Mice within the flat. Anyone about?

Someone please help!

I’ve posted COUNTLESS times about the mice situation as I’ve had mice since the summer. Pest control have come round numerous times to mouse proof the kitchen (there was a massive hole underneath one of the kickboards). They’ve laid down poison and traps yet nothing. I also have snap traps underneath the kickboards where we’ve seen mouse droppings as well as one of those electronic mouse traps.

Tonight I was asleep in my bedroom with both DCs in their cots and I heard a mouse in the room right next to DDs cot. Now I know this sounds dramatic but I was so scared I thought I was going to have a panic attack. My younger sister stayed over last night so I woke her up to ask if she can help me try to catch it. We couldn’t see it at all. We then saw a mouse run in the kitchen!

Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong. I have all these traps about but I haven’t even caught one mouse. Does anyone have any tips? I really can’t live like this😭

I put tubs of neat bleach under all of my kitchen cupboards along with poison and sticky traps. My house smelt like a swimming pool for ages but the mice never came back after the first night. Apparently they hate the smell. And so do I!

Thank you again for all the helpful comments! I live on a council estate but I private rent so the Landlord is only responsible for my flat. However he hasn’t been helpful at all and it’s only until I sent over a picture of a massive whole in the wall did the estate agent get on his case to do something about it.

The first pest control from the council put green powder on the floors underneath the kickboards so we could see if the mice had walked around. I’ve just checked now and was able to see some footsteps. When the estate agents sent round the pest control to close up the hole, the man filled it up with wire wool and expanding foam.

I’ve just had a look now and I can see that the fucking mouse has got their way through the expanding foam and that’s how it’s getting back in! So a hole that I thought was closed, isn’t! That hole is sooo far underneath the cupboard that we can’t reach it. The pest control guy literally had his whole body underneath it using his tools to mend it. I’ll be sending an email to the estate agents today and calling them tomorrow. In the meanwhile we’ve got more traps as close to the hole as possible and will hope for the best.

I’ve tried the Big Cheese traps and have had no luck with it. I’ll be picking up the new traps from Screwfix tomorrow and will buy Nutella to see how I get on!

Don't quote me but NDN is renowned for her garden parties in the summer and food is always left out. When the parties stop for the winter anything that was using her garden moved into the neighbouring properties including ours. Careful not to go too mad with the traps and bait. I caught one mouse who went headfirst into the trap. Couldn't find the other one. Put a different bait trap down and Mickey's cousin had paid us a visit too. 😮still not sure if the extra bait we went atttacted the bigger thing. pest control told us that rats can chew through wire but mice can't so that's probably how they got through the foam. I'd got someone to block off every hole we could find too and the socket adjoining to next doors wall that was behind the freezer had been literally chewed through too.
Apparently peppermint soaked in cotton Wall balls and left there deters both but farming friend said they need replenishing every so often as the smell starts to fade. I'd have a cat in an instant but DD is allergic. Also some cats really aren't interested it's luck of the drawer. One friend didn't know they had rats until they woke up one morning to their moggie having faithfully left them on the doorstep. Another who lives quite rural has a cat who won't even flinch if a field mouse gets in.
Have you tried the plug in things? You have my entire sympathies by the way I've a genuine phobia of both.

Oh God sorry I mean buy a cat, not a bloody mouse!

My mum suggested I get a cat as soon as I first had mouse however I wasn’t sure because of the kids. I have a 7 month old and a 18 month old. I know people have pets with young kids but I wasn’t sure how the kids would be around the cat and vice versa. I also don’t have a garden or anything so was unsure if it was fair to keep the cat as a house cat. So many thoughts and questions but I believe I’ll have to get one!

If you know anyone with a cat ask for some of its used litter. The smell can deter them. Must refresh every few days. I used this for a few weeks whilst waiting for my new cat.

Years ago, before I was with DH, I had mice. They got so bold, they would just stroll across the living room and sit there 🤮 🤮 In the end, I bought poison as I’d tried all the humane ways (blocking holes etc) Trouble is, if you see one mouse, there’s probably about 20 others lurking around as they breed like mad. Shagging their sisters, mum, dad etc. So disgusting when you think about it.

Don't buy a cat, we don't have mice in our house until our cat takes them in alive and lets them go. 🤬
