Why should I have to pay money to keep people safe?

I don't suppose this will go down well so have NC and donned my hard hat.

Walking through the city centre today I was approached by a teenager chugging for an organisation and asking for donations to stop knife crime. He had an attitude when i politely declined.

As I walked away I couldn't help but think to myself - why should the general public who are largely struggling with the COL increase, have to pay to lower our chances of either us or our loved ones being stabbed.

Why is it our responsibility to manage and mitigate the effects of other people's crap parenting and in alot of cases, the young person just being a little shit.

AIBU? Would you donate?

Thinking that the kids get into these lifestyles because they’re just a “little shit” or the product of ‘shit’ parenting is the epitome of privilege.

It is virtually impossible to escape what you are born into.

Have you read my posts? Privilege?

I grew up in those environments. I'm coming from a place of personal experience. I can't talk for everybody but the people I knew who carried knives were, by their very nature, little shits, and that's me being very generous.

If it was virtually impossible to escape what you were born into I wouldn't be where I am today.

Personal responsibility.

I can't bare all of the fluffy "behaviour is communication" excuse finding crap. Oh they've had a hard life, well haven't we all.

These aren't poor little children, they're far beyond the age of criminal responsibility and are accountable for their own actions.

This is why charity is a stupid way of doing things. Because dyslexic kittens would get all the cash and live in palaces while lumpen arsey teenagers or stinky alcoholic old men would be on the streets. You can give money to who you want OP or withhold it as you wish as well of course but people shouldn't have to beg to get what we should all be providing anyway.

So if someone gets cancer as a result of bad lifestyle choices, smoking, alcohol etc - you won't want your money going to those causes then?

So what's the point in the charity if there's virtually no escape?

The two are not remotely comparable.

It's a personal choice which Charity to support, if any.

You don't want to support this charity and prefer to support others.

That's ok.

It's also ok for others to have different views to you.

They're also committing fraud if these comments are anything to go by, and there are many more.

Why should I have to pay money to keep people safe?
