Just got a smart meter and have come to the realisation that we are spending £10 a day on gas and electric - that’s without the heating on!

Christ remember about 15 years ago i had a token meter and put in £5 a week!

anyone else know exactly what they’re spending now?

We are 2 adults, 4 bed detached house.

We work from home, 2 adults and one child. We have the heating on for 45 mins in morning then 3-8 in a 3 bed house = between £10-£12 per day now……

Dinnerdate1 · 26/11/2022 21:26

3 bedroom detached house and spending around £12 a day. Really annoying but what can you do.

FTMFML · 26/11/2022 21:30

2 adults and one toddler.
We have it set not to drop below 16 degrees and have a hours boost to 20 morning and evening.
£14 a day.....

Tiggy321 · 26/11/2022 21:39

I don't live in Uk and am astounded at how little you all pay in UK even with price rises! My monthly bill (estimated) is nearly €600 a month and they want to put it up to nearly €1000!!! We have a large house, but heating is only on a couple of hours and set to 18 degrees. It is CRAZY here and ultimately we will not be able to use our gas heating at all very soon.

BorgQueen · 26/11/2022 21:41

Yet we are constantly told that our energy prices are the highest in Europe because ‘brexit’ . 🙄
Where are you Tiggy?

We're £10 a day too, although our only gas use is heating and hot water.

A load of washing including the dryer is nearly £2, and I do at least one maybe two a day.

Heating is set to 20 degrees during the day and 18 at night and I have a bath each night.

GrouchyKiwi · 26/11/2022 21:45

We're on a prepayment meter as the old owners were and the hourly rates are currently the cheapest option with our provider.

Even so we're using just under £5 per day for electric and more than £10 for gas.

There are 2 adults & 3 kids in a detached 5-bed bungalow, with some dodgy double-glazing that we're getting replaced in January (earliest they could do it). Still working out the most efficient way to heat the house. Sad

I home ed so we're home a lot, and DH works from home 2 days a week, though that's changing soon.

We've just replaced about 30 50W bulbs with low energy ones, so that will help with electricity.

sanityisamyth · 26/11/2022 21:46

1 adult, 1 child in 2 bed first floor flat. £20 a week on electricity. No has. Refusing to put the heating on.

Beezknees · 26/11/2022 21:48

Smart meter averages about £4 a day, it's a 2 bedroom flat with 2 of us living here and the heating has been on for about 3 hours a day. I'm paying £170pm direct debit.

I am in Belgium

HunterHearstHelmsley · 26/11/2022 21:48

We are four adults, two children. Averaging around £6 a day for gas & electric. It's bloody hard!

During the day, we are all staying downstairs. We will use the fire for up to an hour if needed. If it is particularly cold, the heating will go on in the evening for an hour to male sure the children are warm, heating then goes on for an hour in the morning.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 26/11/2022 21:51

No, our smart meter won't connect to the gas, but we were spending £10 a day last year so I don't really want to know tbh.

Againstmachine · 26/11/2022 21:53

*We're £10 a day too, although our only gas use is heating and hot water.

Absolutely good on this I'm glad it's costing you so much, if you choose to do 2 washes a day pay for it, your lifestyle is unsustainable.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 26/11/2022 21:54

2 bed house. 2 adults. 2 teens. We're averging £9 a day. Prepayment. Heating is on in 30min bursts maybe 4 times a day. Showers and baths have been drastically cut down. We've got an air fryer and rarely use the oven. It's shit and unsustainable..

wejammin · 26/11/2022 21:55

5 bed house, 2 adults and 3 children, DH WFH all week and I WFH half the week.
We do a load of washing a day and it's been raining all week so the dryer has been on as well. Showers every day, plus I had a long very hot bath on Thursday to ease period pains. Dishwasher run every day. Heating set to click on at 16 degrees.
The smart meter currently reads £76.29 for the week, the week runs Sunday-Sunday so that's just over £10 per day.
We're paying £262 per month but we're in £500 credit at the moment so I'm hoping we don't need to increase it.

reelcat · 26/11/2022 21:55

Up to now we are spending around £5 a day combined gas and electric. 3 bed detached - 2 adults and 2 children. Washer on daily, dishwasher most days, dryer 2-3 times a week and heating 1-2 hours per day.

Blanketpolicy · 26/11/2022 21:57

3 bed detached, 3 adults, Scotland. Have used £129.83 so far this month so averaging around £5 a day. Last few days have been £6-£7 a day, must be getting colder.

JackTorrance · 26/11/2022 22:00

I am in Belgium

I was going to guess The Netherlands, I heard prices were horrific there, I'm sorry Belgium has been affected as well, I know how cold it gets over winter Sad

Shouldbesleeping1 · 26/11/2022 22:00

We spent £13 today because we've got a Aga which is a bloody expensive nightmare.

9nine · 26/11/2022 22:01

2 adults, 6 children, 4 bed semi detached house, we’re averaging about £10-£12 a day currently for electric and gas combined.

Do at least 2 loads of washing a day, some of it is tumbled dried, dishwasher on at least once a day and heating only been on for a hour or two a day if needed set at 18 degrees

rhowton · 26/11/2022 22:03

We are spending a little over £10 a day. Some days is £12/13 some days it's £8/9.

I've worked out the biggest cost is my tumble dryer. It's is worth it in my opinion and luckily we are over £1000 in credit.
