To ask if you still test for Covid?

This has been on my mind now that the general cough/cold season is upon us.

What do you do if you are having Covid-type symptoms eg cough and temp?

Do you own/pay for LF tests? How often and sparingly do you use them?

It just feels a bit strange this year with no clear guidance...

Absolutely. And I self isolate while testing positive (only happened once so far, about a month ago).

I really don't understand why some people are so annoyed by others testing. What does it matter to you?

As far as I can tell plenty of my friends are still testing, because every so often I see someone post a positive test and say how rough they feel. I would assume that like most, they're only testing when they actually feel ill.

Honestly, getting annoyed about others testing smacks of Covid denial/anti-vax idiocy, and just comes across as a bit thick. You can't make Covid go away by not testing for it, it's part of life now. It just happens that we have home tests available for it, in a way that we've never had for, say, flu.

Absolutely this! Well said

If you’ve not tested Overthebow

How can you be so sure it is only a cold? 🤷‍♀️

Not routinely but I did test my ds twice this week as he was unusually ill. First test was negative (day 2 of being unwell) but we tested agin on day 4 and it was positive.

I'm pretty sure I have it now but got a negative test on day 2. Going to test again on day 4. I've had 3 vaccines and couldn't tell you the last time I had a cold. I've never had flu and don't generally pick anything up but I felt horrific yesterday. The worst I have ever felt. I certainly wouldn't want to be inadvertently passing it along.

Guidance is different according to whether you have a + test or not. If you do you're advised to stay at home for 5 days even if feeling well. If you don't test then they say you can go out as soon as you feel well/no longer have a temp. That could easily be before 5 days yet you could still be spreading it at its most infectious stage.

i wouldn’t know whether it’s a cold or something else, but the point is if I only have mild symptoms I don’t really need to know as I can still go about my normal life and not having covid on my mind at all times I wouldn’t automatically think of covid. I don’t have time to analyse every symptom I may have when I’m only mildly I’ll and think of all the different things it could be.

Well my daughter is seriously ill with Long Covid so I don’t have the privilege to never think about covid anymore! 🙁

Yes, did one yesterday before visiting a CEV household. And yes if I'm particularly sniffly. I want to know if I have it so I can isolate and so it's in my medical history in case I have any issues.
