not an aibu as such but my anxiety is going crazy right now.
there has been a body found in wierd circumstances a few streets down from me.
not sure how much is true as there is only limited amounts in local papers but a neighbour said someone was shot, a hazardous sunstance poured on them and dumped out of a car. i know immediate neighbours have been told to stay in. and not much else has been said. everyone else seems to either be curtain twitching and just trying ti get what info they can (understandable) but no one else i know is experiencing the same level of panic, i dont usually feel like this but this is just so close to home. not sure what im asking really, how to just feel like im not panicking over the top?

spoken by someone who either doesn’t live in belfast or can’t move past the 80s

Tell that to Noah Donohoe’s mum. PSNI have a lot of explaining to do.

My first thought was novichok.

I must admit, my mind went there too

heidihiii · 26/11/2022 20:15

Your town did sits right next to the m6 motorway, chances are it was just a convienant place to dump a body from far away

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/11/2022 20:16

Likelihood is it’s drugs related, the victim has got white powder on or around them, and the police need to be very sure it’s coke not anthrax. Or some other precaution.

It’s like the fact most bomb scares aren’t bombs but they have to treat them that way just to be safe. I wouldn’t worry too much until they say otherwise as it’s a waste of energy.

You should live in Belfast

IKR or London. 😗

IKR or London. 😗

They don't though. If it's not a "normal" occurrence it makes sense the OP will be a bit anxious about it

Something really awful happened in my neighbourhood a few years back. Small children were murdered. It shook me to my core for weeks on end. Its different when it happens so close to home.

TunaSpaghettiSub · 26/11/2022 20:48

That's it I think it's not that I'm worried about myself as such I'm just shaken

I get it OP.

A man was stabbed and killed in a few streets along from me. The attacker made a run for it and came past the house before he was caught.

Its a quiet area and came as a shock especially as the police asked us to remain indoors and knocked door to door.

It bothered me a week or so, I suddenly felt very unsafe but then the rational side slowly took over. Their incident was a fight between people that knew each other not a random stabber on the loose. This will be similar.

Look after yourself 💐

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 26/11/2022 21:18

Horrible thing to happen and would shake me, had a gang murder outside our local shop years ago (young teen, barely past a boy :( ), really saddening and yes I’d be panicked too if the murderer wasn’t yet caught and the crime was such an unusual one!!

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 26/11/2022 21:25

ofwarren · 26/11/2022 19:33

Do we actually know it's a murder?
It could be that the person had an accident or took their own life.
The police aren't saying that any suspect is at large so I'd say you are quite safe.
I'd feel the same as you though probably.

Difficult to dump your own body out of a moving vehicle!

OP I get it though, it's unsettling. What do you usually do to feel better when your anxiety is bad? Have a bath with a good book maybe? Or a mug of hot choc in front of some soothing telly?

Oh gosh, I didn't realise the body had been dumped. I never read that in the news.
How awful.

pimlicoanna · 26/11/2022 21:30

Lucky you don't live in London.

Terracottage · 26/11/2022 21:32

Somebody got murdered near where I live, we stopped walking that way home completely. Can't really explain why, as I know they did catch the killer and he's in prison and it was ages ago. There's a kids park nearby there that nobody uses.

PriamFarrl · 26/11/2022 21:37

Something similar happened to my neighbour. The police knocked on the door to ask if we heard anything and the first thing they said was not to worry as it was a targeted attack.

WombatStewForTea · 26/11/2022 22:25

I live just down the road from you. He's been identified now OP. He lived there so could be a complete non event and he could have just dropped dead outside his house tho the rumour mill is saying drugs related.

bellabasset · 26/11/2022 22:28

We had an awful incident happen in the adjoining semi detached house and it was upsetting especially as we had to wait to go back in when until scenes of crime officers had finished their initial investigation. Neighbours had kindly taken in our cat and two dogs. We were home when the body was removed.

Passmethecrisps · 26/11/2022 22:35

It’s a wee bit of a shame that being used to murders or unexplained death seems to be worn as a bit of a badge of honour in a handful of posters. Many of us don’t live in places where people die at the hands of others. Someone’s sudden death is unsettling if, for no other reason than the reminder of our own mortality.

it doesn’t sound as if anyone is in any immediate risk but I think I would also be feeling unsettled and uncomfortable

Lemonella · 26/11/2022 23:15

KindergartenKop · 26/11/2022 20:07

My first thought was novichok.

Same. Surprised this isn’t being mentioned more.

Morelizthanamanda · 26/11/2022 23:25

I get it OP, there was a horrible torture / murder near me last year and the police told local residents to keep doors and windows locked until the murderer was caught. It really unsettled me for a while afterwards and made me question my personal safety. They caught him really quickly fortunately.

bellabasset · 27/11/2022 12:56

The police have confirmed the victim was killed with a gunshot and acid attack. Very unsettling if its near you

ofwarren · 27/11/2022 12:58

It's just been announced it was a gun shot and acid attack.

PeachyPears · 27/11/2022 13:08

Do you currently take anything for your anxiety? If so I’d be contacting the GP and asking for a medication review

This isn’t normal
