever to me. If you wait a few days after then there will be only X present??? Wouldn't it make more sense to do it a few days before hand so there would only be X present later on?

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 27/11/2022 00:36

Me and my friends were having this conversation recently. Three boys in a row in our group in the last year. At work there is one woman who had a girl, the rest have been boys. In my family there's been no baby girls in years. It could just be coincidence of course and confirmation bias, but it's certainly interesting these different theories!
