Posting for traffic to be truthful! I have a job that will require me to commute to BBC Television Studio. There no longer is a car park and I can't even see a private one from aerial maps.I prefer to drive as severely anxious on public transport.

What do people do?! Surely the TV presenters don't take public transport to these places!?!

ApolloandDaphne · 25/11/2022 22:03

Also I think the presenters do take public transport. Why wouldn't they?

itsnotdeep · 25/11/2022 22:04

Sophie Raworth runs to work.

ThisIsTrifficult · 25/11/2022 22:05

White city can be reached on the central line.
You have the option of parking further out and perhaps a hotel at maybe hanger lane? Then you can tube in a few stops.
West Ruislip is the end of the central. Decent car park costs £10 for the day or a few stops further in is south Ruislip.
Not sure of your circumstances but find a hotel further out, then tube or cab in.

Unicorn2022 · 25/11/2022 22:13

You can park in Westfield for £8.50 a day. To be honest I've been commuting to different areas in London for over 30 years and I feel much safer on public transport than I ever would driving around west London. It's so much easier to get from A to B on the tube or bus and there's no issue with paying for parking, congestion charge, ULEZ etc. I've travelled on public transport at all hours of the day and night and never had any issues. My young children also travel around London by themselves.

Heronwatcher · 25/11/2022 22:13

Yes I agree with the idea of parking a bit further away and then getting either a tube or a cab/ bus if tubes are a problem.
Westfield is also very close to an overground train line (Shepherd’s Bush) so you could park somewhere close on that line and catch the train.
I think it goes to Watford (the overground train) and there is parking there- try citipark.

piglet81 · 25/11/2022 22:16

Would it be worth trying some kind of therapy to address the anxiety with a view to being able to use public transport? Probably cheaper in the long run than paying for parking etc…

crownandfillers · 25/11/2022 22:19

You can park on the road but pay but then you need to move your car every 4 hours or so. I'm not sure about Westfield though but Ken and Chelsea is right at border so I often park my car at the border as I have a permit, cross over to Westfield on foot and there's always pay by phone available. You can park your car at Westfield all day though but I wouldn't bother trying to find an off street parking there in Hammersmith and Fulham as it would be a nightmare in traffic. And no, Westfield isn't in the congestion zone.

luxxlisbon · 25/11/2022 22:20

@RaspberryBlu not being able to park in a staff car park is alien to me!

You can’t seriously expect every workplace in central London to have a staff car park?

Slowdayinfleetstreetisit · 25/11/2022 22:20

If it’s White City am sure there will be a car park at Westfield which is just next door

I saw Richard Osman come out of White City tube station a while back so I guess some of them do.

NicLondon1 · 25/11/2022 22:31

If you live 3 hours away, I would drive the night before and find a nearby hotel that has parking, from which you could walk.
And I would first call reception and ask them for parking suggestions.

Wakeywake · 25/11/2022 22:33

Staff parking in London is at a premium. Of course BBC presenters use public transport or taxis if they want to, there's nothing special about them.

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 25/11/2022 22:35

Parking at White City is expensive . Most TV presenters are either chauffeured/taxi or cycle (Jeremy vine) . When agreeing your contract you need to either increase your hourly rate or put in travel costs to cover costs.

Noodlehen · 25/11/2022 22:36

Have a look on just park. My DH sometimes drives into the city for courses and always uses the app. We also use it when we go to the airport it’s a lot cheaper.

CherrySocks · 25/11/2022 22:40

Are you staying overnight in London or are you commuting in 3 hours in morning and then 3 hours back home again in evening, for more than one day a week?

TedMullins · 25/11/2022 22:44

I used to work for the BBC and sometimes on that site. You’re correct there’s no parking. Presenters would be in private cabs or Ubers, some do get the tube though or cycle/run. Nowhere in central London has staff car parks because people don’t tend to drive in central London. It takes 5 times as long as public transport because of the congestion. I agree with others’ suggestions to drive to outer London and get the tube in. It really will be incredibly expensive, slow and complicated to try and go all the way there in the car.

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 25/11/2022 22:44

People take taxi or public transport. I don't know anyone who drives to work

eurochick · 25/11/2022 22:45

A parking app might find you something nearby.

The reality is that pretty much everyone in London uses public transport or cycles/runs - judges, politicians, tv presenters, etc.

EmmaAgain22 · 25/11/2022 22:47

How about this site, any good?

www.justpark.com/uk/parking/white-city/

I certainly see TV presenters etc on the Tube and the north London based cab firm I use do regular trips to White City.

MotherOfPuffling · 25/11/2022 22:47

Just a note, the site may not be in the ULEZ zone, but if you need to go through that zone to get there then you will have to pay.

EggsHamChips · 25/11/2022 22:49

Graham Norton and Jeremy Vine cycle.

StellaGibson2022 · 25/11/2022 22:51

Or blue badge parking which is usually around as well

Goldbar · 25/11/2022 22:54

I think you need to rethink your mindset if you're doing this commute regularly. It is impossible to stress sufficiently how miserable driving into London in morning rush hour traffic is. It literally takes forever. It can take hours to do a journey of just a few miles. If you have to be in work for a certain time, it's likely to push your anxiety levels sky-high.

Public transport in and into London is also fairly miserable (mainly because it's generally extremely overcrowded) but at least has the merit of usually getting you there in a predictable time.
